Comprehensive survey of dissociative photoionization of quinoline by PEPICO experiments.

Dissociative photoionization of quinoline induced by vacuum ultraviolet radiation is investigated using photoelectron-photoion coincidence spectroscopy. Branching ratios of all the detectable fragment ions are measured as a function of internal energy ranging from 2 to 30 eV. A specific generation hierarchy is observed in the breakdown curves of a set of dissociation channels. Moreover, a careful comparison of the breakdown curves of fragments among the successive generations allowed to establish a decay sequence in the fragmentation of quinoline cation. This enabled us to revisit and refine t

Ruthenacarborane and Quinoline: A Promising Combination for the Treatment of Brain Tumors.

Gliomas and glioblastomas are very aggressive forms of brain tumors, prone to the development of a multitude of resistance mechanisms to therapeutic treatments, including cytoprotective autophagy. In this work, we investigated the role and mechanism of action of the combination of a ruthenacarborane derivative with 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ), linked via an ester bond (complex 2), in rat astrocytoma C6 and human glioma U251 cells, in comparison with the two compounds alone, i.e., the free carboxylic acid (complex 1) and 8-HQ, and their non-covalent combination ([1 + 8-HQ], in 1:1 molar ratio). Recent update on antibacterial and antifungal activity of quinoline scaffolds.

Although most of the heterocycles have been reported to possess a significant pharmacological activity, only a few of them, namely quinoline derivatives, have exhibited the finest biological activities. Despite the few medicinal properties of the plain quinoline molecule, its derivatives exhibit diverse pharmacological properties such as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antiprotozoal activities, and so on. The potential antimicrobial properties of the quinoline derivatives are evident from the decades of research on these derivatives. Owing to limitations li

Rapid and Efficient Microwave-Assisted Friedländer Quinoline Synthesis.

A microwave-based methodology facilitates reaction of 2-aminophenylketones with cyclic ketones to form a quinoline scaffold. Syntheses of amido- and amino-linked 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 3 inhibitors with a benzophenone-linked motif were pursued using 2-aminobenzophenone as building block. Two amido-linked targets were achieved in modest yield, but when using microwave-assisted reductive amination for the amino-linked counterparts an unexpected product was observed. X-ray crystallography revealed it as a quinoline derivative, leading to optimisation of a simple and efficient modif

Synthesis and Photophysical Properties of a Series of Dimeric Indium Quinolinates.

A novel class of quinolinol-based dimeric indium complexes (1-6) was synthesized and characterized using 1H and 13C(1H) NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Compounds 1-6 exhibited typical low-energy absorption bands assignable to quinolinol-centered π-π* charge transfer (CT) transition. The emission spectra of 1-6 exhibited slight bathochromic shifts with increasing solvent polarity (p-xylene < tetrahydrofuran (THF) < dichloromethane (DCM)). The emission bands also showed a gradual redshift, with an increase in the electron-donating effect of substituents at the C5 position of the quinoli

A Review on Quinoline Derived Scaffolds as Anti-HIV Agents.

After restricting the proliferation of CD4+T cells, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), infection persists at a very fast rate causing Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). This demands the vigorous need of suitable anti-HIV agents, as existing medicines do not provide a complete cure and exhibit drawbacks like toxicities, drug resistance, side-effects, etc. Even the introduction of Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) failed to combat HIV/AIDS completely. The major breakthrough in anti-HIV discovery was marked with the discovery of raltegravir in 2007, the first integrase (IN) in

The potential of quinoline derivatives for the treatment of Toxoplasma gondii infection.

Here we reported our investigation, as part of our drug repositioning effort, on anti-Toxoplasma properties of newly synthesized quinoline compounds. A collection of 4-aminoquinoline and 4-piperazinylquinoline analogs have recently been synthesized for use in cancer chemotherapy. Some analogs were able to outperform chloroquine, a quinoline derivative drug which is commonly used in the treatment of malaria and other parasitic infections. Herein 58 compounds containing one or two quinoline rings were examined for their effectiveness as potential anti-Toxoplasma compounds. Of these 58 compounds,

Neurotoxicity of quinolinic acid to spiral ganglion cells in rats.

Our study investigated the neurotoxicity of quinolinic acid (QA) to spiral ganglion cells (SGCs), observed the protective effects of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist MK-801 and magnesium ions on the QA-induced injury to SGCs, and analyzed the role of QA in otitis media with effusion (OME)-induced sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). After culture in vitro for 72 h, SGCs were exposed to different media and divided into 4 groups: the blank control group, the QA injury group, the MK-801 treatment group, and the MgCl2 protection group. The apoptosis rate of SGCs was analyzed by Annexi

Benzyl-chloridobis(quinolin-8-olato)tin(IV).

In the title compound, [Sn(C(7)H(7))(C(9)H(6)NO)(2)Cl], the Sn(IV) ion is in a distorted octa-hedral coordination environment formed by the O and N atoms of two bis-chelating quinolin-8-olate ligands, a Cl atom and a C atom from a benzyl ligand. The axial sites are occupied by an N atom of a quinolinate ligand and the C atom of the benzyl ligand. The axial Sn-N bond is slightly shorter than the equatorial Sn-N bond.

Contribution of quinolinic acid in the development of anemia in renal insufficiency.

Quinolinic acid (QA) is a potent endogenous excitotoxin; elevation of its concentration in an organism has been implicated in the pathogenesis of various disorders. The purpose of this study was the assessment of QA impact on the process of erythropoiesis. Marked increase of QA concentration was observed in plasma and peripheral tissues of uremic rats. These changes were proportional to the amount of the removed renal tissue and positively correlated with the concentration of creatinine but negatively correlated with hematological parameters, i.e., hematocrit and Hb red blood cells count. Germyl Radical Cyclization of N-Propargyl Aromatic Amines with Germanes: A Concise Route to Germanium-Containing Quinolines.

Quinolines represent a privileged class of heterocyclic scaffolds widely prevalent in biologically active natural products and marketed pharmaceuticals. Despite their significance, the synthesis of germanium-substituted quinolines through germyl radical cyclization has remained unexplored to date. Herein, we report a dilauroyl peroxide (LPO)-mediated cascade protocol involving germylation, cyclization, and aromatization of N-propargyl aromatic amines with germanes, enabling efficient construction of 3-germanium-substituted quinolines. This transformation proceeds via a radical pathway and feat

3D-QSAR, molecular docking, simulation dynamic and ADMET studies on new quinolines derivatives against colorectal carcinoma activity.

Cancer is the uncontrolled spread of abnormal cells that results in abnormal tissue growth in the affected organ. One of the most important organs is exposed to the growth of colon cancer cells, which start in the large intestine (colon) or the rectum. Several therapeutic protocols were used to treat different kinds of cancer. Recently, several studies have targeted tubulin and microtubules due to their remarkable prefoliation. Also, recent research shows that quinoline compounds have significant efficacy against human colorectal cancer. So, the present work investigated the potential of thirt

A Cascade Annulation for the Synthesis of 11H-Indolo[3,2-c]quinolines and In Vitro Anti-Inflammatory Assays.

An efficient one-pot cascade annulation strategy to construct 11H-indolo[3,2-c]quinoline derivatives was reported under iodine/zinc acetate catalysis, using diarylalkynes and 2-bromoacetophenones, acetophenones, or methyl-containing carbon sources as starting materials (acting as both synthon and solvent). A series of target products were afforded in moderate to excellent yields. Preliminary biological evaluation revealed that several synthesized compounds exhibit significant anti-inflammatory activity in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. In particular, compound 3h displayed potent inhibition of

Exploring the effect of copper on the bioactivity of 8-quinolines: an in vitro and in vivo study.

Current anticancer therapy is challenged by the adaptability and resistance of tumor cells as well as limited drug selectivity that causes severe side effects. The scientific community maintains high interest in metal-based chemotherapeutic agents due to their unique interactions with cancer cells, potentially overcoming resistance mechanisms and exploiting the physiopathology of the tumour tissues. Copper, in particular, plays a dual role in cancer, both facilitating tumor progression and triggering cuproptosis, a copper-induced cell death mechanism. A better understanding of these processes
