Confined coordination regulation of rhodium in organosilica active framework for enhanced photothermal-enzymatic diabetic wound healing.

The modulation and alteration of metal coordination structure is intricately associated with their biological activity. However, the precise control of metal active site in a matrix and thereby enhance the biological activity remains a great challenge. Herein, a convenient "reduction-mediated coordination regulation" strategy was proposed to construct novel rhodium-oxygen clusters in confined organosilica active framework ([RhO3]NC-FOMs) with enhanced photothermal-enzymatic properties for efficient and safe diabetic wound healing. Results revealed that coordination structure of Rh in organosil

Spatial construction of rhodium nanocrystals anchored on TiO2-decorated MXene architectures for enhanced photoelectrocatalytic methanol oxidation.

The sluggish kinetics of the methanol oxidation reaction largely hinders the practical application of direct methanol fuel cells, which imposes stringent requirements on anodic catalysts. Herein, we report a rational heterointerface engineering strategy for the spatial construction of a photo-cascade electrocatalyst by in situ anchoring rhodium nanocrystals onto TiO2-decorated Ti3C2Tx MXene (Rh/TiO2-MX) architectures through a combined oxidative etching and solvothermal assembly process. The existence of TiO2 interlayers not only prevents MXene restacking and provides abundant anchoring sites

Imidazolium-Derived Porous Organic Polymer as Robust Platform for Rhodium-Catalyzed N2O Hydrogenation and Alcohol Oxygenation.

The catalytic conversion of nitrous oxide, a potent greenhouse gas and ozone-depleting substance, offers a promising strategy for mitigating emissions but requires efficient catalysts that operate under mild conditions. Here, a porous organic polymer was designed as a functional platform for accommodating built-in catalytic sites. The polymer incorporates rigid 1,3-dimethylbenzimidazolium iodide units as stable precursors to N-heterocyclic carbenes, providing suitable coordination sites to molecular catalysts, high surface area, and chemical robustness. Deprotonating these precursors generates

Homotrinuclear ruthenium(ii) and rhodium(i) complexes of redox-active tris(ferrocenyl)arene-based tris-phosphanes.

Homotrinuclear complexes of the C 3-symmetric tris(ferrocenyl)arene-based tris-phosphanes 1a-d with ruthenium(ii) ([1a-d(Ru)3]) and rhodium(i) ([1a-d(Rh)3]) were prepared and fully characterised. Complexes [1a-d(Ru)3] and [1a-d(Rh)3] are electrochemically active. The nature of the arene core in 1a-d ranging from benzene, 1,3,5-trifluorobenzene and mesitylene to s-triazine allows to fine-tune the exact oxidation potentials for tailoring the electrochemical response. With a BArF 4 --based supporting electrolyte, a distinct separation of the three iron-centred oxidations of the ligand backbone is

Rhodium-Catalyzed Synthesis of Trifluoromethyl-Containing Allylic Alcohols Via Z-Alkenyl Transfer with High Stereochemistry Retention.

Herein, we report the rhodium-catalyzed Z-alkenyl transfer from tertiary allylic alcohols to aryl trifluoromethyl ketones, which provided an efficient way of preparation of trifluoromethyl-containing Z-allylic alcohols via β-Z-alkenyl elimination. The key Z-alkenyl-rhodium species were generated with a high degree of stereochemical retention. This reaction featured a broad substrate scope and good functional tolerance and would offer a fascinating approach for the synthesis of Z-alkenes.

Recyclable Homogeneous Catalysis Enabled by Dynamic Coordination on Rhodium(II) Axial Sites of Metal-Organic Polyhedra.

The activity of catalytic nanoparticles is strongly dependent on their surface chemistry, which controls colloidal stability and substrate diffusion toward catalytic sites. In this work, we studied how the outer surface chemistry of nanostructured Rh(II)-based metal-organic cages or polyhedra (Rh-MOPs) impacts their performance in homogeneous catalysis. Specifically, through post-synthetic coordination of aliphatic imidazole ligands onto the exohedral Rh(II) axial sites of Rh-MOPs, we solubilized a cuboctahedral Rh-MOP in dichloromethane, thereby enabling its use as a homogeneous catalyst. We

Rhodium(III)-catalysed redox neutral alkylation of 3-arylbenzo[d]isoxazoles: easy access to substituted succinimides.

A convenient method for the alkylation of 3-arylbenzo[d]isoxazoles with maleimides under redox-neutral conditions has been developed, giving a series of substituted succinimides in up to 99% yield. This transformation is highly selective to give succinimides, and Heck-type products are successfully avoided. This protocol features 100% atom-economy and broad substrate tolerance, and provides a novel strategy for the synthesis of diverse succinimides and an opportunity for the succinylation of protein medication and for pharmacologists to discover first-in-class drugs.

Cobalt/Rhodium-Catalyzed Diversified Amidation of Benzocyclobutenols via C-C Cleavage under Catalyst and Condition Control.

Cobalt(III) and rhodium(III)-catalyzed regio- and chemoselective amidation of benzocyclobutenols has been realized using dioxazolone as the amidating reagent to afford three classes of C-N-coupled products via β-carbon elimination of the benzocyclobutenol. The Co(III)-catalyzed coupling initially afforded an isolable o-(N-acylamino)arylmethyl ketone, which could further cyclize to the corresponding indole derivatives under condition control. In contrast, efficient stepwise diamidation has been achieved under Rh(III) catalyst control. The chemoselectivities are jointly controlled by the catalys

Synthesis of Cyclopentenones through Rhodium-Catalyzed C-H Annulation of Acrylic Acids with Formaldehyde and Malonates.

An efficient rhodium-catalyzed protocol for the synthesis of cyclopentenones based on a three-component reaction of acrylic acids, formaldehyde, and malonates via vinylic C-H activation is reported. Exploratory studies showed that 5-alkylation of as-prepared cyclopentenones could be realized smoothly by the treatment of a variety of alkyl halides with a Na2CO3/MeOH solution. Excess formaldehyde and malonate led to a multicomponent reaction that afforded the multisubstituted cyclopentenones through a Michael addition.

Preparation and Degradation of Rhodium and Iridium Diolefin Catalysts for the Acceptorless and Base-Free Dehydrogenation of Secondary Alcohols.

Rhodium and iridium diolefin catalysts for the acceptorless and base-free dehydrogenation of secondary alcohols have been prepared, and their degradation has been investigated, during the study of the reactivity of the dimers [M(μ-Cl)(η4-C8H12)]2 (M = Rh (1), Ir (2)) and [M(μ-OH)(η4-C8H12)]2 (M = Rh (3), Ir (4)) with 1,3-bis(6'-methyl-2'-pyridylimino)isoindoline (HBMePHI). Complex 1 reacts with HBMePHI, in dichloromethane, to afford equilibrium mixtures of 1, the mononuclear derivative RhCl(η4-C8H12){κ1-N py-(HBMePHI)} (5), and the binuclear species [RhCl(η4-C8H12)]2{μ-N py,N py-(HBMePHI)} (6)

Lessons learned from studies with the freshwater mussel Dreissena polymorpha exposed to platinum, palladium and rhodium.

The platinum group elements (PGE) platinum, palladium and rhodium gain increasing (eco-)toxicological interest due to their cumulative introduction into ecosystems. So far, most PGE exposure studies investigating biological availability, uptake and bioaccumulation of PGE as well as their effects on different toxicological endpoints were performed under non-standardized conditions which occasionally make an interpretation and comparison of the results difficult. Here we compare the results of different PGE exposure studies with zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha) showing influences due to the

Rhodium-catalyzed oxidative amidation of allylic alcohols and aldehydes: effective conversion of amines and anilines into amides.

The rhodium-catalyzed oxidative amidation of allylic alcohols and aldehydes is reported. In situ generated [(BINAP)Rh]BF4 catalyzes the one-pot isomerization/oxidative amidation of allylic alcohols or direct amidation of aldehydes using acetone or styrene as the hydrogen acceptor. The conditions are general, affording good to excellent yields with a wide array of amine and aniline nucleophiles, and chemoselective, other alcohols do not participate in the oxidation reaction. Utilization of biphasic conditions is critical, as they promote an equilibrium between the imine/enamine byproducts and t

Rhodium-catalyzed oxidative C-H activation/cyclization for the synthesis of phosphaisocoumarins and phosphorous 2-pyrones.

Rhodium-catalyzed cyclization of phosphinic acids and phosphonic monoesters with alkynes has been developed. The oxidative annulation proceeds with complete conversion of phosphinic acid derivatives and allowed the atom-economic preparation of useful phosphaisocoumarins with high yield and selectivity. The reaction is tolerant of extensive substitution on the phosphinic acid, phosphonic monoester and alkyne, including halides, ketone, and hydroxyl groups as substituents. Furthermore, we found that alkenylphosphonic monoesters proceed to give a wide range of phosphorus 2-pyrones through oxidati

Steric tuning of the amidomonophosphane-rhodium(I) catalyst in asymmetric addition of arylboroxines to N-phosphinoyl aldimines.

Highly enantioselective rhodium-catalyzed addition of arylboroxines to N-phosphinoylaldimines was realized by the steric tuning of a diphenylphosphorus moiety to a di(o-tolyl)phosphorus moiety of a chiral amidomonophosphane. The presence of MS 4 A in a 5:1 solvent mixture of dioxane-propanol was essential to afford the corresponding diarylmethylamines in high yield.

Reversible switching of the sol-gel transition with ultrasound in rhodium(I) and iridium(I) coordination networks.

Reversible coordination networks were prepared by combining diphenylphosphinite telechelic polytetrahydrofuran (2) with [RhCl(COD)]2 or [IrCl(COD)]2 in chloroform. Both systems resulted in stable gels at concentrations above 50 and 30 g/L for the rhodium(I) and iridium(I) networks, respectively. The rheological properties of the two coordination networks (100 g/L) were determined with oscillatory shear experiments, which showed that the elastic moduli are constant over a wide frequency range, indicating gel-like behavior; the iridium(I) gel has an elastic modulus distinctly higher (2.8x10(3) P

Rhodium-catalyzed synthesis of Si-stereogenic alkoxysilanes and silyl enol ethers via hydrosilylation of carbonyl compounds.

A highly efficient rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrosilylation of aldehydes, ketones, and α,β-unsaturated ketones with dihydrosilanes is developed, that allows the rapid assembly of a variety of Si-stereogenic alkoxysilanes and silyl enol ethers in good yields and enantioselectivities under mild conditions. The applicability of this methodology was demonstrated by a series of stereospecific transformations to construct diverse Si-stereogenic derivatives.

Ammonia Capture in Rhodium(II)-Based Metal-Organic Polyhedra via Synergistic Coordinative and H-Bonding Interactions.

Ammonia (NH3) is among the world's most widely produced bulk chemicals, given its extensive use in diverse sectors such as agriculture; however, it poses environmental and health risks at low concentrations. Therefore, there is a need for developing new technologies and materials to capture and store ammonia safely. Herein, we report for the first time the use of metal-organic polyhedra (MOPs) as ammonia adsorbents. We evaluated three different rhodium-based MOPs: [Rh2(bdc)2]12 (where bdc is 1,3-benzene dicarboxylate); one functionalized with hydroxyl groups at its outer surface [Rh2(OH-bdc)2]

Enantioselective rhodium-catalyzed addition of arylboronic acids to N-heteroaryl ketones: synthesis of α-hydroxy acids.

The enantioselective addition of arylboronic acids to N-heteroaryl ketones provides a convenient access to chiral α-heteroaryl tertiary alcohols, yet addition reactions of this type have been challenging due to catalyst deactivation. In this report, an efficient rhodium-catalyzed addition of arylboronic acids to N-heteroaryl ketones is established, affording a variety of valuable α-heteroaryl alcohols with excellent functional group compatibility. The employment of the WingPhos ligand containing two anthryl groups is crucial for this transformation. In particular, a range of chiral benzoxazoly
