A bas-relief of the temple of Deir el-Bahari, Luxor, Egypt, discovered in 1867 by Mariette, shows a queen (Queen of Pount) with wide cutaneous folds on arms, abdomen and legs, hyperlordosis, a steatopygia and abnormally short lower limbs. Various assumptions about the diagnosis (steatopygia, partial achondroplasia, neurofibromatosis) were proposed at the beginning of the XXth century, neither taking into account all morphological abnormalities of the queen. We propose a novel hypothesis taking into account all signs: a Cutis Laxa.

Symptoms of tethered spinal cord syndrome often present later in life and go undiagnosed due to a lack of appreciation of the associated cutaneous stigmata. This is especially true with occult spinal dysraphism. Here, we report cutaneous signs of occult spinal dysraphism identified in two ancient Roman sculptures. Although the significance of such findings may not have been realized, the association between cutaneous stigmata of the back and underlying malformations involving the spinal cord is now recognized, as such findings are typically imaged to evaluate for spinal cord tethering.

Pessimism about the results of surgical reconstruction of the pinna in cases of microtia is unjustified. Evidence is presented that the Roman emperor Maximinus Daia had Graves' disease and died of severe thyrotoxicosis. The information about this emperor's terminal illness is drawn from the writings of the 4th century writers Eusebius and Lactantius. An existing statue indicates that the emperor had bilateral Graves' ophthalmopathy.

The nose is the prominent part of our face. Its look often determines a good part of its owner's image. Rhinophyma is a malformation of the nose of unknown etiology that is often mistakenly associated with drinking alcohol. This rare but definitely eye-catching nasal deformation has found interest not only among doctors but among poets and artists throughout the ages. We attempt to follow this disease from the old Maya culture up to the present century, using known pieces of art, as well as literary quotations.

The well-known Norwegian baroque sculptor Magnus Berg (1666-1739) was famous for his elegant and delicate ivory reliefs. The strange thing is that this artist, so dependent on the skills of his upper extremities, was known to have "severely trembling hands". A careful survey of biographical data, and analysis of his handwriting and artistic work lead to the conclusion that he suffered from essential tremor.

BACKGROUND: Electrosurgery has been used for many decades in medicine. Some machines generate ultra-high frequency current waveforms (radiosurgery), which minimize collateral tissue damage.
OBJECTIVE: Personal experience using radiosurgery in the performance of cosmetic surgery is related in the narrative form to offer the reader a "how we do it" perspective.
CONCLUSION: Radiosurgery facilitates the performance of blepharoplasty, face lifting, hair restoration surgery, abdominoplasty, nasal reduction sculpturing of rhinophyma, and minor cosmetic procedures. Collateral heat damage is minimal

Seed morphological properties of 19 taxa belonging to the genus Alcea L.
