Dithiocarbamates represent a class of compounds that were evaluated in different biomedical applications because of their chemical versatility. For this reason, several pharmacological activities have already been attributed to these compounds, such as antiparasitic, antiviral, antifungal activities, among others. We investigated the suitability of dithiocarbamate (DTC) species as capping ligands for colloidal CdSe-ZnS quantum dots (QDs). DTC ligands are generated by reacting carbon disulfide (CS(2)) with primary or secondary amines on appropriate precursor molecules. A biphasic exchange procedure efficiently replaces the existing hydrophobic capping ligands on the QD surface with the newly formed DTCs. Fe3O4@C core-shell nanoparticles were modified by (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) to generate amine functionality in the surface. The interactions of the cruciferous phytoalexins rapalexin A (1), brussalexin A (2) and erucalexin (3) with the fungal plant pathogen Leptosphaeria maculans were analyzed and their inhibitory activities against this pathogen were determined. The reaction of L. maculans to N-methyl S-(indolyl-3-methyl)carbamodithioate, an analogue of brussalexin A, was also investigated. Combined action of Thiuram with Carbaryl, Propoxur, Pirimor, Chlorfenvinphos, Malathion, Lindane, and Carbendazine was investigated in rats. The acute toxicity of the herbicide thiobencarb (S-4-chlorobenzyl diethylthiocarbamate) was determined for the European eel (Anguilla anguilla). The 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours median lethal concentrations (LC50) were 25.7, 21.7, 17.0 and 13.2 mg/L, respectively. Five secondary amines and secondary amino acids were reacted with carbon disulfide to yield dithiocarbamates. These compounds were tested for their influence on biochemical parameters and on some biological effects of N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA). The following results were found. (i) All dithiocarbamates tested reduced the activity of N-nitrosodiethylamine-deethylase and completely inhibited the N-nitrosodimethylamine-demethylase in the rat liver. A striking influence on the glutathione content and on the activity of glutathione-S-transferase and glutathione-reductase was not observed. (ii)
