Suicidal ideations and attempts among adolescents subjected to childhood sexual abuse and family conflict/violence: the mediating role of anger and depressed mood.

Based on a sample of 9085 16- to 19-year-old students attending all high schools in Iceland in 2004, the current study examines depressed mood and anger as potential mediators between family conflict/violence and sexual abuse, on the one hand, and suicidal ideations and suicide attempts on the other. Agnew's general strain theory provides the theoretical framework for the study. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was conducted allowing explicit modelling of both direct and mediating effects using observed and latent variables. The findings showed that both depressed mood and anger mediated th

Generalization of Knee Joint Moment Prediction During Drop Vertical Jumps Under Graded Visuo-Proprioceptive Conflict: The Role of Multijoint Kinematics Across Validation Frameworks.

Accurate estimation of knee joint moment is important for biomechanical monitoring and injury-risk assessment, yet model generalizability under altered sensory environments remains unclear. This study evaluated a support vector regression model for predicting sagittal knee moment during the landing-takeoff cycle of the drop vertical jump (DVJ) under visuo-proprioceptive conflict and examined whether adding hip and ankle kinematics improved performance. Fourteen healthy men performed DVJs under one real and four virtual perturbation conditions with a fixed physical drop height and virtual heigh

The modifying effect of work-care role conflict on the effectiveness of carer support: Results from the Australian Draw Care randomised clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: People who care for a family member with dementia alongside paid work often experience role conflict. This study explores whether work-care role conflict (WCRC) modifies the effectiveness of Draw Care, an online and culturally-adapted carer support intervention. METHODS: Secondary exploratory analysis of a single-blind, parallel-group trial (August 2023-November 2024) that compared Draw Care against waitlist control in adult carers from diverse linguistic backgrounds. To formally test whether WCRC moderated the effect of the Draw-Care intervention, we ran a full-sample linear mixe

Sex-dependent role of the ventral hippocampus, but not its projection to the medial prefrontal cortex, in a novel operant conflict-driven ethanol choice task.

Sex differences in approach-avoidance decision making with sucrose rewards are well documented, with males exhibiting greater conflict approach behavior and females exhibiting greater conflict avoidance. Consistent with this, previous work has shown that approach bias under conflict in males reliably predicts persistent operant ethanol self-administration under punishment. In females, however, heightened vulnerability to ethanol reward-seeking in the face of aversive consequences is observed, despite their tendency to avoid sucrose reward paired with punishment. We sought to further investigat

The Bidirectional Mediation Roles of Depression and Hostile Attribution Bias in the Relationship between Peer Conflict and Adolescents' Cyberbullying Perpetration: A Two-Wave Study.

Previous research has established that the quality of peer relationships significantly impacts adolescents' physical and mental health. However, the relationship between peer conflict and cyberbullying perpetration remains insufficiently explored. Based on the General Aggression Model and the General Strain Theory, this study investigates the mediating role of depression and hostile attribution bias in the relationship between peer conflict and cyberbullying perpetration, as well as the moderating role of gender, aiming to offer a new perspective on understanding adolescent cyberbullying perpe

The Mediation of Care and Overprotection between Parent-Adolescent Conflicts and Adolescents' Psychological Difficulties during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Which Role for Fathers?

BACKGROUND: There is evidence of a significant raise in youths' emotional and behavioral difficulties during the pandemic. Only a few studies have addressed parent-adolescent conflict, and none investigated the possible mediating effect of parenting in the association between conflicts with parents and adolescents' symptoms. This study aimed at investigating youths' psychological symptoms during the pandemic, focusing on the predicting effect of parent-adolescent conflict. The mediating role of care and overprotection was also explored, considering whether adolescent gender moderated this medi

Perceived societal meritocratic climate and self-stigma among adolescents in conflict with the law: the mediating role of collective self-esteem and social disconnection.

INTRODUCTION: This research investigated the relationship between perceived meritocratic climate and self-stigma among adolescents in conflict with the law across two studies. METHODS: Study 1 (N = 322) employed a cross-sectional survey; Study 2 (N = 254) used an experimental manipulation of perceived (non)meritocratic climate. RESULTS: In Study 1, perceived meritocratic climate positively predicted self-stigma, and an exploratory serial mediation via collective self-esteem and social disconnection was observed. In Study 2, the serial mediation was not replicated; instead, the effect was med

Correlation between Vascularity and Advancing Histological Grades of Oral Submucous Fibrosis with a Plausible Role in Malignisation: Systematic review of a persisting matter of conflict.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to quantify the vascularity in histological grades of oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) and to determine if there is any connection between vasculogenesis and malignisation. Recent studies show no significant change in vascularity as the stage advances as opposed to the conventional concept. METHODS: A comprehensive database search until December 2022 was conducted for published articles on vascularity in OSMF following preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses guidelines. RESULTS: A total of 98 articles were screened of which 13 were includ

Effects of alcohol problem discrepancy on relationship adjustment: The moderating role of conflict negotiation among couples with alcohol use disorder and intimate partner violence.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) has well-known negative effects on romantic relationship functioning, including the occurrence of intimate partner violence (IPV). A separate literature focused on community couples indicates that relationship functioning is more likely to suffer when partners report greater discrepancies in alcohol consumption. It is important to expand this literature to couples with AUD and to examine the role of impactful AUD domains in dyadic functioning. Furthermore, few studies have examined adaptive, treatment-malleable factors that could potentially offset the negative impac

When forgetting what happened at work matters: The role of affective rumination, problem-solving pondering, and self-control in work-family conflict and enrichment.

Whether integrating work into home benefits or harms an employee's family role is a critical issue that has met with mixed findings in the extant literature. Work-home integration can be manifested in different ways. Unfortunately, prior research has tended to use global assessments of integration that may mask relationships between different types of integration and work-family outcomes. In 2 studies, the present research takes a step toward a more fine-grained analysis by focusing on the work-family consequences of affective rumination and problem-solving pondering, both of which represent p

Mother-adolescent conflict in African American and European American families: the role of corporal punishment, adolescent aggression, and adolescents' hostile attributions of mothers' intent.

The present study examined mothers' use of corporal punishment and adolescents' aggression as predictors of mother-youth conflict during early adolescence. Particular attention was given to the potential mediating role that adolescents' hostile attributions of intent (HAI) regarding mothers' behavior might play in connections between corporal punishment, youth aggression, and mother-adolescent conflict for European American (EA) and African American (AA) youth. Data were collected from 268 12- to 14-year-olds (154 European American; 114 African American; 133 girls; 135 boys) and their mothers

Interparental conflict, parent psychopathology, hostile parenting, and child antisocial behavior: examining the role of maternal versus paternal influences using a novel genetically sensitive research design.

Past research has linked interparental conflict, parent psychopathology, hostile parenting, and externalizing behavior problems in childhood. However, few studies have examined these relationships while simultaneously allowing the contribution of common genetic factors underlying associations between family- and parent-level variables on child psychopathology to be controlled. Using the attributes of a genetically sensitive in vitro fertilization research design, the present study examined associations among interparental conflict, parents' antisocial behavior problems, parents' anxiety sympto

Work-family conflict in times of crisis: The moderating roles of self-efficacy and time-based spousal support during pandemic-induced remote work.

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the global transition to remote work, requiring working parents to rapidly adapt to home-based arrangements. As work and family boundaries became increasingly blurred, concerns regarding work-family conflict (WFC) intensified. Drawing on Conservation of Resources (COR) Theory, Social Cognitive Theory (SCT), and Asymmetric Boundary Permeability Theory, the present study examined the relationships among time-based spousal support, self-efficacy, work- and family-related time demands, and WFC. Data were collected online from 211 working parents in dual-earner fam

Paternal postnatal depression and child development at age 7 years in a UK-birth cohort: the mediating roles of paternal parenting confidence, warmth, and conflict.

INTRODUCTION: Paternal postnatal depression (PND) and its likely adverse impact on child development are receiving increased attention. However, research that examines processes transmitting risks of paternal PND to adverse child outcomes remains limited. METHODS: This study examines pathways from paternal PND (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale; 8 months) to child emotional and behavioral development (Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire; 7 years) through paternal parenting confidence, warmth, and father-child conflict (birth-4 years) in a UK-based birth cohort, the Avon Longitudinal S

Moderated mediation of the link between parent-adolescent conflict and adolescent risk-taking: The role of physiological regulation and hostile behavior in an experimentally controlled investigation.

Compared to childhood and adulthood, adolescence is a time of greater risk-taking behavior, potentially resulting in serious consequences. Theories of adolescent brain development highlight the imbalance between neural circuitry for reward vs. regulation. Although this imbalance may make adolescents more vulnerable to impaired decision-making in the context of heightened arousal, not all adolescents exhibit problematic risk behavior, suggesting other factors are involved. Relatedly, parent-adolescent conflict increases in mid-adolescence, and is linked to negative outcomes like substance use r
