Evidence-based individual psychotherapy for complex posttraumatic stress disorder and at-risk groups for complex traumatization: A meta-review.

BACKGROUND: The current meta-review of meta-analyses on psychotherapy research for complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) and samples at risk of complex traumatization has three aims: first, to provide an overview of efficacy of individual psychotherapies; second, to compare the quality of the meta-analyses; and third, to assess statistical power. METHODS: The literature search was conducted until August 2020. Meta-analyses providing individual treatment effect estimates focusing on CPTSD or samples at risk of complex traumatization (i.e., victims of childhood sexual abuse (CSA), war

[Characteristics of the autonomic nervous system tests during group psychotherapy of patients with opioid dependence at the stage of induction of remission].

The time-course of changes in vegetative tests was studied in 47 men suffering from stage II opium dependence. The patients' age ranged from 18 to 28 years, with the dependence standing amounting to 1-10 years. Use was made of cardiointervalography to define the vegetative tone, as well as of the vagal and adrenaline tests to explore vegetative responsiveness. The orthostatic test was employed for studying vegetative maintenance of the activity. A group of patients (n = 22) was distinguished, with a positive attitude towards treatment and experienced in group psychotherapy, as was a group of p

A mechanism-based group psychotherapy approach to aggressive behavior (MAAP) in borderline personality disorder: a multicenter randomized controlled clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: High levels of trait anger and aggressive behavior are common and problematic phenomena in patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD). In BPD, patterns of reactive aggression often lead to functional impairment affecting important areas of life. Despite the high burden on individuals and their social environment, there are no specific, cost-effective treatments to reduce aggression in BPD. In previous studies, we and others have been able to infer specific biobehavioral mechanisms underlying patterns of reactive aggression in BPD that can be used as potential treatment tar

A virtual mother-infant postpartum psychotherapy group for mothers with a history of adverse childhood experiences: open-label feasibility study.

OBJECTIVES: Mothers with a history of adverse childhood experiences (ACE) are at elevated risk for postpartum mental illness and impairment in the mother-infant relationship. Interventions attending to maternal-infant interactions may improve outcomes for these parents and their children, but barriers to accessing in-person postpartum care limit uptake. We adapted a postpartum psychotherapy group for mothers with mental illness (e.g., mood, anxiety, trauma-related disorders) and ACE for live video-based delivery, and evaluated feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy in an open-lab

Extent of therapeutic support in Positive Psychotherapy: A randomized comparative efficacy study for the treatment of anxiety disorders in an online group setting.

OBJECTIVE: Positive Psychotherapy (PPT) is increasingly being studied as a potential treatment option for psychological diseases. In recent years the internet has been incorporated into traditional face-to-face therapy which, if successful in its treatment outcome, could lead to a more economic and affordable therapy since a certain proportion of therapy could be done without real-time therapist contact. The aim of this study is to investigate whether significant differences in outcome are found when comparing the effectiveness of PPT with complete therapeutic support (cPPT) in treating anxiet

Positive psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy in anxiety patients - A study protocol for a randomized control trial in an online group setting.

BACKGROUND: Anxiety disorders are common and debilitating which is why treatment is so important. According to the guidelines, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has the highest level of effectiveness among psychotherapeutic treatments and is the recommended procedure. However, not everyone responds well or at all to CBT which makes a wider range of therapy options valuable. Positive Psychotherapy (PPT) comes to mind as an alternative with its strength-based approach focusing on enhancing well-being and life satisfaction. Additionally, it has not yet been extensively studied how the processes

SCL-90-R symptom profile clusters among inpatients undergoing psychodynamic group psychotherapy: cluster stability, associations with clinical characteristics and treatment outcome.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Based on pretreatment psychopathological symptoms measured with the Symptom Checklist 90 Revised (SCL-90-R), this study investigated whether stable symptom clusters exist among psychotherapy inpatients. Furthermore, it was examined whether the identified clusters would differ with respect to clinical characteristics and treatment outcome. SAMPLING AND METHODS: We collected data from a total of 3,688 psychotherapeutic inpatients involved in psychodynamic group psychotherapy from 10 hospitals. Ipsatized SCL-90-R presymptom data were used as input variables for a series of clust

Depth-oriented group psychotherapy for moral injury with military veterans: relational psychoanalytic and psychodynamic theory, mechanisms of action, and clinical implications.

Some veterans are haunted by memories of action they have taken or betrayals they have experienced that violated deeply held moral beliefs; these experiences can lead to moral injury. We have developed a depth-oriented group psychotherapy for U.S. combat veterans, to address moral injury. Depth psychotherapy is an evidence-based form of psychoanalysis; the treatment we have developed is based on Relational psychoanalysis. The aim is for the group members to each develop an organized narrative about morally injurious events and their impact on their current lives to facilitate psychosocial reco

Interpersonal vs. supportive group psychotherapy for depression attributed to work stress: study protocol of the multicentre, cluster-randomised, controlled IPT-Work trial.

BACKGROUND: Depression associated with occupational stress is highly prevalent, causing high rates of sick leave and thus posing significant societal and economic burden. Meta-analyses of the few studies on psychological and work-focused interventions for common mental disorders including depression report small effects on depressive symptomatology and occupational outcomes. There is an urgent need for more controlled studies on work-directed interventions assessing work outcomes. METHODS: This is an interventional, multicentre, active-controlled, cluster-randomised, observer-blinded clinical

Feedback versus no feedback in improving patient outcome in group psychotherapy for eating disorders (F-EAT): protocol for a randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Continuous feedback on patient improvement and the therapeutic alliance may reduce the number of dropouts and increase patient outcome. There are, however, only three published randomized trials on the effect of feedback on the treatment of eating disorders, showing inconclusive results, and there are no randomized trials on the effect of feedback in group therapy. Accordingly the current randomized clinical trial, initiated in September 2012 at the outpatient clinic for eating disorders at Stolpegaard Psychotherapy Centre, aims to investigate the impact of continuous feedback on a

Psilocybin-assisted group psychotherapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction for frontline healthcare provider COVID-19-related depression and burnout: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Depression and burnout, which are common among healthcare workers, were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and psilocybin have been reported to reduce depressive symptoms, but the efficacy of the combination requires comparison to an active treatment control. We sought to evaluate the safety and preliminary efficacy of psilocybin and MBSR versus MBSR alone for frontline healthcare providers with symptoms of depression and burnout related to the COVID-19 pandemic. We hypothesized that psilocybin would augment the antidepressant effects of

Empowering people with acquired brain injury to master their well-being: a thematic analysis of participant experience of an 8-week positive psychotherapy group.

PURPOSE: Despite lifelong challenges, people with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) can live meaningful and fulfilling lives. Advancements in well-being science and positive psychology (PP), have shifted focus from reducing illbeing to fostering promoting, defined as striving towards excellence based on one's unique potential. These developments make well-being an achievable goal for those with chronic conditions. Whilst emerging evidence suggests that PP techniques can enhance well-being in ABI populations, wide-spread application remains limited and unmet psychological and social needs continue. T

A randomized controlled trial on the efficacy of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy and a group version of cognitive behavioral analysis system of psychotherapy for chronically depressed patients.

OBJECTIVE: Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) has recently been proposed as a treatment option for chronic depression. The cognitive behavioral analysis system of psychotherapy (CBASP) is the only approach specifically developed to date for the treatment of chronically depressed patients. The efficacy of MBCT plus treatment-as-usual (TAU), and CBASP (group version) plus TAU, was compared to TAU alone in a prospective, bicenter, randomized controlled trial. METHOD: One hundred and six patients with a current DSM-IV defined major depressive episode and persistent depressive symptoms for
