Thirty-nine invited speakers from nine different countries participated in the conference. There were more than 350 attendees. There were formal presentations and discussions on biology, clinical aspects, and management of patients with these diverse bone marrow stem cell disorders linked by a variable progression to acute myeloid leukemia. Of considerable interest, a clinical symposium exclusively for patients was held the day pre

Telerehabilitation as a Method for Achieving Competencies in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine Residency Training in a Developing Country: A Protocol for a Pilot Mixed-Methods Study.

BACKGROUND: In the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic, Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM) residents in a developing country continue to face a lack of in-person clinical exposure and learning opportunities. With the unprecedented shift to virtual care, it remains uncertain whether residents can achieve PRM competencies using telerehabilitation as a method of instruction. OBJECTIVE: To determine the PRM residents' ability to achieve competencies through telerehabilitation, as perceived by different stakeholders (residents, chief residents, training officers, and department heads). Rationale and design of randomized controlled trial protocol of cardiovascular rehabilitation based on the use of telemedicine technology in the Czech Republic (CR-GPS).

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular diseases remain the most common causes of death in the world. Instructions for secondary prevention recommend multifaceted approach in cardiovascular diseases risk management. Center-based physical exercise training is considered as an important integral part of cardiac rehabilitation (CR). Despite all recognized benefits CR brings, active interest of patients remains low in many countries, including the Czech Republic. That is why there is a need to focus on more effective patients' participation in CR with respect to their preferences and needs. One of possible app

>Documenting Baseline Efficacy of Grain Rescue Training for Emergency First Responders Through Pre- and Post-Testing, and Follow-Up Survey.

HIGHLIGHTS: Pre- and post-tests, administered to 2,141 emergency first responder participants, showed an average improvement in test scores from 67% to 75%, highlighting the efficacy of the training. Interviews conducted within 3 years post-training revealed high participant satisfaction, with over 25% reporting adoption of key strategies discussed in the training by their fire/rescue service. Areas of concern were identified, including the lack of understanding related to certain hazards, such as free-flowing grain, which may put first responders at risk of secondary victimization. ABSTRACT:

Topical isotretinoin vs. topical retinoic acid in the treatment of acne vulgaris.

UNLABELLED: This is a clinical, prospective, and longitudinal study comparing the efficacy and incidence of averse effects of topical isotretinoin against those of topical retinoic acid in the treatment of acne vulgaris. The 30 participants were recruited from the patients attending the outpatient clinic of the Department of Dermatology of "Dr Manuel Gea González" General Hospital in Mexico City. They belonged to either sex and any race, their ages ranged between 13 and 30 years, and they presented with 15 to 100 facial inflammatory lesions (papulo-pustules) and/or 15 to 100 noninflammatory le

Clinical Decision-Making Case: Pulmonary Embolism.

AUDIENCE: Emergency medicine residents and medical students on emergency medicine rotations. INTRODUCTION: Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a common diagnosis with an annual incidence of approximately one in 1000 persons.1,2,3 There is a wide variety of clinical presentations, ranging from the asymptomatic patient to shock and cardiac arrest. Most patients have chest pain and shortness of breath (SOB), but PE may also present with mild or nonspecific symptoms, such as dizziness, cough, wheezing, syncope and hemoptysis. These patients have risk for clinical decompensation.4,5 It is therefore critica

Promoting transgender healthcare competency: simulation scenario for medical students.

BACKGROUND: Medical professionals, from trainees to practicing clinicians, often lack adequate preparation to provide care and understand the health needs of transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people, as documented worldwide. As a result, many medical trainees feel unprepared to deliver competent and affirming care to TGD patients. To address this educational gap, this study implemented a simulation-based learning activity as an initial exposure to TGD healthcare. We aimed to assess medical students' attitudes and performance in a transgender healthcare simulation scenario. METHODS: We desi

A Longitudinal and Multimodal Simulation-Based Curriculum Improved Internal Medicine Residents' Confidence in Procedures, Point-of-Care Ultrasound, and Clinical Decision-Making.

Introduction Internal medicine training has historically relied on classroom-based lectures, typically delivered through morning and noon conferences, which offer broad content coverage but limited experiential learning. Simulation-based education improves resident confidence, procedural ability, and clinical reasoning; yet it is often delivered in brief, standalone activities that lack longitudinal structure or integration within the broader curriculum. Few programs have a longitudinal simulation curriculum that spans the academic year and incorporates multiple modalities and topics. Male circumcision.

Male circumcision consists of the surgical removal of some, or all, of the foreskin (or prepuce) from the penis. It is one of the most common procedures in the world. In the United States, the procedure is commonly performed during the newborn period. In 2007, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) convened a multidisciplinary workgroup of AAP members and other stakeholders to evaluate the evidence regarding male circumcision and update the AAP's 1999 recommendations in this area. The Task Force included AAP representatives from specialty areas as well as members of the AAP Board of Director
