In 2005, the city and state of New York launched New York/New York III (NY/NY III), a permanent supportive housing program for individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness with complex medical and behavioral health issues. This review paper summarizes a decade of findings (2007-2017) from the NY/NY III evaluation team, to analyze this program's impact on various housing and health outcomes. The evaluation team linked NY/NY III eligible persons with administrative data from two years pre- and two years post-eligibility and compared housing and health outcomes between placed

BACKGROUND: Over 600,000 people leave US prisons annually. Many are eligible for Medicaid upon release but may need support to enroll. Carceral facilities in nearly half of states have implemented systems to facilitate Medicaid access for those leaving incarceration, but there is limited information on program implementation models or outcomes.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate implementation and initial outcomes of Louisiana's prison-based Prerelease Medicaid Enrollment Program.
METHODS: In this mixed-methods study, we assessed enrollment in Louisiana Medicaid at time of release from prison in the 2

This cross-sectional study was conducted as an experiential project in a graduate Program Evaluation class. We worked together as a team to solve difficulties that occurred when evaluating a program for the first time, including overcoming initial fears and identifying the appropriate focus. The goal of this study was to identify the most common barriers to attendance at Bridgehaven Mental Health Services, a community-based outpatient program tailored to aid in the transition from hospitals to community living. External barriers to attendance were examined by an adapted version of the Structur

BACKGROUND: Rising use of prescription opioids is a major public health concern associated with increased risk of mortality worldwide. Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid available in patch form, is particularly concerning given its high potency. To curb the misuse and diversion of fentanyl patches, a Patch-for-Patch (P4P) program was implemented in some counties in Ontario between 2012 and 2015. The program requires that patients prescribed fentanyl must return used patches to the pharmacy before receiving more patches.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of the P4P program on fentanyl and non-fentan

OBJECTIVE: Pillars4Life is an educational program that teaches coping skills to cancer patients in a virtual group setting; it was recently implemented at 17 hospitals across the USA. The cost-effective, scalable, and assessable Pillars4Life curriculum targets psychosocial resources (e.g., self-efficacy and coping skills) as a means to reduce symptoms (e.g., depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress) and enhance quality of life.
METHODS: Cancer patients were recruited from hospitals that received the LIVESTRONG Community Impact Project Award to enroll in a pilot study of Pillars4Life. Con

BACKGROUND: Psychosocial care and methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) are the preferred strategies for the management of heroin addicts, but the results are still unsatisfactory, justifying the search and intervention of the factors influencing the response to treatment.
METHODOLOGY: In order to determine the contribution of demographic, clinical and genetic variables on serum concentrations and response to methadone, we investigated patients on MMT, who were receiving methadone in supervised and unchanged doses at least during the previous two weeks. The age, gender, body mass index (BMI),

BACKGROUND: Until now there has been no data to show the effectiveness or benefits of screening for syphilis in gravidas in China. This study was to assess the effectiveness of a program preventing mother-to-child-transmission of syphilis and to reveal factors impacting the benefit.

In Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, difficulty accessing syringes at night has been shown to be strongly associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) risk behavior among the city's injection drug users (IDUs). On September 1, 2001, the Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users (VANDU) initiated an unsanctioned all-night needle-exchange program on a street corner in the heart of the neighborhood where many of the city's IDUs are concentrated. An external evaluation of the population reached by the VANDU exchange was performed through the Vancouver Injection Drug User's Study, a prospective

OBJECTIVES: To determine whether a structured, 6-week mental health day treatment program was meeting its objectives and to examine the program's effectiveness with specific patient groups.
METHOD: Self-report questionnaires focusing on psychiatric symptoms, assertiveness, stress management, and social functioning were completed by patients directly prior to admission (pretest), at discharge (posttest), and at 4-month follow-up. Clinician ratings, including the DSM-III-R Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) scale, were collected. Ninety-one participants completed pre- and posttests, and 51

An evaluation of Project Redirection, a two-year demonstration program designed to help pregnant teenagers and teenage mothers, shows that teenagers from a comparison group, who were not enrolled in the demonstration program, were significantly more likely than project participants to experience a repeat pregnancy after one year, but that after two years the difference was small and nonsignificant. Likewise, at 12 months into the program, the project participants proved more likely to be using contraceptives, but by 24 months the comparison group had caught up. After one year of participation,

BACKGROUND: The ADAPT Program have improved activities of daily living (ADL) in women with fibromyalgia. To understand the functioning of the program, it is relevant to evaluate how program theory components are linked to outcomes (mechanisms) and how the randomised controlled trial (RCT) context, influenced delivery and outcomes.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate ADAPT in terms of dose, mechanisms of change and contextual factors.
MATERIAL/METHODS: Dose was recorded on the n = 21 participants receiving ADAPT in the IMPROvE trial (NCT01352052). A subsample of n = 16 attended one of three 2-hour focusgr

OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to evaluate the roll-out of rapid HIV testing as part of an emergency Prevention of Perinatal HIV Transmission Program. Specifically, HIV prevalence in this population, the reason(s) for performing the rapid HIV test, and compliance with recommendations for antiretroviral prophylaxis were assessed.
METHODS: Since November 2011, all women presenting to a tertiary labour and delivery unit with unknown HIV status or with ongoing risk of HIV infection since their last HIV test were offered rapid HIV testing. Through retrospective chart review, demographic data,

The objective of this methodology note is to examine perinatal program evaluation methods as they relate to the life course health development model (LCHD) and risk reduction for poor birth outcomes. We searched PubMed, CDC, ERIC, and a list from the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP) to identify sources. We included reports from theory, methodology, program reports, and instruments, as well as reviews of Healthy Start Programs and home visiting. Because our review focused upon evaluation methods we did not include reports that described the Healthy Start Program. The LC
