Diagnosis and management of X-linked hypophosphatemia in dental practice: A scoping review.

X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) is a PHEX-related disorder causing elevated FGF23, chronic hypophosphatemia, and impaired skeletal and dental mineralization, leading to frequent endodontic abscess in clinically sound teeth due to intrinsic structural failure, periapical lesions and early tooth loss. To address the lack of standardized oral management, a comprehensive literature review was conducted using EMBASE, MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane databases (1988-2024), adhering to PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Based on this evidence, multidisciplinary recommendations were developed to provide diag

Objective cough counting in clinical practice and public health: a scoping review.

Quantifying cough can offer value for respiratory disease assessment and monitoring. Traditionally, patient-reported outcomes have provided subjective insights into symptoms. Novel digital cough counting tools now enable objective assessments; however, their integration into clinical practice is limited. The aim of this scoping review was to address this gap in the literature by examining the use of automated and semiautomated cough counting tools in patient care and public health. A systematic search of six databases and preprint servers identified studies published up to Feb 12, 2025. From 6

Attributing non-specific symptoms to cancer in general practice: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Non-specific cancer symptoms are challenging to interpret in general practice. They can be attributed to a wide range of other conditions and delay the cancer diagnosis, increasing the risk of poor outcomes. AIM: To summarise existing knowledge on the attribution of non-specific symptoms to potential cancer in general practice and identify gaps in the literature. METHOD: We conducted a scoping review, following Joanna Briggs Institute's guidance and reported according to the PRISMA for scoping reviews checklist. Non-specific symptoms were defined based on NICE guidelines for susp

Clinical Management of Low Vitamin D: A Scoping Review of Physicians' Practices.

The role of vitamin D in the prevention and treatment of non-skeletal health issues has received significant media and research attention in recent years. Costs associated with clinical management of low vitamin D (LVD) have increased exponentially. However, no clear evidence supports vitamin D screening to improve health outcomes. Authoritative bodies and professional societies do not recommend population-wide vitamin D screening in community-dwelling adults who are asymptomatic or at low risk of LVD. To assess patterns of physicians’ management of LVD in this conflicting environment, we cond

Fasting-induced headache in Ramadan: a scoping review with implications for clinical practice.

INTRODUCTION: Headache attributed to fasting is a recognized secondary headache in the International Classification of Headache Disorders, 3rd edition (ICHD-3), defined as a diffuse, non-pulsating headache developing during fasting and relieved after eating. It is especially relevant during Ramadan, when large populations undergo predictable daily periods of food and fluid abstinence lasting up to 20 hours. Despite the high number of individuals potentially affected, the evidence on fasting-induced headache during Ramadan remains fragmented and has never been systematically summarized. AREAS

The Management of Acne in General Practice using Isotretinoin: A Scoping Review Protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Acne Vulgaris (Acne) is a common, chronic, cutaneous disorder associated with scarring, hyperpigmentation, and adverse psychological effects. The high prevalence of acne places a significant burden on healthcare systems worldwide due to the cost of treatment. The high usage of antibiotics in the treatment of this condition also has a significant impact on the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance. Isotretinoin is considered to be the most effective treatment for the management of severe acne; however, issues remain with inequitable access to this drug. General Practitioners (GPs

Exploring restrictive practices in inpatient eating disorder services: a scoping review.

Restrictive practices (RPs) encompass interventions that limit an individual's freedom, such as restraint, seclusion, and enforced treatment. While widely studied in acute mental health settings, their use within inpatient eating disorder services remains underexplored despite evidence of high prevalence. In addition to these formal restrictive interventions, eating disorder inpatient wards commonly employ structured behavioural rules as part of nutritional rehabilitation programs, including enforced rest periods, supervised meals, locked bathrooms, and limits on fluids or activity. A scoping

Intimate Partner Violence and Paramedicine: An Updated Scoping Review of Perspectives and Practices.

OBJECTIVES: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is increasingly being recognized as a clinical circumstance to which Emergency Medical Services (EMS) clinicians attend. IPV refers to the use of physical, sexual, psychological, and coercive violence by a current or former intimate partner to exert power and control. The intersection of paramedicine and IPV remains largely unclear. Our objective is to provide a comprehensive synthesis of the available evidence at the intersection of paramedicine and IPV. METHODS: This review followed a published protocol (Open Science Framework), and PRISMA-ScR gui

Mapping Robotics and Occupation-Based Practice in Stroke Rehabilitation: A Scoping Review.

Stroke rehabilitation often focuses on motor recovery, with robotic-assisted therapy showing promise in enhancing upper limb function. However, these interventions primarily target physical improvements and often neglect occupation-based practices. This scoping review examined how robotic rehabilitation aligns with occupational therapy principles by examining how real-life tasks are incorporated. Using Arksey and O'Malley's framework, we systematically reviewed studies published between January 2014 and July 2024 across PubMed, CINAHL, and Scopus. Of the 15 studies analyzed, most employed exos

From promise to practice: a scoping review of AI applications in abdominal radiology.

AI is rapidly transforming abdominal radiology. This scoping review mapped current applications across segmentation, detection, classification, prediction, and workflow optimization based on 432 studies published between 2019 and 2024. Most studies focused on CT imaging, with fewer involving MRI, ultrasound, or X-ray. Segmentation models (e.g., U-Net) performed well in liver and pancreatic imaging (Dice coefficient 0.65-0.90). Classification models (e.g., ResNet, DenseNet) were commonly used for diagnostic labeling, with reported sensitivities ranging from 52 to 100% and specificities from 40.

Trauma-informed or sensory-based practices in preschool settings: A scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Trauma is prevalent among preschool children and can significantly impact development, mental health, and engagement in childhood occupations. Evidence suggests trauma affects sensory processing, impacting engagement in everyday activities. Preschool settings may offset the impacts of trauma with social and developmental opportunities. Occupational therapy may provide interventions for trauma in preschools at both organisational and individual levels. Evidence for trauma-informed (organisational) preschool approaches is limited but growing; however, little is known about the use
