[Decisive factors in the indication for pulp and peridontal treatment].

The explanation of the goal of pulp-periodontium treatment is followed by guidelines concerning the indication for the methods of pulp preservation (indirect capping, direct capping, pulpitis treatment by means of anaesthetics), of partial pulp preservation (vital amputation) and for pulpectomy (vital and non-vital techniques). The different passages of the paper terminate with conclusions for practice.

Spontaneous alignment of permanent successors after enucleation of odontogenic cysts associated with primary teeth.

Pulpotomy and pulpectomy occasionally lead to cyst formation in the primary dentition. They show specific clinical features of large size, rapid growth, buccal expansion and displacement of permanent teeth. Complete enucleation of the cyst with extraction of the associated primary teeth and preservation of the permanent teeth appeared to be the most suitable treatment option. Normal alignment of the permanent teeth occurred spontaneously even their initial positions were highly unfavourable.

Resorption of a calcium hydroxide/iodoform paste (Vitapex) in root canal therapy for primary teeth: a case report.

This case report presents a clinical and radiographic follow-up (38 months) of pulpectomy treatment performed on maxillary primary anterior teeth using Vitapex. Vitapex was resorbed extraradicularly and intraradicularly without apparent ill effect, and proved to be clinically and radiographically successful. The present case report illustrates that even if the paste resorbs within the canals, the clinical and radiographical outcome is excellent. A longer follow-up is recommended to evaluate if there is any effect on the permanent succedaneous tooth.

Endodontic therapy of traumatized incisors with crown and transverse intra-alveolar root fractures.

A case involving traumatic injury to the maxillary anterior teeth with crown and transverse intra-alveolar root fractures is reported. The patient did not seek immediate treatment after trauma. Treatment included pulpectomy, fixation of a fractured root, root canal obturation, endodontic therapy of the coronal segment, and postoperative observation. Follow-up showed good results. Thus effective nonsurgical endodontic therapy of traumatized anterior teeth can result in a good prognosis in cases involving crown and intra-alveolar root fractures.

Meningitis with septic shock resulting from odontogenic infection misdiagnosed as closed-lock in temporomandibular disorder: A case report and literature review.

RATIONALE: Infections that spread to the pterygomandibular muscle can be misdiagnosed as temporomandibular disorder (TMD) because of the resulting difficulty in opening the mouth. Importantly, infection of the pterygomandibular space can extend to the skull base in the early stages, and a delay in therapeutic intervention can lead to severe complications. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 77-year-old Japanese man with trismus after pulpectomy was referred to our department. This case report describes a rare instance of meningitis with septic shock caused by an odontogenic infection, initially misdiagnosed
