A 26-year-old man with sex-linked juvenile central and peripheral retinoschisis showed on fluorescein angiography an avascular lower temporal periphery, bordered at the central side by abnormal capillaries in a dendrite-like structure. In dominant exudative vitreoretinopathy an identical picture without schisis can be seen in the periphery. This feature seems to be a rare phenomenon in sex-linked juvenile retinoschisis. However, routine peripheral ophthalmoscopy and fluorescein angiography (especially inferotemporal) may reveal more cases.

We report a family with X-linked juvenile retinoschisis. In addition to the three males with severe visual impairment, six other males in this family were found to have hitherto undiagnosed disease. The findings in these mildly affected males are described in detail. The wide range of clinical manifestations found among the affected relatives initially hampered recognition of the correct diagnosis. Once the correct diagnosis was made, proper genetic counselling could be given. The data are compatible with loose linkage between the loci for juvenile retinoschisis and the red cell antigen marker

PURPOSE: Prospective evaluation of patients with X-linked retinoschisis (XLRS).
METHODS: Fifty-six males XLRS patients, age ≥7 years, had retinal structure and function tests performed every 6 months during an 18-month period.
RESULTS: Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was abnormal (mean ± SD logMAR 0.57 ± 0.32 OD and 0.50 ± 0.27 OS), with weak correlation between visual acuity and age (R = -0.24, P = 0.0095). Mean cyst cavity volume (CCV) determined on optical coherence tomography showed weak correlation with age (R = -0.33, P = 0.0009) and no correlation with visual acuity. Subjects had

Objective: To study the ultrasonographic characteristics of pathologic myopia posterior staphyloma and the relation with retinoschisis. Methods: Retrospective case series study. Eighty-seven eyes of 66 pathologic myopia patients with posterior staphyloma were included. Staphyloma morphology and anteroposterior axis of the eyeball were observed by B-scan ultrasonography. Optical coherence tomography was used to explore the retinoschisis. Results: Arc-shaped (10.35%), cone-shaped (22.99%), wedge-shaped (33.33%) and rectangle-shaped (33.33%) posterior staphylomas were found by B-scan ultrasonogra

PURPOSE: Congenital X-linked retinoschisis (XLRS) has limited treatment options. Gene augmentation via pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) and subretinal RS1 gene delivery is promising, yet it is unclear how PPV may impact outcomes. We explored literature to better understand PPV outcomes in XLRS.
METHODS: A scoping review of PPV in XLRS categorized studies based on surgical indication: PPV for foveal schisis (Category 1) and PPV for other XLRS sequelae, such as retinal detachment (RD) (Category 2). Studies were excluded if they did not report visual and anatomic outcomes, including foveal schisis st

PURPOSE: To characterize and classify different forms of peripapillary retinoschisis (PPRS), and to clarify the nomenclature of this condition.
METHODS: A retrospective, multicenter, multinational case series of PPRS was performed from August 2021 to September 2024. Cases were included if they demonstrated retinoschisis contiguous with and thought to be originating from the optic disc. Demographic and clinical data collected included age, gender, visual acuity, intraocular pressure, axial length, refraction and referring symptoms. Mandatory investigations included optical coherence tomography

SIGNIFICANCE: Peripapillary retinoschisis is associated with primary and secondary glaucoma. It is important that clinicians are familiar with the presentation and management of peripapillary retinoschisis to understand its effects on the patient's glaucoma and to avoid unnecessary referral when the macula is not involved.
PURPOSE: We present a case of peripapillary retinoschisis found incidentally on routine optical coherence tomographic (OCT) surveillance of primary open-angle glaucoma.
CASE REPORT: A 70-year-old man presented for his annual diabetic eye examination. Surveillance with OCT

BACKGROUND: Posterior microphthalmos combined with acquired retinoschisis is a rare entity. This report presents a case of acquired retinoschisis in a patient with posterior microphthalmos and discusses the management for such disease. The patient exhibited acquired peripheral retinal schisis in both eyes.
CASE PRESENTATION: The patient presented with a fix scotoma and decrease in visual acuity for 2 weeks in his left eye. Ocular examination revealed that his best-corrected visual acuity was 0.6 in right eye and 0.2 in left eye. The patient had amblyopia because of hyperopia with spherical eq

We describe a case of maculopathy consisting of macular retinoschisis and serous macular detachment occurring in a patient with an acquired enlarged optic disc cup, similar to the maculopathy observed in congenital optic nerve abnormalities, mainly optic nerve pits and colobomas, without vitreomacular traction nor angiographic leak. Pars plana vitrectomy with argon laser endophotocoagulation and gas tamponade was found to be useful. Traction from membranes covering deep optic disc cups may create small retinal dehiscences, as described in congenital optic nerve abnormalities, which will enable

Two brothers with X-linked retinoschisis were evaluated using optical coherence tomography. Macular cleavage was observed at the inner nuclear layer. Retinal nerve fiber layer loss or detachment was observed outside the macular area, even in areas of clinically normal retina. Macular thickening and cavitation with multiple septa was characteristic, decreasing rapidly from the center toward the macular periphery and being more pronounced in the younger patient. No abnormal vitreomacular relationship or traction over the macular and extramacular schisis areas was observed. Optical coherence tomo

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of peripapillary retinoschisis (PPRS) on circumpapillary and macular retinal thickness and its correlation with longitudinal changes in the visual field.
METHODS: A wide-field scan using swept-source optical coherence tomography was performed to measure the circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (cpRNFL) and macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (mGCIPL) thickness. The relationship between longitudinal measurements of cpRNFL, mGCIPL thickness, and visual field index (VFI) was assessed using repeated-measures correlation. Pearson correlation analys

Purpose: To report a case of myopic macular retinoschisis and full-thickness macular hole (FTMH) that both resolved with topical medical therapy alone. Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed. Results: A patient with myopic retinoschisis with an FTMH and increased symptoms of metamorphopsia was treated with topical medical therapy consisting of 1% prednisolone, 4 times daily, and 0.07% bromfenac, daily. Anatomic changes at 6 weeks included drawing together of the inner retinal edges around the MH and its subsequent closure with marked resolution of the myopic retinoschisis. Conclus
