OBJECTIVES: Lymph nodes (LN) and lymphatic drainage were identified by lymphoscintigraphy using ⁹⁹(m)Tc-phytate in order to map the sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) in patients with malignant skin neoplasms of the lower extremities, and to compare the results with an atlas of Japanese lymphatic anatomy.

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare hematologic malignancy that can manifest with skin nodules and erythematous plaques. Porocarcinoma is a rare type of aggressive skin adnexal carcinoma with terminal sweat duct differentiation, representing the malignant counterpart of the more common benign eccrine poroma. Diagnosis is based on distinctive morphology, supplemented by immunohistochemistry. The chronic toxicity of 2,4-toluenediamine (2,4-TDA) alone or in conbination with a hair dye complex (2,5-toluenediamine, p-phenylenediamine, and resorcinol) was studied in Swiss-Webster mice of both sexes by a skin-painting technique. The global incidence of skin cancer and actinic keratosis (AK) has increased dramatically in recent years. It has long been suggested that subjects diagnosed with cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) have an excess rate of subsequent neoplasms. BACKGROUND: The Danish Veterinary Cancer Registry (DVCR) was established in May 2005 to gather information about neoplasms in the Danish dog and cat populations. Practitioners from more than 60 clinics throughout Denmark have submitted data on these species. Solution of N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU), diazoacetic ester (DAAE), N-methyl-N-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG), N-methyl-N,N'-dinitroguanidine, 4-dimethylaminoazobenzene (DAB), o-aminoazotoluene or 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA) were applied to rat skin. Neoplasms (skin tumors) were found only in the experiments with MNU, DAAE, MNNG, DAB and DMBA, MNU, MNNG, DAB and DMBA induced tumours in the sites of skin painting. In experiments with DAAE distant skin neoplasms developed as well. Possible mechanisms of action of these compounds are discussed.

The skin changes outlined in this article can be important clues to an underlying malignancy. Paraneoplastic dermatoses are skin disorders associated with an underlying neoplasm and whose course parallels that of the neoplasm. Recognizing these skin presentations leads to early diagnosis and management of the underlying malignancy. Effective treatment of the associated neoplasm often leads to improvement of the cutaneous manifestations and should be the primary focus of each patient's management.

A total of 243 neoplasms were recorded in a survey of all the feline neoplasms which are reported in the registration files of the Veterinary Research Institute, Onderstepoort, Republic of South Africa, covering a 40-year period from 1935 to 1974.
