It has been claimed that effective responses to child sexual abuse (CSA) must engage with the specific cultural, social, and religious contexts of the target communities. For Jewish communities in Australia, the program J-Safe was established to raise awareness, create cultural change, and empower the Jewish community to be able to prevent, recognize, and address child sexual assault within the school setting. This paper reports on the experiences of teachers in two Jewish-day schools who had participated in the J-Safe Project's protective behaviors teacher training program. Participants' acco

The present study investigated knowledge, misconceptions, and lack of information about dyslexia among pre-service (PST) and in-service (IST) Spanish-speaking teachers in Spain and Peru. Two hundred and forty-six pre-service teachers and 267 in-service teachers completed the Knowledge and Beliefs about Developmental Dyslexia Scale (KBDDS). In-service teachers scored significantly higher on the total scale, and on the symptoms/diagnosis and general information subscales, than pre-service teachers. The percentages for misconceptions and lack of information ("do not know responses") were higher f

This study was conducted to determine if self-instructional strategy training would improve learning disabled students' writing. Students were taught a strategy designed to facilitate the generation, framing, and planning of argumentative essays. Training effects were investigated using a multiple-baseline across-subjects design, with multiple probes in baseline. Strategy instruction had a positive effect on students' writing performance and self-efficacy. Effects were maintained over time and transferred to a new setting and teacher. Evidence for generalization to a second genre, story writin

BACKGROUND: Teachers' beliefs are conducive to inclusion at school. Based on the intergroup contact theory, this study examined short - and long-term effects of an innovative contact intervention on pre-service teachers' beliefs and inclusive practices.
METHOD: Using a pre-post-follow-up design, data were collected from N = 356 pre-service teachers in university teacher training, divided into an intervention group attending a seminar session with people with intellectual disabilities as lecturers and a comparison group following the standard curriculum.
RESULTS: Structural equation modellin

Two variations of school-based cognitive-behavioral training (CBT) program were compared to each other and to a waiting-list control condition in the treatment of children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The experimental interventions included a multicomponent condition that provided coordinated training programs for parents, teachers, and children and a teacher-only condition that offered training for classroom teachers only. Evaluation of outcome occurred at pre-intervention, post-intervention and at 6-week followup periods. Depedent measures included classroom behavior

The use of technology in education has the potential to create more inclusive environments for all students, including those with disabilities. In Italy, the Ministry of Education has recognized the importance of digital literacy in schools and has issued several documents outlining the steps necessary to build a more inclusive educational system. However, in order to achieve these goals, it is important to assess the current situation and identify areas for improvement. The Entelis Self-assessment framework, particularly the Italian short version, can be used as a tool to help schools assess

Autistic students benefit from child-centered goals that align with evidence-based practices (EBPs) that meet their individualized needs, however, most teachers are not trained in how to implement autism-specific EBPs. The challenges do not lie with teachers alone. Professional development (PD) providers, such as district or regional autism experts who train and coach teachers on how to implement autism-specific EBPs, face barriers accessing the needed supports to conduct high-quality PD and lack experience with individualizing their methods for training and coaching teachers. When PD provider

INTRODUCTION: Type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM) is a complex and demanding chronic condition that requires continuous and specialized care. Since children spend many hours at school, consistent and proper monitoring of students with Type 1 DM is essential. Teachers' involvement can be crucial in supporting the effective management of the disease.
PURPOSE: To investigate the level of teachers' knowledge on diabetes, their attitude towards students with insulin-dependent diabetes, as well as their level of general self-efficacy.
METHOD: 150 teachers working in public primary schools were provided

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To explore, describe and compare learning actions that nursing students used during peripheral vein cannulation training on a latex arm or each other's arms in a clinical skills centre.
BACKGROUND: Simulation-based training is thought to enhance learning and transfer of learning from simulation to the clinical setting and is commonly recommended in nursing education. What students actually are doing during simulation-based training is, however, less explored. The analysis of learning actions used during simulation-based training could contribute to development and improve

BACKGROUND: Research comparing inclusive education implementation in non-Western contexts, such as Indonesia and Oman, remains limited. Both countries share cultural similarities yet differ significantly in their education governance. Understanding these differences is crucial for improving inclusive education policies and practices.
METHODS: This study employed qualitative document analysis, reviewing 33 policy and implementation documents from Indonesia and Oman. The analysis focused on five dimensions: service models, teacher training, curriculum adaptation, community involvement, and cult

BACKGROUND: Cleft lip and/or palate (CL/P) poses many challenges for those affected throughout the school years, with recent studies pointing to a trend in poor educational outcomes. Previous research has highlighted the important role that teachers play in supporting young people with chronic health conditions yet studies in the field of CL/P suggest that teachers may lack knowledge of the condition, and underestimate pupils' academic ability. Qualitative investigation of the impact of CL/P from the teacher's perspective may provide additional insight as well as potential suggestions for impr

With the rapid development of precision agriculture, seed germination detection is crucial for crop monitoring and variety selection. Existing fully supervised detection methods rely on large-scale annotated datasets, which are costly and time-intensive to obtain in agricultural scenarios. To tackle this issue, we introduce a knowledge distillation-enhanced semi-supervised germination detection framework (KD-SSGD) that requires no pre-trained teacher and supports end-to-end training. Built on a teacher-student architecture, KD-SSGD introduces a lightweight distilled student branch and three ke

Recently, many states passed laws requiring pre- and in-service teachers to receive professional development in dyslexia awareness. Even though misconceptions regarding dyslexia are widespread, there is a paucity of research on how to effectively remove misconceptions and replace them with accurate knowledge. The purpose of this study was to determine whether a researcher-created refutation text grounded in conceptual change theory could produce significant conceptual change in preservice teacher knowledge of dyslexia when compared with a control text about dyslexia (Dyslexia Basics, Internati

African adolescents are at high risk of poor sexual health. School-based interventions could reach many adolescents in a sustainable and replicable way, if enrolment, funding and infrastructure are adequate. This study examined pupils', recent school leavers', parents' and teachers' views and experiences of rural Tanzanian primary schools, focusing on the implications for potential sexual health programmes. From 1999 to 2002, participant observation was conducted in nine villages for 158 person-weeks. Half of Year 7 pupils were 15-17 years old, and few went on to secondary school, suggesting t

OBJECTIVE: Computer-assisted child-focused interventions are expected to improve efficiency and personalization of therapist-led treatments for children and adolescents. However, therapist-led, outpatient interventions using computer assistance are lacking for children with oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) or conduct disorder (CD). The present randomized controlled trial examined the efficacy of individualized computer-assisted social skills training for children with aggressive behavior compared to a resource activation intervention.
METHOD: A total of 100 children aged 6-12 years with a

Although teachers are arguably in the best position to recognize signs of child neglect in its earliest stages, there is a notable gap in research examining their perspectives. In this study, we examined how Jewish and Arab in-service and pre-service teachers in Israel perceive their role in responding to child neglect, their attitudes toward it, and what this role should consist of. Focus groups were conducted with 107 participants across two groups: (a) 10 with in-service Jewish and Arab teachers; and (b) seven with pre-service Jewish and Arab teachers. Overall, teachers acknowledged their c
