Visual optical thermometry with large color shifting based on a novel negative thermal expansion up-conversion molybdate KMgScMo3O12: Yb3+, Ho3.

Thermochromic luminescent materials with both naked-eye visibility and temperature-sensing potential have become a research focus, but high-temperature thermal quenching still severely limits their practical application. In this work, a multimodal optical temperature sensor with pronounced anti-thermal quenching behavior is developed based on the negative thermal expansion (NTE) phosphor KMgScMo3O12: Yb, Ho. The thermal behavior of the 5F4/5S2 and 5F5 levels of Ho3+ diverges significantly across the temperature range of 298 to 548 K. The 5F4/5S2 levels show a temperature-dependent decrease in

Intraoperative zero-heat-flux thermometry overestimates esophageal temperature by 0.26 °C: an observational study in 100 infants and young children.

In pediatric anesthesia, deviations from normothermia can lead to many complications, with infants and young children at the highest risk. A measurement method for core temperature must be clinically accurate, precise and should be minimally invasive. Zero-heat-flux (ZHF) temperature measurements have been evaluated in several studies in adults. We assessed the agreement between the 3M Bair Hugger™ temperature measurement sensor (TZHF) and esophageal temperature (TEso) in children up to and including 6 years undergoing surgery with general anesthesia. Data were recorded in 5 min-intervals. We

Validation of Magnetic Resonance Brain Thermometry and Bioheat Modeling of Brain Temperature Using Direct Measurements With an Implanted Fiber Optic Probe.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Brain temperature is a promising marker of prognosis after injury. Although magnetic resonance (MR) thermometry and biophysical modeling can approximate absolute temperature, limited validation has been performed with direct measurements in a large animal model. The goal of this pilot study was to compare brain temperature measured using MR chemical shift thermometry (CST) and biophysical modeling with that measured using a fiber optic probe in a porcine model. METHODS: MR data were acquired from a Yorkshire pig using a 3 T whole body MR scanner, with simultaneous m

Quantitative assessment of ablation zone accuracy in 3D stack-of-spirals proton resonance frequency shift thermometry during clinical hepatic microwave ablation.

INTRODUCTION: Real-time temperature feedback is critical for hepatic tumor ablation. Volumetric MR PRFS thermometry, including 3D stack-of-spirals sequences, shows promise; however, clinical validation for microwave ablation (MWA) is lacking. This study evaluated feasibility, spatial accuracy and susceptibility-related artifacts during hepatic MWA. METHODS: In 24 consecutively treated patients, 48 ablations targeting 34 hepatic lesions were included. After excluding 12 patients with overlapping ablations and one with severe artifacts, a retrospective analysis was conducted in 11 patients with

Evaluation of magnetic resonance thermometry performance during MR-guided hyperthermia treatment of soft-tissue sarcomas in the lower extremities and pelvis.

INTRODUCTION: This study evaluated the performance of magnetic resonance thermometry (MRT) during deep-regional hyperthermia (HT) in pelvic and lower-extremity soft-tissue sarcomas. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 17 pelvic (45 treatments) and 16 lower-extremity (42 treatments) patients underwent standard regional HT and chemotherapy. Pairs of double-echo gradient-echo scans were acquired during the MR protocol 1.4 s apart. For each pair, precision was quantified using phase data from both echoes ('dual-echo') or only one ('single-echo') in- or excluding body fat pixels in the field drift correction r

Assessment of NIR-triggered PEG-coated NaGdF4:Tm3+/Yb3+bio-compatible upconversion nanoparticles for contrast enhancement in OCT imaging and optical thermometry.

In this investigation, we embarked on the synthesis of polyethylene glycol coated NaGdF4:Tm3+/Yb3+upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs), aiming to assess their utility in enhancing image contrast within the context of swept source optical coherence tomography (OCT) and photo-thermal OCT imaging. Our research unveiled the remarkable UC emissions stemming from the transitions of Tm3+ions, specifically the1G4→3H6transitions, yielding vibrant blue emissions at 472 nm. We delved further into the UC mechanism, meticulously scrutinizing decay times and the nanoparticles' capacity to convert radiation in

A Subvoxel Correction of Boiling-Induced Susceptibility Artifacts in Magnetic Resonance Thermometry and Dosimetry for Monitoring Microwave Thermoablation: A Feasibility Study in a Swine Model.

PURPOSE: Real-time monitoring of microwave liver ablation (MWA) using MRI thermometry can be hindered by boiling-induced susceptibility artifacts. These artifacts cause large temperature measurement errors that prevent accurate lesion size prediction. This study proposes a correction methodology based on removing the contribution of this susceptibility artifact using subvoxel sources of susceptibility. METHODS: In vivo microwave ablations (N = 23) were performed on seven pig livers and the temperature was monitored using the proton resonance frequency shift (PRFS) method. The boiling-induced
