Development of a Brief Psychological Trauma Intervention for Child Sexual Abuse in India.

Despite the alarming increase in incidences of child sexual abuse (CSA) in India, intervention research remains preliminary and generic. Although Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) has been found to be consistently effective in addressing the adverse consequences of CSA, none of the cultural adaptations of CBT have been evidenced in India so far. Hence, the present study was conceived to develop a CSA-focused brief CBT intervention for children between 7 and 13 years of age. Intervention development progressed through four steps: 1) a systematic review of literature; 2) a qualitative study, incl

Prevalence and Characterization of Psychological Trauma in Patients with Fibromyalgia: A Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Preliminary evidence suggests that psychological trauma, especially childhood trauma, is a risk factor for the onset of fibromyalgia (FM). OBJECTIVE: The main objective of this study consisted of evaluating the prevalence and detailed characteristics of psychological trauma in a sample of patients with FM, the chronology of trauma across the lifespan, and its clinical symptoms. We also calculated whether childhood trauma could predict the relationship with different clinical variables. METHOD: Eighty-eight females underwent an interview to assess sociodemographic data, psychiatri

Childhood trauma and psychological symptoms in young adults: examining the mediating role of vulnerable narcissism and the moderating role of psychological resilience.

INTRODUCTION: Childhood trauma is consistently associated with symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress, yet the self-related processes and adaptive resources relevant to these associations remain insufficiently understood. This study examined whether vulnerable narcissism statistically mediated the associations between childhood trauma and these three symptom domains and whether psychological resilience moderated the associations between vulnerable narcissism and these symptoms. METHODS: A cross-sectional convenience sample of 571 young adults aged 18-30 years was recruited online from Tü

Assessing psychological trauma levels and contributory factors among pregnant women following seismic events.

This study aimed to examine post-earthquake psychological trauma and its contributing factors among pregnant women who were exposed to the large-scale twin earthquakes that occurred on February 6, 2023, in Türkiye. This cross-sectional study was conducted with 5227 pregnant women and found that 72.2% experienced post-earthquake psychological trauma following the earthquakes, including behavioral, sleep-related, emotional, and cognitive symptoms. The most significant factors contributing to this trauma were exposure to the earthquake in the most severely affected centers or in center with the h

A scoping review of therapies used to treat psychological trauma post perinatal bereavement.

BACKGROUND: Up to 39% of women who experience perinatal bereavement proceed to develop Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder (PTSD), with this large proportion meriting treatment. Before setting-up a treatment service for postnatal women who are experiencing psychological trauma, it is important to identify what therapies have been used in-the-past to address this problem. AIM: To scope for research that has implemented therapies to treat psychological trauma post perinatal bereavement, for potential inclusion in a flexible treatment package. METHOD: A scoping review mapped coverage, range, and typ

Effectiveness of trauma-focused art therapy (TFAT) for psychological trauma: study protocol of a multiple-baseline single-case experimental design.

INTRODUCTION: Treatments such as eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing and (narrative) exposure therapies are commonly used in psychological trauma. In everyday practice, art therapy is also often used, although rigorous research on its efficacy is lacking. Patients seem to benefit from the indirect, non-verbal experiential approach of art therapy. This protocol paper describes a study to examine the effectiveness of a 10-week individual trauma-focused art therapy (TFAT) intervention. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: A mixed-methods multiple-baseline single-case experimental design will be condu

Psychological Mechanisms Mediating Effects Between Trauma and Psychotic Symptoms: The Role of Affect Regulation, Intrusive Trauma Memory, Beliefs, and Depression.

Evidence suggests a causal role for trauma in psychosis, particularly for childhood victimization. However, the establishment of underlying trauma-related mechanisms would strengthen the causal argument. In a sample of people with relapsing psychosis (n = 228), we tested hypothesized mechanisms specifically related to impaired affect regulation, intrusive trauma memory, beliefs, and depression. The majority of participants (74.1%) reported victimization trauma, and a fifth (21.5%) met symptomatic criteria for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. We found a specific link between childhood sexual abus

Trauma-informed psychological support alongside long-acting injectable buprenorphine: clients' perspectives on the Buvidal psychological support service (BPSS) pilot in Wales.

BACKGROUND: Opioid use disorder (OUD) is associated with persistent drug use, high relapse rates, and significant morbidity, mortality, and psychosocial harm. While Long-Acting Injectable Buprenorphine (LAIB), marketed as Buvidal, offers improved pharmacological management over traditional opioid substitution therapy (OST), the mental clarity provided by LAIB often surfaces unresolved trauma and mental health needs. Integrating trauma-informed psychological care alongside pharmacological intervention is increasingly recognized as critical to optimize recovery outcomes for individuals with co-o

Psychological effects of trauma, negative and positive coping, resilience, and psychological distress among Chinese healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

BACKGROUND: Limited data are available on risk (psychological effects of trauma, negative coping) and protective (resilience, positive coping) factors for psychological distress among Chinese healthcare workers (HCWs) during the pandemic. Thus, this study investigated the: (1) association between both the psychological effects of trauma and negative coping and psychological distress; and (2) moderating effects of resilience and positive coping on these associations. METHODS: Participants (n = 196; M age = 32.8; SD age = 7.5; 77% female) from two hospitals in China completed self-report measur

The role of childhood trauma and stress reactivity for increased alcohol craving after induced psychological trauma: an experimental analogue study.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic events are associated with alcohol use problems with increased alcohol craving as a potential mediator. There is still a lack of knowledge regarding the causal nature of this association and its underlying mechanisms. This study investigated the effects of acute trauma exposure on alcohol craving in healthy individuals considering the role of stress reactivity and childhood trauma (CT) using a laboratory randomized controlled design. METHODS: Ninety-five healthy participants were randomly exposed to a trauma or a neutral film. History of CT, and pre- to post-film changes

Biological treatments for co-occurring eating disorders and psychological trauma: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Many people with eating disorders report having experienced childhood maltreatment or a traumatic event prior to developing an eating disorder. Although many people with eating disorders have significant traumatic exposure or symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, very little research has examined the effects of combined treatments for this group. The purpose of this systematic review was to synthesize all existing research on biological treatments for those with eating disorders and psychological trauma, evaluate their safety, and identify future areas of research in this a

Trauma, Power, and Psychological Safety: Understanding the Mental Health Impact of Workplace Bullying.

BACKGROUND: Workplace bullying, harassment and sexual abuse cause psychological harm, and can pose a significant threat to the success of an organization as well. This type of violence in the workplace, comprising negative actions and often abuse of power, can lead to trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD and in severe cases, suicide. These acts impact workplace performance, negatively impact psychological safety and lead to high turnover and loss of productivity in an organization. OBJECTIVES: This narrative review outlines the key concepts of bullying, its impact on the individual, and the ways

Neighborhood Resources Associated With Psychological Trajectories and Neural Reactivity to Reward After Trauma.

IMPORTANCE: Research on resilience after trauma has often focused on individual-level factors (eg, ability to cope with adversity) and overlooked influential neighborhood-level factors that may help mitigate the development of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether an interaction between residential greenspace and self-reported individual resources was associated with a resilient PTSD trajectory (ie, low/no symptoms) and to test if the association between greenspace and PTSD trajectory was mediated by neural reactivity to reward. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIP

World Trade Center psychological exposures and trauma related disorders: PTSD and adjustment disorders.

The relationship between exposure to the World Trade Center (WTC) disaster and elevated rates of trauma related psychiatric illnesses in 9/11 responders and survivors has been well documented. This paper is part of a series to promote the practice of evidence-based medicine when managing persons with WTC-related conditions and focuses on "Trauma and Stressor Related Disorders," a diagnostic category that includes posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and adjustment disorder. It offers background on 9/11-related trauma exposure, a summary of research findings from this cohort, and is followed by

Measuring psychological change after trauma: Psychometric properties of a new bi-directional scale.

OBJECTIVE: The current scientific measures of posttraumatic changes in the wake of major stressors have mostly been unidirectional. This study is an attempt to develop a scale that will capture the continuum of positive to negative psychological changes after trauma. METHOD: Forty-five statements were presented to a veteran sample (N = 4,053) with the request to report for each item their experiences of negative, positive, or no posttraumatic changes as a result of their deployment to Afghanistan. RESULTS: Principal component analysis brought out 4 dimensions; 26 nonoverlapping items that ha
