Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, botryoid variant, is a malignant tumor that usually arises in the urinary bladder and other mucosal sites. This is a case of a 4-year-old girl presenting with a mass initially thought to arise within the urinary bladder. Macroscopic and microscopic examination proved that this botryoid rhabdomyosarcoma had its origin within the left ureter.

OBJECTIVES: To report one case of spermatic cord rabdomyosarcoma in an adult patient.
METHODS: We report the case of a 36-year-old male presenting with a painful left inguinal scrotal mass.
RESULTS: Left radical orchiectomy was performed with excision of the mass. Pathology showed a spermatic cord rabdomyosarcoma. The patient received several cycles of systemic chemotherapy.
CONCLUSIONS: Spermatic cord rabdomyosarcoma is a rare tumor derived from the undifferentiated mesoderm. It rarely appears after the second decade of life. Local-regional recurrence after surgery is very frequent. There

The case of nasopharyngeal rhabdomyosarcoma was presented. 58-years old woman complained of sore throat, dysphagia and temporary hoarseness was treated in Department of Otolaryngology Medical Academy in Warsaw. The nasopharyngeal tumor extended between Rosenmüller's fossa level to base of the tongue, 3x2 cm in size. Because biopsy specimen result was not definite, the tumor was surgical removed wholly. Histopathological diagnosis was: rhabdomyosarcoma embryonic. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy followed surgery. At the present moment, four years after treatment, the patient is without local recur

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine the rhabdomyosarcoma types involving the head and neck (H&N) region in children and their immunophenotype.
DESIGN: Anatomic pathology archives at Texas Children's Hospital were searched for all rhabdomyosarcoma cases over a 20-year period. One-hundred and thirty-seven cases were identified, with 50 being H&N cases. The cases were typed according to the Intergroup Rhabdomyosarcoma Study (IRS) criteria. Immunocytochemistry for myogenic and non-myogenic markers was performed on all H&N cases. Electron micrographs from cases (n=32) where ultra

BACKGROUND: Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a heterogeneous disease consisting of several different histologies arising from a variety of anatomic sites. Approximately half of the children who die of this tumor have failure at the primary site of involvement, making local control an important component of therapy.
PROCEDURE: Published literature and newly analyzed data from the Intergroup Rhabdomyosarcoma Study Group (IRSG) regarding local control of RMS were reviewed. Information regarding the role of various local control modalities for different primary disease sites is presented along with new

BACKGROUND: Rhabdomyosarcoma of the urachus is extremely rare, and only two cases have been reported. Cytologic, histologic, immunochemical and electron microscopic findings in embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the urachus are presented.
CASE: Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the urachus developed in a 2-year-old boy. Imprint smears prepared prior to a histologic examination for a rapid report contained many malignant cells isolated or in clusters in a myxoid background. They were uniformly small, with round to oval nuclei and scant cytoplasm, and immunohistochemically positive for desmin and alpha-

A 22-year-old woman with a history of hyperthyroidism and a paravaginal alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma developed diplopia 3 months after successful autologous bone marrow transplantation. Results of computed tomographic scan showed apparent enlargement of the right inferior rectus muscle, and thyroid eye disease was suspected. However, results of further evaluation revealed an alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma that metastasized to the orbit.

A 7-month-old boy had a giant pigmented lesion involving the trunk and thighs that exhibited many hyperpigmented hairy and verrucous nevi. One of the nevi ulcerated and on histological examination consisted of pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma cells that stained for muscle-specific actin (HHF-35), desmin, and myoglobin. Around the tumor, in the dermis, benign pigmented nevus cells were observed. The occurrence of malignant tumors, other than malignant melanoma, in pigmented nevi is rarely described.

The present paper reports a case of rhabdomyosarcoma in a 4-year-old patient, the rapidity with which it spread and the intensity of its extension bringing the case under observation. It is, in fact, a case of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma localized in the right parotid area with an extension to the temporal fossa, to the epi-oro-hypopharynx as far as the lateral vertebral region with C5-C6 involvement and penetrating the medium cranialis fossa. Initially the child showed signs of tissue growth at the right parotid site, originating without symptoms and rapidly increasing in volume. As explorator

A 53-year-old male Caucasian presented with a massive liver tumor composed entirely of spindle-shaped cells showing light-microscopic and ultrastructural evidence of rhabdomyoblastic differentiation. No epithelial or other sarcomatous elements were included. Detailed postmortem examination failed to reveal evidence of metastatic tumor or an alternative primary site. There have been only four previous cases of primary rhabdomyosarcoma of the adult liver, all occurring in Japanese men.

A generalized ichthyosiform eruption developed in a 13-year-old boy three weeks before presentation with a paravertebral rhabdomyosarcoma. His skin returned to normal shortly after the onset of chemotherapy and remission of the tumor. This case is unusual because the ichthyosis developed acutely, following a generalized urticarial eruption, and also involved the palms and soles.

The main problems in the diagnosis of rhabdomyosarcoma are 1) distinction of undifferentiated examples from other small cell malignancies, especially soft-tissue Ewing's tumor and lymphoma; 2) distinction of spindling examples from fibrosarcoma, leiomyosarcoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma, polyhistioma, and other sarcomas; 3) recognition of minimal criteria on small samples such as needle biopsy specimens or frozen sections; and 4) recognition of rhabdomyosarcoma in uncommon sites such as bone (mandible), perineum, retroperitoneum, and chest. In 95 pediatric cases diagnosed and treated at R

A case initially diagnosed as tricuspid insufficiency in which critical review of the clinical findings pointed to a diagnosis of pulmonary outflow obstruction is described. At necropsy a myocardial rhabdomyosarcoma was found with associated thromboembolism. The cardinal features were the rapid development of a loud systolic murmur, clinical evidence of right ventricular enlargement and failure with large jugular presystolic 'a' waves, and a reduction in the intensity of the pulmonary component of the second sound, a shift in the QRS axis to the right, and an increase in the cardiothoracic rat

A newborn male Holstein calf developed a nodular enlargement at the tip of the tongue. Histopathological examination of the mass revealed predominant proliferating small, round, spindloid or polygonal neoplastic cells with scattered myoblast- and myotube-like cells and multinuclear giant cells. Phosphotungstic acid haematoxylin staining revealed cytoplasmic cross-striations in a few neoplastic cells. Neoplastic cells were immunopositive for vimentin, desmin, myoD1, myogenin, myoglobin and α-smooth muscle actin. The mass was diagnosed as embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma. To the best of our knowledge,

(1) Background: Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in the first two decades of life. One third of cases appear in the head and neck, with 60% of these being embryonal type. RMS is extremely rare in adults, comprising only 1% of adult malignancies, and of those, only 3.3% are rhabdomyosarcomas. (2) Case report: A 46 y.o. male presented with a 1 cm exophytic pediculated painless lesion on the dorsum of his tongue, with progressive growth for 3 months. An excisional biopsy revealed an "embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma with fusocellular areas, with negative rearrangement for g

BACKGROUND: Intracranial rhabdomyosarcomas represent a rare condition, posing a diagnostic challenge to physicians. Brain intraparenchymal rhabdomyosarcomas are exceptionally rare with poorly understood pathogenesis.
METHODS: Here we report the first adult case of intraparenchymal rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) with brainstem and cranial nerve involvement. We conducted a literature search using Embase, MEDLINE, and PubMed for published cases of patients with rhabdomyosarcoma of the brain. The keywords used were 'rhabdomyosarcoma' combined with 'intraparenchymal', 'parenchymal', 'cerebral' or 'brain'
