Infectious pubic symphysitis is a rare form of osteomyelitis, typically occurring after pelvic or urological surgery. We report the case of a 60-year-old man who developed acute pubic symphysitis following transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) for benign prostatic hyperplasia. He presented with severe pelvic pain, fever, and gait difficulty. MRI revealed bone marrow edema of the pubic symphysis, and urine culture identified Proteus mirabilis. The patient was treated successfully with a 6 week antibiotic course, including 2 weeks of intravenous ceftriaxone followed by oral therapy, res

Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is a congenital disorder of bone development characterized by persistently open or delayed closure of cranial sutures and wormian bones, hypoplastic and/or aplastic clavicles, wide pubic symphysis, dental anomalies and short stature. The condition is inherited as an autosomal-dominant trait and the human CBFA1 gene has been identified as the CCD gene. We describe a prenatal form of the skeletal disorder that included clavicular hypoplasia, absence of ossification of the cranial parietal bones and very poor ossification of the frontal and pubic bones. Growth restri

PURPOSE: We report our clinical experience with anterior diagonal iliac osteotomy in 10 patients who underwent surgery for bladder exstrophy. Technique and long-term results are discussed.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 10 boys 1 month to 9 years old with bladder exstrophy underwent this procedure during a 2-year period.
RESULTS: None of the patients had bladder closure dehiscence or prolapse after the operation. There were neither infectious complications nor injury to the vessels or nerves in any case. Blood loss was minimal for anterior diagonal iliac osteotomy. The only significant co

BACKGROUND: Failure of fixation (FF) in pubic symphysis diastasis (SD) ranges between 12 and 75%, though whether it influences functional outcomes is still debated. The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of anterior pelvic plate failure and loss of reduction on Majeed's functional scores.
METHODS: Single center retrospective review of consecutive patients with acute SD treated by means of anterior pubic plating. Thirty-seven patients with a mean age 45.7 ± 14.4 years were included. Demographics, AO classification, pelvic fixation and secondary procedures were recorded. Majeed's

Desmoid tumors of the female pelvis are rare. The efficacy of the available treatment modalities in improving survival and decreasing recurrence remains controversial. A 32-year-old woman presented with an asymptomatic large ischeorectal mass. Computed tomography scan revealed a large tumor adherent to the pubic bone and impinging on the bladder neck and the rectum. Aggressive surgical removal of the mass including partial osteotomy of the pubic bone was followed by radiotherapy. The patient is still alive 6 years later with no evidence of disease. Aggressive surgical management followed by ra

Pubic symphysis sclerosis is a very interesting event in psoriatic arthritis (PsA). PsA is a cronical arthritis, associated with psoriasis, classified with seronegative spondyloarthrities. There are 5 clinical PsA patterns: an oligoarticular pattern, characterized by asymmetrical involvement of metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal joints of hands and feet, as well as ankles and knees; a polyarticular pattern; a pattern characterized by involvement of distal interphalangeal joints; an arthritis mutilans pattern, characterized by acro-osteolysis of distal phalanxes; a pattern with spondylitic

INTRODUCTION: pain in the pubic symphysis, even if studied in athletes, still sets out diagnostic and therapeutic challenges in other patient groups. Within this context, refractory osteorthritis of the pubic symphysis presents itself as an issue lacking clear therapeutic consensus.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: two women over 65 years old and presenting osteoarthritis of the pubic symphysis were evaluated. Following unsuccessful conventional therapies, arthrodesis via subpubic plate, wire suture and autologous graft from the iliac crest was performed.
RESULTS: after a one-year of following, both pa

SYNOPSIS: Pubic-related groin pain is one of the least common clinical entities of groin pain in athletes. However, it can cause persistent and long-standing pain. In this Viewpoint, we summarize the current state of knowledge regarding terminology, underlying pathology and diagnosis, and imaging findings for pubic-related groin pain. We share new perspectives on the clinical presentation, sex-related differences, examination, the role of diagnostic imaging, and how examination findings may direct management. Enthesitis related arthritis (ERA) is a specific type of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and ERA typically begins with enthesitis and peripheral arthritis in the lower extremities, progressing later in the disease to sacroiliitis and spinal involvement. The condition has a strong relationship with the HLA-B27 and primarily affects boys between the ages of 13 and 16 years. We describe an unusual presentation of ERA in a young boy with pubic pain and fever, describing its quintessential magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings. A child presented to the paediatric outpatient department with

OBJECTIVE: To assess the success of robot-assisted holmium laser debridement of the pubic symphysis for osteomyelitis of the pubic symphysis with associated urosymphyseal fistula. Traditionally, excision of the fistulous tract and concomitant cystectomy with urinary diversion and pubic symphyseal debridement has been done using an open approach. This paper presents patients who were successfully managed with this approach.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: Between January 2007 and January 2018, all patients who underwent pubic symphyseal debridement with or without cystectomy were identified. We reviewe

OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate with radiographic imaging the association between pubic stress injury and sacroiliac abnormalities in athletes.
DESIGN AND PATIENTS: Eleven athletes (9 men and 2 women), comprising seven male long-distance runners, one male soccer player, one male and two female basketball players, were imaged with plain films for complaints of pubic symphysis pain, sciatica, groin pain, or a combination of these complaints. In addition to the plain films, four patients were imaged with CT, two patients had MR imaging, and a bone scan was performed in three patients. Anteroposterior

BACKGROUND: Locked pubic symphysis or overlapping symphysis is a rare injury which happens when a pubic bone displaces behind the contra lateral pubic rami. It usually arises from lateral compression injuries. In this case report, we try to share our experience on the operative fixation of locked pubic symphysis and concomitant ipsilateral acetabular fracture.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 24-year-old male patient presented after a road traffic accident with lateral compression injury to the pelvis. He was found to have locked pubic symphysis, right side transverse acetabular, and right side closed ti

A serious uro-obstetric emergency is the concurrent rupture of the uterine and urine bladder following a protracted difficult delivery. In the absence of circumstances that would make the bladder more likely to cling to the lower uterine segment, the involvement of the urinary bladder in a primigravida is unique and relatively infrequent. We discuss a case of a 21-year-old patient who had an obstructed labor complicated with bladder and vaginal injury. At laparotomy, we found a pubic bone diastasis, a vaginal injury, and a bladder injury at the urethrovesical junction. As a result, bladder nec

BACKGROUND: Abdominal and pelvic closure remains a challenge during bladder exstrophy initial repair. We aimed to report on the feasibility and results of a novel technique of bilateral obturator osteotomy.
METHODS: Retrospective study of prospective collected data of children who underwent single-stage delayed bladder exstrophy closure combined with RSTM (Radical Soft Tissue Mobilization) for BEEC (Bladder Exstrophy Epispadias Complex) by the same team at different institutions between December 2017 and May 2021. When pubic approximation was not feasible at the end of the procedure, bilatera

BACKGROUND: Osteitis pubis is characterized by diffuse pain, inflammation, and bony changes in the pubic symphysis. Bone marrow edema in magnetic resonance imaging is associated with stress injury and osteitis of the pubic bone.
HYPOTHESIS: Laparoscopic mesh repair decreases inflammation and pain in the pubic periosteum. The presence of extensive bone marrow edema may correlate with the severity of symptoms and may guide the surgical treatment of osteitis pubis.
STUDY DESIGN: Case control study; Level of evidence, 4.
METHODS: Surgery (n = 8) was performed by placement of totally extraperito

Aneurysmal bone cyst is a benign usually expansile, solitary lytic lesion of bone; with blood filled cystic cavities, which tend to grow eccentrically. Such eccentric growth may, on occasion, attain considerable size before it is clinically recognized, particularly if the tumor arises in a deeply situated bone. Aneurysmal bone cyst of pubis is a rare entity. In the following case report, an aneurysmal bone cyst, originating from the superior pubic ramus, expanded into the groin and first manifested itself as a gradually increasing fullness in groin and pain especially with weight bearing. The

Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder of membranous bones with characteristic radio-morphological manifestations. There is disordered ossification of the skull vault and the clavicle, leading to a wide-open anterior fontanelle, frontal bossing, persistent metopic suture, multiple wormian bones, and hypermobile shoulders. Other features are absent nasal bones, the presence of supernumerary teeth, absent ossification of the pubic rami causing pseudo-widening of the pubic symphysis, pseudo-epiphyses of metacarpals and metatarsals, short distal phalanges, and a bell-s
