Crisis and acute mental health care for people who have been given a diagnosis of a 'personality disorder': a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: People who have been given a diagnosis of a 'personality disorder' need access to good quality mental healthcare when in crisis, but the evidence underpinning crisis services for this group is limited. We synthesised quantitative studies reporting outcomes for people with a 'personality disorder' diagnosis using crisis and acute mental health services. METHODS: We searched OVID Medline, PsycInfo, PsycExtra, Web of Science, HMIC, CINAHL Plus, Clinical Trials and Cochrane CENTRAL for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies that reported at least one clinical or

Community-Based Services and Depression from Person-Environment Fit Perspective: Focusing on Functional Impairments and Living Alone.

Guided by the Person-Environment Fit perspective, we investigated the extent to which personal and environmental factors influence depression among community-dwelling adults. The data came from the special section about community-based service utilization in the 2012 Health and Retirement Study (N=1,710). Although community-based service was not significantly associated with depression after controlling for covariates, respondents with functional limitations and living alone were less likely to be depressed when using community-based services. This study demonstrates the different associations

Integrating telemedicine and community support to enhance healthcare access for people with disabilities: a SANRA-aligned narrative review.

People with disabilities face multiple barriers to healthcare access globally, especially in low-resource and underserved settings. Telemedicine and community-based care have emerged as potential strategies to reduce these gaps, but evidence remains fragmented. This narrative review aimed to examine barriers to healthcare access for people with disabilities and explore the role of telemedicine and community-based interventions. A narrative review was conducted following SANRA guidelines. Searches were performed in PubMed, MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Google Scholar. F

Total care expenditures and their drivers among older adults: A study on health and long-term care expenditures in South Korea.

BACKGROUND: South Korea operates two different national insurance systems: health care insurance covers medical services and long-term care (LTC) insurance covers residential care and home care services. Total care expenditures include benefits from both these insurance schemes and personal payments made for receiving these services. This study aims to identify total care expenditures per older person along with related factors and their effects on care expenditures. METHODS: We analyzed claims data of 2017 for LTC and health care insurance in Korea using multiple regression analysis. Partici

Service Utilization and Consumer-Reported Unmet Needs in Medicaid Home- and Community-Based Services for Older Adults.

Home- and community-based services (HCBS) are increasingly favored over nursing home care by older consumers and by policymakers. Consumer-reported unmet service needs in HCBS are important service quality and person-centeredness indicators. Yet, we know little about consumer-reported unmet needs among HCBS users. Therefore, we evaluated consumer-reported unmet needs (i.e. that the services they receive currently were not meeting their needs and goals) for 9,693 Medicaid HCBS beneficiaries (age ≥65 years) in the National Core Indicators-Aging and Disability survey (2016-2019). Personal care (5

Patient-Centered Integrated Model of Home Health Care Services in South Korea (PICS-K).

INTRODUCTION: As South Korea is fast becoming an aging society, the need for integrated care of the elderly has increased. 'Community Integrated Care Initiatives' have been implemented by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. However, home healthcare is insufficient to meet this need. DESCRIPTION: The National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) launched the initiative, 'Patient-Centered Integrated model of Home Health Care Services in South Korea (PICS-K)'. Its purpose is to coordinate home healthcare providers by establishing a home health care support center (HHSC) in public hospitals starting i

Depression, problem recognition, and professional consultation.

Data are from a 1979 community sample (n = 1000) of adults in Los Angeles County. The analysis examines how depressive symptoms, measured with the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CES-D) scale, and a variety of other factors influence problem recognition and use of mental health services. Of those people with a high level of depressive symptoms, nearly one third view themselves as having a nondepressive problem, while another third view themselves as having no personal problem. After controlling for demographic and other factors, depressive symptoms emerge as the most important ele

An Integrated Multilevel Mental Health Support System for University Students: 4-Year Longitudinal Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: University students, in the life stage of emerging adulthood, struggle with a number of mental health problems around the world, mostly due to difficulties related to their studies and social relations. Though most students are aware of their problems, health-seeking behavior tends to lag behind. The COVID-19 pandemic aggravated mental health problems among students. In response, the University of Debrecen developed an integrated, multilevel model system aimed at the screening, prevention, and treatment of students' mental health problems. OBJECTIVE: This paper describes the testi

Homeless health care: meeting the challenges of providing primary care.

People experiencing homelessness have multiple complex health conditions yet are typically disengaged from primary health care services and place a significant burden on the acute health system. Barriers preventing people who are homeless from accessing primary care can be both personal and practical and include competing needs and priorities, illness and poor health, physical access to health services, difficulty in contacting services, medication security, and the affordability of health care. Differences in social status and perceptions of being judged can lead to relationship barriers to a

Psychological traumas and depression in a sample of Vietnamese people in the United States.

This article investigates the relationships among premigration stresses, nightmares, acculturation stresses, personal efficacy, and depression in a sample of 147 adult Vietnamese Americans. The analysis revealed that premigration stresses, nightmares, and acculturation stresses had significant indirect effects on depression. Acculturation stresses diminish personal efficacy, and a weakness of personal efficacy leads to higher depression. Age, gender, marital status, and English language ability also exert differential effects on premigration stresses, nightmares, acculturation stresses, person

Long-Haul Truck Drivers' Perceptions of Truck Stops and Rest Areas: Focusing on Health and Wellness.

The work and life routine of long-haul truck drivers (LHTDs) involve the use of truck stops and rest areas to meet their basic human needs. These extensions of their workspaces on the road do not always offer adequate physical structures and services that drivers need for optimal health. This study aimed to evaluate long-haul truck drivers' perceptions of food services, safety, physical activity, rest, and personal hygiene offered at truck stops and rest areas, as well as the correlation between these perceptions and sociodemographic, health, and work conditions variables. How do general hospitals respond to people diagnosed with a personality disorder who are distressed: A qualitative study of clinicians in mental health liaison.

WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: People diagnosed with a personality disorder might be more likely to have physical health problems and be admitted to the hospital. Treatment in hospitals might be complicated by mental health crises or self-injury, and barriers to NHS care may increase the risk of developing further illness with serious consequences. Literature on "personality disorder" and the general hospital has to date primarily focused on emergency departments. Research on how general hospital inpatient wards respond to people diagnosed with a "personality disorder" has been long overdue. T

Reproductive health risks and clinician practices with gender diverse adolescents and young adults.

BACKGROUND: Reproductive health counseling is essential for adolescents and young adults (AYAs). Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) AYAs would benefit from tailored counseling given concerns about iatrogenic infertility and sexual dysfunction, and high rates of interpersonal violence, unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections, yet there are multiple obstacles to providing this care at the patient/family and clinician levels. OBJECTIVES: This narrative review summarizes the literature on reproductive health considerations for TGD AYAs, current practices, and clinician barrier

In this paper, we explore the reasons behind the limited presence of psychologists in addressing homelessness in France, despite the well-documented mental health needs. We examine how the social sciences have contributed to advancements in supporting people experiencing homelessness, contrasting with the historical lack of research from psychology on this issue. We also discuss the compartmentalization between the medical and social sectors, creating barriers to mental health care accessibility and limiting psychological interventions. This article concludes by highlighting recent strides in
