[A case of acute polyradiculoneuropathy with autonomic disturbances following rubella infection].

A 32-year-old man developed a rash on his body and extremities following acute fever of a few days duration, and also noticed pain and spontaneous tingling sensations in his lower extremities. Because severe pneumonia with dyspnea and low arterial blood oxygen concentration were found on examination, he was admitted and treated. After recovering from pneumonia in two months, he complained of abdominal symptoms, such as constipation, nausea and vomiting, spontaneous tingling sensations in the lower extremities, and orthostatic dizziness and fainting. On neurological examination, a mild to moder

Over-Expression of Immune-Related lncRNAs in Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathies.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have crucial roles in the pathogenesis of immune-related disorders. However, their role in the pathobiology of inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathies remains unclear. In the current study, we measured peripheral expression of four lncRNAs, namely TUG1, FAS-AS1, NEAT1, and GAS5, in patients with acute/chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathies (AIDP/CIDP) compared with healthy subjects. Notably, all lncRNAs were over-expressed in patients compared with controls (P < 0.0001 for all lncRNAs). When assessing their expressions in AIDP and

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy in a boy with systemic lupus erythematosus.

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) is an acquired, autoimmune peripheral neuropathy. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multisystemic, autoimmune disease that can affect the central nervous system in about 40% of patients, with prevalence and incidence unknown in the pediatric population due to lack of multicenter studies. We report the case of a 13-year-old Mexican boy, diagnosed with CIDP at the onset of SLE, beginning with progressive muscle weakness of lower and upper limbs, without affection of the central nervous system. The patient had positive ANA, an

[A case of multiple sclerosis associated with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy].

We report a 19-year-old girl with multiple sclerosis (MS) who had chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP). At the age of 9 (1981), she was diagnosed as having Devic disease, including optic neuritis and transverse myelitis. For two years after the onset of the disease, she suffered from three relapses of MS and was treated with prednisone. At the age of 11, she noticed muscle weakness and sensory disturbance of four limbs. On examination, all tendon reflexes were absent, CSF protein was elevated, and motor nerve conduction velocity of the ulnar nerves was markedly slow

Thiamine deficiency encephalopathy with concurrent myocardial degeneration and polyradiculoneuropathy in a cat.

Hyaline degeneration, myofiber fragmentation, and mineralization were present in the left ventricle of an aged, female Siamese cat with both clinical and histopathological evidence suggestive of a thiamine deficiency encephalopathy. Both a thiamine related biochemical lesion and neurogenic myocardial degeneration ("Brain-Heart" Syndrome) may have contributed to the development of the heart lesions. A concurrent lumbar polyradiculoneuropathy, characterized by ballooning myelin sheaths with axonal degeneration, was considered an incidental, age-related finding.

Chronic polyradiculoneuropathy of infancy. A report of three cases with familial incidence.

Two siblings and a third child exhibited a syndrome of progressive muscular weakness and wasting, closely resembling Werdnig-Hoffmann's disease. Autopsy of one of the siblings and the third child showed nearly total absence of myelin sheaths in the cranial and spinal nerve roots, relative preservation of axons, and normal neurons in the motor cranial nerve nuclei and anterior spinal gray matter. The mother of the siblings had bilateral pes cavus, and the father of the third child had a sensory-motor polyneuropathy dating to childhood, associated with pes cavus and scoliosis. The disorder in th

Charcot-Marie-Tooth type 2CC misdiagnosed as Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) is a heterogeneous group of genetic neuropathies and is typically characterized by distal muscle weakness, sensory loss, pes cavus and areflexia. Herein we describe a case of CMT2CC presenting with proximal muscle weakness and equivocal electrophysiological features, that was misdiagnosed as chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). CASE REPORT: A 30-year-old woman complained of proximal muscle weakness with difficulty climbing stairs. Neurological examination showed weakness in lower limb (LL) muscles, that was marked proximally

Tendon-Sparing Extraocular Muscle Enlargement Associated With Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy.

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) is an inflammatory, sensorimotor polyneuropathy. It has presented with a variety of orbital and neuro-ophthalmic manifestations, including cranial nerve hypertrophy and a single case of extraocular muscle enlargement. The authors present a second case of tendon-sparing, extraocular muscle enlargement, resulting in new-onset diplopia and strabismus in a teenager with CIDP. The workup ruled out alternative causes of extraocular muscle enlargement, such as hyperthyroidism, inflammation, or malignancy. As with other cases of CIDP, ma

Extraocular Muscle Enlargement and Proptosis Associated with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy.

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) is an inflammatory neuropathy, which commonly causes peripheral neuropathy. It has rarely been associated with cranial nerve hypertrophy and neuro-ophthalmic manifestations. Proptosis secondary to cranial nerve hypertrophy has been reported in association with CIDP. The authors present a case of a 67-year-old man with CIDP who presented with bilateral proptosis, strabismus, and episodes of globe subluxation. The proptosis was mainly attributed to significant enlargement of the extraocular muscles, in addition to bilateral enlarge

Nivolumab and Ipilimumab-induced Acute Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy: A Case Report.

Immunotherapies such as the cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 inhibitor ipilimumab and the programmed cell death protein 1 inhibitor nivolumab have become ubiquitous in cancer treatment. Recently, the FDA approved nivolumab with or without ipilimumab for the treatment of refractory small cell lung cancer. Immunotherapies increase the immune response to cancer cells by interfering with inhibitory molecular pathways that prevent tumor cell killing, thus augmenting tumor cell death without many of the cytotoxic side effects associated with chemotherapy. However, this augmented immune re

Subacute demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy complicating Epstein-Barr virus infection in GATA2 haploinsufficiency.

INTRODUCTION: Autosomal dominant haploinsufficiency of GATA2 causes monocytopenia and natural killer cell lymphopenia, resulting in predisposition to mycobacterial, fungal, and viral infections. METHODS: Herein we report on the clinical, serologic, electrophysiologic, and pathologic evaluations of a 29-year-old woman with GATA2 haploinsufficiency and active Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection complicated by subacute painful neuropathy. RESULTS: Nerve conduction and electromyography studies showed predominantly demyelinating sensorimotor polyradiculoneuropathy. Lumbar spine MRI showed thickeni

Acute inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy in a patient receiving oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy.

We report a case of acute inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (AIDP) that developed in a patient with cholangiocarcinoma after receiving oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy. A 62-year-old man had multiple hypodense lesions with delayed enhancement in the both lobes of the liver on abdominal computed tomography. He was treated with 5-fluorouracil, leucovorin and oxaliplatin (100 mg/m(2)). After eight cycles of treatment and a cumulative oxaliplatin dose of 780 mg/m(2), he developed an unsteady gait, dysphagia, weakness of both the upper and lower limbs and impairment of all sensory mod

Prominent cauda equina involvement in patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy.

In chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP), it has not been well known which segment of the peripheral nerves, distal or proximal, is more often involved in electrophysiological examination. This study compares nerve conductions at proximal segments with those at distal segments in 11 patients with CIDP. To obtain cauda euqina conduciton time (CECT), compound muscle action potentials (CMAPs) were elicited by magnetic stimulation using a MATS coil from the abductor hallucis muscle. CECT was prolonged in 9 patients (81.8%), whereas the ankle-knee conduction was delayed i

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy: MRI study of brain and spinal cord.

CNS demyelinating lesions have been reported in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP). There are no studies of cord atrophy in CIDP. Ten patients with CIDP underwent brain and spinal cord MRI to investigate CNS demyelination and cord atrophy. No CNS demyelination was found, but the mean cervical cord area was significantly smaller in CIDP patients vs control subjects. Spinal cord atrophy may be related to degeneration secondary to axonal loss.

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy and severe peripheral oedema: a renal explanation.

Inflammatory demyelinating neuropathies have been associated with membranous and focal sclerosing glomerulonephritis. Here we describe a 58 year old man with a clinical history, physical examination and laboratory investigations consistent with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP), who also had severe lower limb and sacral oedema resistant to medical therapy. Mild proteinuria was present and a renal biopsy showed features consistent with focal sclerosing glomerulonephritis (FSGN). The patient's weakness and oedema did not respond to i.v. immunoglobulin or plasmapher

[Renal glucosuria and membranous glomerulonephritis in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy: CIDP].

Glucosuria was detected in a 7-year-old boy by a routine school mass examination in April 1991. The diagnosis of renal glucosuria was made in the affiliated hospital of the University of Tsukuba. The patient developed muscle weakness and gait disturbance in February 1993. Spinal fluid examination revealed a protein level of 62 mg/dl and a cell count of 4/3. Under the diagnosis of Guillain-Barré syndrome, he was treated with i.v. immunoglobulin and oral prednisolone. Although the therapy somewhat improved the symptoms, his muscle strength had not fully recovered at the end of the treatment. In

Daratumumab Treatment for Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP): A Case Report.

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) is an immune-mediated neuropathy featuring progressive weakness, sensory deficits, and areflexia. While corticosteroids, intravenous immunoglobulin, and plasmapheresis are effective first-line immunotherapies, a subset of patients remains treatment-refractory. Daratumumab, an anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody approved for multiple myeloma, demonstrates immunomodulatory effects suggesting utility in refractory neuroimmune disorders. However, evidence for its efficacy in CIDP remains limited. We report a case study of treatment-refract

Metabolic disorder and intestinal microflora dysbiosis in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy.

OBJECTIVE: Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) is a rare acquired immune-mediated neuropathy. Although microbial infection is potentially a contributing factor, a causative link between CIDP and microbial infection remains unclear. There is also no definitive biomarker for CIDP diagnostics and therapies. The present study aimed to characterize the serum metabolic profile and gut microbiome structure in CIDP. METHODS: Targeted metabolomics profiling of serum, using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, and metagenomics sequencing of stool samples from a cohort o
