A 67-year-old man underwent laparotomy for a ruptured aneurysm of the abdominal aorta. Postoperatively he was treated with haemodialysis because of perioperatively developed acute renal failure. Hyperkalaemia was temporarily treated with sodium polystyrene sulfonate (Resonium A) after which he lost blood per rectum. A hemicolectomy was necessary because of intractable blood loss due to ulceration of the colon. This complication is related to uraemia and the use of sodium polystyrene sulfonate with or without sorbitol.

Until now allergic contact dermatitis to polychloroprene glues was thought to be caused by uncondensed p-tert.-butylphenol (monomer) or by the p-tert. burylphenol formaldehyde resin molecule (polycondensate) as allergens. This opinion could not be verified. Acridine ligand affinity chromatography is an effective means of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) purification. However, the synthesis of these resins is laborious and expensive. We have developed an acridine ligand affinity resin that is easy to produce, inexpensive, and selective for AChE over butyrylcholinesterase. The resin is produced in a single synthetic step by attaching the aminoacridine tacrine to epoxy-activated Sepharose. Lichen planus (LP) is one of the few conditions that may cause permanent and debilitating nail loss. Recurrence is common despite treatment with first-line therapies including intralesional and systemic corticosteroids.
