Is peer adversity in childhood and adolescence linked to interpersonal functioning in adulthood? A meta-analytic review.

This meta-analysis synthesizes research on longitudinal associations between child and adolescent peer adversity and various domains of adult interpersonal functioning. Meta-analyses were conducted on 240 effect sizes from 39 studies published between 1998 and 2024, unadjusted and adjusted for gender, socioeconomic status, and childhood family adversity. Participants (Ntotal = 51,139, proportion of girls = 54.3%, average duration to follow-up = 11.6 years) come from 28 samples that were primarily based in Europe or North America. Peer adversity was linked to adult interpersonal functioning in

Vaccines, Bias, and the Perils of Non-peer-reviewed Studies: Fueling Misinformation and Vaccine Hesitancy.

Unvetted scientific claims about vaccines can spread rapidly and undermine decades of progress in immunization and public trust. A recent non-peer-reviewed analysis, promoted at political hearings, in the documentary "An Inconvenient Study," and on social media, has been used to suggest that vaccinated children experience higher rates of chronic illness than unvaccinated peers. Despite standard regression models, critical flaws - uncontrolled confounding, exposure misclassification, unequal follow-up, and outcome multiplicity, invalidate causal inference. An independent group of international

A prospective audit of thoracic reirradiation practice and peer-review in a high-volume academic center.

BACKGROUND: Reirradiation is an increasingly common challenge with limited prospective evidence to guide practice, which varies internationally. This paper presents the patterns of practice in thoracic reirradiation within a high-volume academic center. METHODS: Thoracic reirradiation cases, discussed at the thoracic radiotherapy quality assurance (QA) meeting, were prospectively collected over 12 months between April 2024 and March 2025. Data collected included patient demographics, primary tumor site, details of previous and current planned radiotherapy, the extent and type of overlap and a

Short-lived effects of a formulary on anti-infective prescribing--the need for continuing peer review?

Because of the introduction of indicative drug budgets in the UK and their likely association with prescribing from a drug formulary, we have studied the effect of the introduction without continued reinforcement of a voluntary practice formulary on antimicrobial prescribing in a group practice. Detailed prescribing feedback for two matched periods before and after the launch of the Northern Ireland Faculty of the Royal College of General Practitioners practice formulary was compared. The parameters chosen were adherence to the formulary, generic prescribing and costs. A slight increase in pre

Peer-education strategies for enhancing sexual health services among female sex workers: a scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Female sex workers (FSWs) remain highly vulnerable to HIV, other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and broader sexual and reproductive health challenges. Peer-led interventions are widely recommended, yet their specific contributions and implementation gaps are poorly synthesised. This scoping review mapped peer-education strategies used globally to promote sexual health among FSWs, with emphasis on intervention components, outcomes, and evidence gaps, including the role of peers. METHODS: This scoping review followed the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) manual and Arksey and

Online peer support for people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS): a narrative synthesis systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) significantly impacts the lives of people with the diagnosis and their families. A supportive social environment is important for people with ALS to adopt effective coping strategies and health behaviours, and reduce depressive symptoms. Peer support can provide a supportive social environment and can happen in-person and online. Advantages of online peer support are that people can engage from their own home, at their own time and pace, and that it offers a variety of different platforms and modes of communication. OBJECTIVES: To (1) explore th

Current Status and Future Wish List of Peer Review: A National Questionnaire of U.S. Radiologists.

OBJECTIVE. Most peer review programs focus on error detection, numeric scoring, and radiologist-specific error rates. The effectiveness of this method on learning and systematic improvement is uncertain at best. Radiologists have been pushing for a transition from an individually punitive peer review system to a peer-learning model. This national questionnaire of U.S. radiologists aims to assess the current status of peer review and opportunities for improvement. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A 21-question multiple-choice questionnaire was developed and face validity assessed by the ARRS Performance

Development of a standardized peer review and oversight process in cases of suspected child physical abuse.

Peer review of medical opinions provided in cases of suspected child physical abuse is generally considered to be best practice for pediatricians engaged in this field. However, there are no published standardized guidelines on how pediatricians should undertake physical abuse peer review including case selection and process. Due to the high-stakes nature in the field of child abuse pediatrics, rigorous quality assurance practices and oversight mechanisms are essential to safeguard children, families, health care providers, and intersecting systems. The Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect progra
