Vital pulp therapy is one of the least invasive and simplest and most economically acceptable treatment alternatives for immature teeth with pulpitis. The success rate of this treatment, with calcium silicate-based cements, ranges from 85% to 100%. Vital pulp therapy prevents the development of apical periodontitis and promotes normal root development, allowing the tooth to remain in the dentition and perform its functions. The patient was a nine-year-old boy with pain on chewing and a positive response to cold. The panoramic radiograph showed an immature permanent lower molar with deep caries

This study compared the fluid filtration, adaptation to the root canal walls, and the push-out bond strength of two resin-based sealers and three calcium silicate-based retrograde filling materials. Fifty maxillary canines were shaped using manual instruments and the apical portion was sectioned. Retrograde cavities of 3-mm depth were prepared. The specimens were divided into five groups (n = 10): Sealer 26 (S26); MBPc (experimental); MTA; Portland cement with 20% zirconium oxide (PC/ZO), and Portland cement with 20% calcium tungstate (PC/CT). The fluid filtration was measured at 7 and 15 days

Class V cavities were prepared at the amelo-cementum junction in sixty-eight extracted human teeth. Fifty-one were filled with glass ionomer cement (ASPA). 'Secondary carious' lesions were produced around thirty-five of the restorations by exposure to acidified gelatin. Thirty-three teeth served as controls of the effect of the preparation procedure, the conditioner, the ASPA liquid and the filling material proper on the cavity walls. Sixty 120 micrometers-thick longitudinal sections from the teeth with the restorations in situ were studied by polarized light microscopy and microradiography. T

Mitigating structural failure and improving the fire safety of concrete infrastructure during severe thermal events depends critically on the high-temperature resilience of Portland cement paste. Given the increasing production of Portland blended cements, understanding their high-temperature behavior is crucial for ensuring the safety of building structures. This study investigates the effects of exposure to high temperatures (up to 1200 °C) on Portland cement pastes containing ground granulated blast furnace slag and quartz powder, focusing on their thermal stability and the chemical reactio

Mineral and rock additions to the environment have been proposed as a pathway to remove atmospheric CO2. This process occurs when hydrated minerals or rocks increase alkalinity, promoting the formation of bicarbonate. In this study, we evaluate the potential of commonly used hydrated rock and mineral powders to enhance alkalinity and react with both atmospheric and concentrated CO2. Silicate minerals and rocks exhibit minimal reactivity with atmospheric CO2 and provide moderate alkalinity enhancement. Volcanic rocks like basalt were shown to release CO2. Ground cement and Mg(OH)2, refined from

Dens invaginatus (DI) is a developmental anomaly characterized by the invagination of enamel and dentin into the pulp space, predisposing affected teeth to pulpal and periapical pathologies. The complex and irregular canal anatomy often complicates endodontic management. This case report describes the nonsurgical endodontic retreatment of a maxillary lateral incisor (22) with Oehler's Type II DI in a 32-year-old female patient presenting with chronic apical periodontitis. Cone beam computed tomography revealed a highly complex root canal anatomy, consisting of a large, irregular main canal, nu

The fracture strength of implant-supported monolithic CAD/CAM crowns under approximate clinical conditions and how their fracture strength is affected by cement type remain unclear. The present study investigated the fracture resistance of implant-supported polymer-infiltrated ceramic and zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate glass-ceramic crowns cemented with two different cement types after aging in a mastication simulator. RelyX Ultimate Clicker (3M ESPE) as adhesive resin cement, Panavia SA Cement Plus (Kuraray Noritake) as self-adhesive resin cement, and two monolithic materials (A1-T for

This study investigated the feasibility of utilizing thermally activated coal gangue as a partial replacement for Portland cement through a composite activation strategy involving red mud and sodium silicate. Orthogonal experimental design, together with isothermal calorimetry, low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), was employed to systematically evaluate the hydration behavior, microstructural evolution, and compressive strength development of the cementitious system. he re

This paper reviews progresses on the use of alkali-activated cements for stabilization/solidification of hazardous and radioactive wastes. Alkali-activated cements consist of an alkaline activator and cementing components, such as blast furnace slag, coal fly ash, phosphorus slag, steel slag, metakaolin, etc., or a combination of two or more of them. Properly designed alkali-activated cements can exhibit both higher early and later strengths than conventional portland cement. The main hydration product of alkali-activated cements is calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) with low Ca/Si ratios or alumi

Background/Objectives: Pulp necrosis in immature permanent teeth arrests root development, leaving an open apex, thin, divergent dentinal walls, and an unfavorable crown-to-root ratio that predisposes the tooth to fracture and complicates endodontic management. An apical barrier using hydraulic calcium silicate cements has become the first-line orthograde approach for these teeth when regenerative procedures are not indicated or feasible. This narrative review synthesizes current evidence on the complete clinical pathway for apical barrier placement in immature permanent teeth, with particular

UNLABELLED: When exposure of the pulp to external environment occurs, reparative dentinogenesis can be induced by direct pulp capping to maintain pulp tissue vitality and function. These clinical situations require the use of materials that induce dentin repair and, subsequently, formation of a mineralized tissue.
OBJECTIVE: This work aims to assess the effect of tricalcium silicate cements and mineral trioxide aggregate cements, including repairing dentin formation and inflammatory reactions over time after pulp exposure in Wistar rats.
METHODOLOGY: These two biomaterials were compared with

A leaching model was developed using the United States Geological Survey public domain PHREEQC geochemical package to simulate the leaching of Pb, Cd, As, and Cr from cementitious wastes. The model utilises both kinetic terms and equilibrium thermodynamics of key compounds and provides information on leachate and precipitate speciation. The model was able to predict the leaching of Pb, Cd, As, and Cr from cement in the presence of both simple (0.1 and 0.6M acetic acid) and complex municipal landfill leachates. Heavy metal complexation by the municipal landfill leachate was accounted for by the

Rapid bone regeneration in implants is important for successful transplantation. In this regard, we report the development of calcium silicate/zinc silicate (CS/ZS) dual-compound-incorporated calcium phosphate cement (CPC) scaffolds with a three-dimensional poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) network that synergistically promote bone regeneration. In vitroresults demonstrated that the incorporation of CS/ZS dual compounds into the CPC significantly promoted the osteogenic differentiation of stem cells compared to the addition of CS or ZS alone. Moreover, the bone-regeneration efficacy of the composi

Data from several studies performed during the last 15 years indicate that bacteria and their products are the main etiological factor for dental pulp inflammation. The present series of investigations was conducted in order to determine the irritating effect from various oral bacterial components and restorative measures on dental pulpal tissue and to ascertain reaction patterns of inflamed pulp tissue. The different bacterial materials were tested in an experimental model where the test substance was applied and enclosed in buccal class V cavities prepared in human or monkey teeth. The pulp
