[Laboral health in Penitentiary Center of Chile: a look from policies of human resources].

This article examines the influence of human resources policies on occupational health variables, such as engagement and job satisfaction, with regard to Chilean prison employees. 80 workers at the Women's Prison of Iquique were evaluated and results show that 77% and 88 % have a moderate to high score in terms of engagement and job satisfaction respectively. The 24% variation in engagement of the workers studied can be explained by policies aimed at promoting personal interests, while 32% of the variation in job satisfaction could be explained by policies of self-efficacy and personal interes

The association between autonomy-supportive coaching and athletes' personal best performance: indirect associations involving basic psychological needs and autonomous motivation.

INTRODUCTION: Although autonomy-supportive coaching has been widely recognized as beneficial for athletes' motivation and performance, associations between autonomy-supportive coaching and athletes' personal best performance remain insufficiently understood. Grounded in Self-Determination Theory (SDT), this study examined the associations among autonomy-supportive coaching, basic psychological need satisfaction, autonomous motivation, and athletes' personal best performance, within a theory-informed associative framework. METHODS: A total of 411 provincial-level athletes from multiple sports

Personal versus therapist perioperative music intervention: a randomized controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Music interventions can alleviate patient anxiety and improve post-surgical satisfaction. However, it remains uncertain whether personal music preferences affect efficacy. The authors tested whether personal music intervention with patient-selected songs played ad libitum is more effective than standard therapist-designed treatment with classical music. METHODS: A prospective, parallel-group, single-blinded, randomized controlled trial with 229 participants (aged 18-60 years) previously scheduled for elective surgery. Data analyses followed a modified intention-to-treat principl

Effect of Age on Job Satisfaction and Emotional Exhaustion of Primary School Teachers in Greece.

The level of occupational burnout (OB) and job satisfaction (JS) was investigated in primary school teachers (n = 125) in the region of Epirus in Northwestern Greece. Teachers exhibited a high level of emotional exhaustion (EE), a medium level of depersonalization (DP), and a lack of personal accomplishment (PA). In our study, EE, which is a significant component of OB, varied according to intrinsic and extrinsic JS parameters. Teachers were less satisfied and more stressed with extrinsic job characteristics of their job, such as working conditions and working hours. Female teachers were more

A cross-sectional analysis of compassion fatigue, burnout, and compassion satisfaction in maternal-fetal medicine physicians in the United States.

BACKGROUND: Compassion fatigue is secondary traumatic distress experienced by providers from ongoing contact with patients who are suffering. Compassion satisfaction is emotional fulfillment from caring for others. Burnout is distress related to dissonance between job demands and available resources. Although burnout is well-studied, compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue are neglected components of physician well-being. Because of recurrent exposure to adverse outcomes, maternal-fetal medicine providers may be at particular risk for compassion fatigue. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to

Predictors of compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction among Australian teachers.

OBJECTIVE: Research on factors that predict compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue of teachers is limited. This study aimed to evaluate predictors of compassion fatigue (as defined by burnout and secondary traumatic stress) and compassion satisfaction of Australian teachers. METHOD: Three hundred and two teachers completed an online survey. It was hypothesized that teachers with prior experience with trauma-exposed students, a history of mental illness, and personal trauma history would show higher compassion fatigue. Older teachers, teachers previously exposed to trauma training, and

Daily Boredom and Daily Life Satisfaction: A Daily Diary Study of Meaning in Life as a Mediator.

Although prior research has demonstrated that boredom is associated with lower life satisfaction at the between-person level, the within-person association between them and its mediating mechanism remains unexplored. Therefore, the present study employed a daily diary design to examine whether daily boredom predicted daily life satisfaction and whether this association was mediated by meaning in life. Over two consecutive weeks, 146 Chinese college students (Mage = 20.75, 44.5% female) completed daily assessments of boredom, meaning in life, and life satisfaction. A multilevel 1-1-1 mediation

Witness to suffering: mindfulness and compassion fatigue among traumatic bereavement volunteers and professionals.

This study used a survey to investigate the relationship between mindfulness and compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction among 41 volunteers and professionals at an agency serving the traumatically bereaved. Compassion fatigue comprises two aspects: secondary traumatic stress and burnout. Because prior research suggests that compassion satisfaction may protect against compassion fatigue, the authors hypothesized that (a) mindfulness would be positively correlated with compassion satisfaction, (b) mindfulness would be inversely correlated with compassion fatigue, and (c) there would be d

Daily stress spillover and crossover in couples coping with type 1 diabetes.

In the context of a chronic illness such as Type 1 diabetes (T1D), managing general stressors may be linked to diabetes-specific stressors for persons with T1D, an intraindividual contagion phenomenon (i.e., spillover). Among those with romantic partners, stress may also be associated with the partner's stress (i.e., crossover). These intraindividual and interpersonal processes may be further strengthened or weakened in the presence of individual (e.g., sleep satisfaction) and interpersonal (e.g., relationship satisfaction) factors. This study examined spillover and crossover effects between d

Heroin-dependent patient satisfaction with methadone as a medication influences satisfaction with basic interventions delivered by staff to implement methadone maintenance treatment.

PURPOSE: The aim of the present study was to test a structural equation model of patient satisfaction with different key facets of methadone maintenance treatment (MMT). In this model, the three dimensions of patient satisfaction with methadone as a medication (ie, personal functioning and well-being, anti-addictive effect on heroin, and anti-addictive effect on non-opioid substances) were expected to predict satisfaction with the basic interventions delivered by the staff of treatment centers to implement MMT. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A sample of 210 heroin-dependent patients, resistant to MMT

Investigating pathological narcissism and loneliness, and the link with life satisfaction.

Loneliness is a significant health concern that may be influenced by dispositional features. Pathological narcissism may elevate loneliness through aversive interpersonal behaviors and negative social appraisals. The present study examined two dimensions of pathological narcissism, along with five-factor personality traits, in relation to loneliness among 120 young adults. Loneliness was also examined as a mediator between pathological narcissism and satisfaction with life. Narcissistic grandiosity and narcissistic vulnerability were both significantly associated with loneliness. Multiple regr

Canonical Correlation Analysis of Multidimensional Perfectionism and Mental Health Among Filipino Young Adults.

Perfectionism is a multidimensional personality trait that has been consistently linked to both negative and positive mental health outcomes. Yet recent research has increasingly reduced perfectionism to broad higher-order factors leaving specific dimensions underexamined. The present study examined how the six dimensions of Multidimensional Perfectionism according to Frost et al. (1990)-Concern over Mistakes, Doubts about Actions, Personal Standards, Organization, Parental Expectations, and Parental Criticism-relate to positive and negative mental health outcomes among Filipino young adults.
