To determine if subacute thyroiditis (SAT) is associated with changes in the regional perfusion of the thyroid gland, we performed Tc-99 m sestamibi scans on eleven patients with SAT who had painful goiter and clinical thyrotoxicosis. Eleven patients had Tc-99 m pertechnetate and Tc-99 m sestamibi scintigraphy during the acute stage of SAT. Chyluria is a urologic manifestation of a lymphatic system disease abnormality and leads to nutritional deficiency. The case of a patient with chyluria is presented, and the results of lymphoscintigraphy with those of contrast lymphangiography are compared. Lymphoscintigraphy very clearly showed the site of the fistulae and was as precise as lymphangiography. Follow-up lymphoscintigraphy 2 months after therapy revealed no radionuclide accumulation. Lymphoscintigraphy is a useful, noninvasive, safe, and simple technique for the diagnosis and follow-up of chyluria.

The ability of ectopically placed fundic mucosa and retained antral mucosa to concentrate technetium has previously been demonstrated. The ability of ectopically placed antral mucosa to concentrate technetium was investigated. The denervated antrum implanted into the colon concentrated technetium in 5 dogs. However, this response was significantly less than that of parietal cell-containing mucosa (P less than 0.005) of the stomach. Technetium scanning may be useful in detecting ectopic and retained antral mucosa.

A 25-year-old miner was admitted with an acute abdomen and marked pallor following a crush injury to the abdomen. CT showed an irregular, patchy appearance of the posterosuperior portion of the liver with a coefficient of density appreciably less than the rest of the liver, consistent with the presence of a hepatic hematoma. The patient was treated conservatively. During the two weeks that followed, fluid accumulated in the peritoneal cavity. At laparotomy, a large volume of bile- and blood-stained fluid was found in the peritoneal cavity. Tc-99m DISIDA imaging was done after laparotomy.

Human fibrinogen was labeled with 99m-Technetium. Tin(II)-chloride in citric acid served as reducing agent for the pertechnetate-ion, eluted from a Mo-Tc-generator. Results of a prospective study to evaluate the clinical usefulness of radioisotope joint scanning in the practice of rheumatology are reported. The radiopharmaceutical used was technetium pertechnetate, increased synovial blood flow being the main contributory factor to abnormal joint images. A study was undertaken to investigate the behavior of 99mTc-Sn-pyrophosphate complex in metabolic bone disease. Of clinical importance was the generalized increased periarticular bone accumulation of the radiopharmaceutical in osteomalacia and in combined osteomalacia and osteitis fibrosa as found in patients with chronic renal failure. Demonstration of type B aortic dissection is rare during renal scintigraphy. The discordant radionuclide pattern of asymmetric renal flow with equivalent renal function and excretion has been previously reported in aortic dissection. However, delayed scintigraphic features of the false lumen have not been described. The author presents such a case with persistent technetium-99m MAG3 accumulation in the posterior mediastinum on postvoid planar imaging.

Chemical stability of the naphthol-azo dye Evans Blue (EB) was examined in the presence of acidic stannous chloride (SnCl(2)), with a view to preparing an instant cold kit. EB was found to be reactive toward this reducing agent, yielding the metal-chelating molecule 1,7-diamino-8-naphthol-2,4-disulfonic acid at high acidity and high stannous concentrations. This reduction reaction was undesirable in the cold kit preparation.
