Antifungal Activity of Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia Cheel) Essential Oils against the Main Onychomycosis-Causing Dermatophytes.

Onychomycosis is a common fungal infection that affects the nails and accounts for approximately 50% of all nail diseases. The main pathogens involved include dermatophytes, such as Trichophyton rubrum, members of the T. mentagrophytes complex, and emerging pathogens in this infection, T. schoenleinii and T. tonsurans. Tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia Cheel) essential oil (EO) has been proposed as a promising natural alternative to traditional treatments due to its antimicrobial properties. Among its more than 100 compounds, terpinen-4-ol is one of the main contributors to the antifungal actio

Effect of Tea Tree Oil on the Expression of Genes Involved in the Innate Immune System in Goat Rumen Epithelial Cells.

In subacute rumen acidosis (SARA), the rumen epithelium is frequently attacked by endotoxin (LPS), which is caused by the lysis of dead Gram-negative bacteria. However, the rumen epithelium innate immune system can actively respond to the infection. Previous studies have demonstrated that tea tree oil (TTO) has good bactericidal and anti-inflammatory effects. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of TTO on the expression of genes involved in the inflammatory cytokines in goat rumen epithelial cells (GRECs) triggered by LPS. Our study shows that rumen epithelial cells i

A network pharmacology and transcriptome analysis of the therapeutic effects of tea tree oil on the lungs of chicks exposed to hydrogen sulfide.

This study investigated the use of tea tree oil (TTO) in the treatment of H2S-induced lung injury in chickens, focusing on the detoxification mechanism. H2S can damage the respiratory system and reduce growth performance. TTO can improve immune inflammation and growth performance. The mechanism by which TTO mitigates the harmful effects of H2S on chicken lungs remains unclear. Therefore, the experimental model was established by H2S exposure and TTO addition in drinking water. The 240 one-day-old Roman pink chicks were selected for the experiment. The trial was divided into control group (CON)

In Chemico Evaluation of Tea Tree Essential Oils as Skin Sensitizers: Impact of the Chemical Composition on Aging and Generation of Reactive Species.

Tea tree oil (TTO) is an essential oil obtained from the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia, M. linariifolia, or M. dissitiflora. Because of the commercial importance of TTO, substitution or adulteration with other tea tree species (such as cajeput, niaouli, manuka, or kanuka oils) is common and may pose significant risks along with perceived health benefits. The distinctive nature, qualitative and quantitative compositional variation of these oils, is responsible for the various pharmacological as well as adverse effects. Authentic TTOs (especially aged ones) have been identified as potential s

A Collagen Pickering Emulsion-Coated Mycelium Film with Hydro-Responsive Toughness and Adhesion for Psoriasis Treatment via Tea Tree Oil Release.

Psoriasis is a severe, chronic inflammatory skin disease that significantly impairs patients' quality of life and can potentially be life-threatening. However, current treatments are often limited by strong side effects, short therapeutic efficacy, and a risk of secondary tissue damage. To address these limitations, this study developed a fully biomass-based, hydro-responsive adhesive dressing with controlled tea tree oil (TTO) release for psoriasis treatment. TTO was encapsulated within collagen Pickering emulsions (COLPE) and subsequently coated onto a mycelium (MYC) film to form a TTO-relea
