BACKGROUND: There has been no previous report on allergens responsible for dermatitis in southwest China.
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the prevalence of contact allergy in southwest China, we retrospectively analysed the patch testing results in our department from 2004 to 2009.
METHODS: A total of 2758 patients were patch tested with the Chinese baseline series of contact allergens (Beijing Medical University), the most common baseline series used in China. The results from patch tests were collected, analysed, and compared with clinical findings.

Three thousand subjects in North America were patch-tested with 19 allergens. The most frequent sensitizers observed include nickel sulfate, caine mixture, potassium dichromate, balsam of Peru, thimerosal, ethylenediamine hydrochloride, paraphenylenediamine and thiram. The prevalence data compared with an earlier study indicates that the initial allergens reported warrant their continued inclusion in a routine patch test screening series in North America.

BACKGROUND: Data regarding occupational contact dermatitis (OCD) and its effect on quality of life (QOL) in India are limited.
OBJECTIVES/AIMS: To evaluate patients with OCD and record the outcome of treatment.

BACKGROUND: Rapid urbanization, westernization of lifestyles, poor quality of objects available and extremely relaxed vigilance on adherence to 'product safety guidelines' make any developing country like India highly susceptible to allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) even in children. Tefillin (phylacteries) are a religious article worn by observant Jewish men. Only two cases of allergic contact dermatitis from tefillin have been reported previously. We describe 7 new cases of tefillin contact dermatitis and review the literature on contact allergy caused by religious objects and practices. All our patients had contact allergy to potassium dichromate, which was the only allergen relevant to tefillin .
