Path planning, obstacle avoidance, and trajectory control of a differential-drive mobile robot based on improved RRT∗-APF and nonsingular quasi-sliding mode techniques.

This study presents a framework for path planning, trajectory generation, and trajectory control of a differential-drive mobile robot in obstacle-populated environments. In the path-planning phase, an improved RRT∗-APF (rapidly-exploring random tree star and artificial potential field) method is developed by integrating RRT∗ with APF, safety inflation, and a steering-aware smoothness cost. Furthermore, parent-node selection and connection in RRT∗ are determined by a indicator designed to consider path length, obstacle risk, and smoothness. The generated path is optimized by greedy pruning and

Comparing two radiotherapy techniques of whole central nervous system tumors, considering tumor and critical organs' dose provided by treatment planning system and direct measurement.

AIMS: In central nervous system (CNS) tumors, surgery combined with radiotherapy may cure many tumors. The basic technique in conventional radiotherapy is craniospinal radiotherapy; in this technique, spinal cord can be treated with electron or photon beams. This study was aimed to compare two radiotherapy techniques in craniospinal radiotherapy, (a) treatment of spine with a single photon beam and (b) with a combination of photon and electron beams. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The two techniques were planned. In the first technique, both brain and spine were irradiated with 6 MV photon beams. In

Evaluation of skin dose robustness in breast radiotherapy using VMAT planning technique: a phantom-based surface dosimetry study.

Objective.Minor anatomical changes from evolving edema during breast radiotherapy can compromise skin dose, particularly for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT). This study experimentally evaluated the robustness of conventional, skin-flash, and robust-optimization-based VMAT techniques against simulated contour variations using phantom-based surface dosimetry.Approach.Two configurations of an anthropomorphic phantom simulated clinical scenarios: with a breast attachment (large/reconstructed) and without (small/postmastectomy flat chest wall). Four plans were compared: 3D-CRT, conventional

Hybrid Technique in Temporomandibular Joint Ankylosis Arthroplasty Using Surgical Cement and Screw Fixation with Three-Dimensional Printing Planning.

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis compromises essential functions such as chewing, phonation, and breathing. Surgical treatment aims to restore mandibular mobility and prevent the recurrence of joint fusion. This article describes a technical variation based on Puricelli biconvex arthroplasty, using surgical cement, screw fixation, and 3D-printed cutting guides based on virtual planning, allowing for greater precision in joint reconstruction. In this work, we present the step-by-step process used in the customization of cutting guides, virtual planning, and the production of the interpos

Finite-element-based 3D computer modeling for personalized treatment planning in clubfoot deformity: Case report with technique description.

RATIONALE: In clubfoot deformity, planning of corrective treatment requires a complex understanding of the foot anatomy, as well as of the geometry and distribution of altered mechanical forces acting at the level of the deformed foot. At the same time, treatment success depends largely on the selection of the most appropriate shape and angles of the customized orthesis developed for foot correction. Therefore, a complex assessment of the intensity and distribution of the mechanical forces at this site is mandatory prior to initiation of any corrective therapy. PATIENT CONCERNS: We present he

A Novel Preoperative Planning Technique Using a Combination of CT Angiography and Three-Dimensional Printing for Complex Toe-to-Hand Reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: Microsurgical toe-to-hand transplantation is a reasonable salvage procedure after failed replantation, though no consensus exists on proper donor toe length for restoration of hand function and optimal donor flap needed for recipient site healing. The purpose of this study was to introduce a novel technique for preoperative planning in complicated toe-to-hand reconstruction and to assess feasibility in four cases. METHODS: Computed tomography (CT) angiography was used to map donor site vasculature, whereas CT data were used to create three-dimensional (3D) soft tissue and skeletal

Correction of a severe facial asymmetry with computerized planning and with the use of a rapid prototyped surgical template: a case report/technique article.

Management of significant facial asymmetry presents a challenge due to the geometric complexity of the bony and other facial structures. Manual model surgery is an essential part of treatment planning but it can be complicated, time-consuming and may contain potential errors. Computer-aided surgery has revolutionized the correction of maxillofacial deformities. The aim of this study was to report a case of facial asymmetry when computerised simulation surgery was performed instead of manual model surgery and a virtually planned wafer splint was fabricated. A 26-year-old male was presented with

The DIEP Flap Revisit: A Cornerstone of Modern Autologous Breast Reconstruction Anatomy, Preoperative Planning, Surgical Technique, Outcomes, and Complications.

Deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap has become a standard of care in autologous breast reconstruction, offering reliable aesthetic outcomes and minimized donor site morbidity. Despite its advantages, substantial variability in perforator anatomy and intramuscular course presents technical challenges, and detailed knowledge, meticulous preoperative planning, and precise microsurgical techniques are the key to success. Advances in preoperative imaging, particularly computed tomography angiography (CTA), have enhanced perforator selection and flap design, improving operative efficienc

Shifting-field-of-view technique enhancing the inflow effect for identifying tumor/vessel boundaries in MRI for radiotherapy treatment planning.

This study presents two cases of tumors in contact with the inferior vena cava during radiotherapy, and introduces a clinically useful technique for identifying tumor boundaries adjacent to blood vessels by adjusting the position of the field-of-view (FOV) to enhance the inflow effect in magnetic resonance imaging. We named this technique "Shifting-FOV." This method consists of three steps: (1) remove the upper and lower saturation pulses outside the FOV, (2) align the FOV to position the lower edge of the imaging slab as close to the tumor as possible, and (3) manually adjust the table positi

Emergency Evacuation Plan for Hazardous Chemicals Leakage Accidents Using GIS-based Risk Analysis Techniques in South Korea.

Despite improvements in chemical safety management systems, incidents involving the release of hazardous chemicals continue to happen. In some cases, they result in the evacuation of residents. For hazardous chemical release accidents, an evacuation plan needs to be selective enough to consider both the indoor and outdoor concentrations of nearby buildings and the time in which the maximum allowable concentration may occur. In this study, a real-time risk analysis tool was developed based on the geographic information system (GIS) in order to establish the emergency response and risk communica

The dosimetric impact of trade-off optimization in high-quality Craniospinal Irradiation plans based on volumetric modulated arc therapy technique.

This study assesses the dosimetric effectiveness of the commercial trade-off optimization (TO) module in comparison to iterative optimization for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) in craniospinal irradiation technique.Fifteen patients who had previously undergone VMAT-based craniospinal irradiation (CSI) using manual optimization (TP) underwent re-optimization with trade-off optimization (MCO). All patients were treated using the Halcyon-E O-ring linear accelerator, with maximum field size of 28×28 cm², a 6MV unflattened beam, and adjacent isocenter field overlap of 10 cm. Plans were com

Comparison of Dosimetric Benefits of Three Precise Radiotherapy Techniques in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Patients Using a Priority-Classified Plan Optimization Model.

INTRODUCTION: Although intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT) and tomotherapy (TOMO) are broadly applied for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), the best technique remains unclear. Therefore, this study was conducted to address this issue. METHODS: The priority-classified plan optimization model was applied to IMRT, VMAT and TOMO plans in forty NPC patients according to the latest international guidelines. And the dosimetric parameters of planning target volumes (PTVs) and organs at risk (OARs) were compared among these three techniques. The Friedman M te

Dosimetric Benefits of Omitting Primary Tumor Beds in Postoperative Radiotherapy After Transoral Robotic Surgery Using the Auto-Planning Technique.

INTRODUCTION: It has been suggested that post-transoral robotic surgery (post-TORS) radiotherapy (RT) might reduce the dose to organs at risk (OARs) adjacent to the primary tumor bed; however, the evidence supporting this has yet to be sufficient. This study examined the radiation dose reduction to OARs by omitting the primary tumor bed through the use of an Auto-Planning (AP)-based workflow. METHODS: Twelve patients were identified who underwent post-TORS RT to the primary tumor bed and the unilateral/bilateral neck lymph nodes. In each patient, two treatment plans were designed: a Comprehen

Conventional 4-field box radiotherapy technique for cancer cervix: potential for geographic miss without CECT scan-based planning.

BACKGROUND: The advantage of 4-field radiation to the pelvis is that the use of lateral portals spares a portion of the small bowel anteriorly and rectum posteriorly. The standard lateral portals defined in textbooks are not always adequate especially in advanced cancer cervix. METHODS: An analysis was done to determine adequacy of margins of standard lateral pelvic portals with CECT defined tumor volumes. The study included 40 patients of FIGO stage IIB and IIIB treated definitively for cancer cervix between 1998 and 2000. An inadequate margin was defined if the cervical growth and uterus we
