Comparison of Amorphous Solid Dispersions of Spironolactone Prepared by Spray Drying and Electrospinning: The Influence of the Preparation Method on the Dissolution Properties.

This research aimed to compare two solvent-based methods for the preparation of amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs) made up of poorly soluble spironolactone and poly(vinylpyrrolidone-co-vinyl acetate). The same apparatus was used to produce, in continuous mode, drug-loaded electrospun (ES) and spray-dried (SD) materials from dichloromethane and ethanol-containing solutions. The main differences between the two preparation methods were the concentration of the solution and application of high voltage. During electrospinning, a solution with a higher concentration and high voltage was used to for

Influence of pasteurization and spray drying on the fat digestion behavior of human milk fat analog emulsion: a simulated in vitro infant digestion study.

BACKGROUND: Human milk fat analog emulsion (HMFAE) is an emulsion that mimics the composition and structure of human milk (HM) fat globules. The application of HMFAE in infant formula requires a series of milk powder processing steps, such as pasteurization and spray drying. However, the effect of milk powder processing on fat digestion of HMFAE is still unclear. In this study, the influence of pasteurization and spray drying on the lipolysis behavior of HMFAE was studied and compared with HM using a simulated infant in vitro digestion model. RESULTS: Pasteurization and spray drying increased

A Taguchi Approach Applied to Spray Drying of Araticum Juice Using Whey Protein-Maltodextrin Mixtures and Assessment of In Vitro Gastrointestinal Release and Bioaccessibility.

Spray drying is widely employed to produce stable fruit powders and may facilitate the utilization of highly perishable raw materials rich in bioactive compounds. However, processing conditions, carrier selection, and feed preparation are critical factors governing powder quality, bioactive compound stability, and gastrointestinal release. This study evaluated the spray drying of araticum (Annona crassiflora), a native fruit of the Brazilian Cerrado, using maltodextrin and whey protein concentrate (WPC) as carrier materials. A Taguchi L9 design was applied to assess inlet air temperature (100,

The efficacy and safety of varenicline nasal spray for the management of dry eye signs: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Dry eye disease (DED) is caused by a persistently unstable tear film leading to ocular discomfort and is treated mainly with tear supplementation. There is emerging evidence that nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) agonists (e.g., varenicline and simpinicline) nasal sprays are effective for DED. Our systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the efficacy and safety of varenicline nasal spray (VNS) for DED treatment. METHODS: The Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) databases were searched. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) tha

Microencapsulation of Salmonella-Specific Bacteriophage Felix O1 Using Spray-Drying in a pH-Responsive Formulation and Direct Compression Tableting of Powders into a Solid Oral Dosage Form.

The treatment of enteric bacterial infections using oral bacteriophage therapy can be challenging since the harsh acidic stomach environment renders phages inactive during transit through the gastrointestinal tract. Solid oral dosage forms allowing site-specific gastrointestinal delivery of high doses of phages, e.g., using a pH or enzymatic trigger, would be a game changer for the nascent industry trying to demonstrate the efficacy of phages, including engineered phages for gut microbiome modulation in expensive clinical trials. Spray-drying is a scalable, low-cost process for producing pharm
