Noise sensitivity and hyperacusis are decreased sound tolerance conditions that are not well delineated or defined. This paper presents the correlations and distributions of the Noise Sensitivity Scale (NSS) and the Hyperacusis Questionnaire (HQ) scores in two distinct large samples. In Study 1, a community-based sample of young healthy adults (n = 103) exhibited a strong correlation (r = 0.74) between the two questionnaires. Spontaneous electrical oscillations (AC potentials) were observed in the cochlea of three guinea pigs without any exposure to noise or drugs. Prior to surgery, pure-tone audiometry and bone-conducted (BC) electrocochleography (ECOG) were performed on 17 patients with preoperatively diagnosed otosclerosis. Equal loss in sensitivity for air and bone conduction and poor speech discrimination are considered characteristic of the hearing impairment in Menière's disease. Periodic pressure changes applied to the middle ear produced an air-bone gap in 16 out of 19 patients with advanced Menière's disease. Results of a socio-acoustic study of human reaction to aircraft noise around Australian airports are described. The relative importance of night, evening, and daytime operations in determining overall reaction is assessed using a correlation analysis procedure. The results indicate that night-time weightings used in most existing noise exposure indices including NEF and DNL, are too large. However, other evidence suggests that both night and evening weightings should be greater than 0 dB. BACKGROUND: Tinnitus is the most common complication of sudden deafness. There are many studies on tinnitus and tinnitus as a prognostic factor for sudden deafness.
SUMMARY: We collected 285 cases (330 ears) of sudden deafness to investigate the relationship between tinnitus psychoacoustic characteristics and the hearing curative effective rate. The hearing curative effective rate was analyzed and compared between the patients whether it is accompanied by tinnitus, with different tinnitus frequency and different tinnitus loudness.

We characterized temporal psychoacoustic performance in a group of adult dyslexics with excellent cognitive abilities. These individuals performed adequately on a two-tone frequency discrimination task when inter-stimulus intervals were long ( > or =1 s or more).
