AIM AND BACKGROUND: This case report evaluates the clinical efficacy of advanced platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF) in managing multiple anterior tooth avulsions in a pediatric patient, addressing the significant challenge of achieving favorable long-term outcomes in complex dental trauma cases.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 10-year-old female presented with three avulsed mandibular anterior teeth (31, 32, 41) following playground trauma. Treatment involved A-PRF membrane preparation from autologous blood, socket lining with A-PRF prior to replantation, and flexible splinting. Follow-up extended to 36 months

Ankylosis and external replacement resorption (ERR) are two typical biological responses to delayed replantation of avulsed teeth in cases where adequate root canal treatment is performed. The patient's growth stage affects the progression of root resorption and the long-term outcome of the affected teeth. This case report describes the long-term outcome of an 18.5-year-old patient following an accident in which both of his maxillary central incisors were avulsed and replanted after four hours of non-physiological storage. ERR and ankylosis of teeth 11 and 21 were detected clinically and radio

The case describes the management of an avulsed maxillary central primary incisor of a 3 1/2-year-old girl. The tooth was retained in the oral cavity for 30 min. After replantation it was splinted for 17 days. At day 11 the root canal was completely instrumented and obturated with a calcium hydroxide paste. The 1-year follow-up documented no pathologic clinical or radiographic findings. One and a half years after the trauma the tooth was extracted since a fistula and extensive external inflammatory resorption had developed. The permanent successor erupted along with its neighboring central inc

INTRODUCTION: An avulsion injury is a serious trauma to pulp and periodontal tissues. After avulsion and replantation, teeth are at risk of infection and root resorption, which may affect treatment outcome and survival rate. Thus, the purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the incidence of root resorption after the replantation of avulsed teeth.
METHODS: Two reviewers searched 7 electronic databases for observational studies involving human subjects that evaluated the incidence of root resorption after tooth avulsion. Risk of bias (RoB) was evaluated using the Meta-Analysis of Stat

The pulp plays a key role in the treatment of traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) and is strongly associated with the outcome, particularly in severe cases. A correct pulp diagnosis is essential as it forms the basis for developing the appropriate management strategy. However, many TDIs are complex, and their treatment requires a profound knowledge of the physiological and pathological responses of the affected tissues. This comprehensive review will look at the dentine-pulp complex and its interaction with the surrounding tissues following TDIs. The literature up to 2020 was reviewed based on se

Dentoalveolar trauma, very frequent during childhood and adolescence, generally results in tooth fracture and/or partial or total luxation. Management of the pulpal and periodontal aspects of these traumatic cases is complex. The prognosis is improved if treatment is initiated promptly. Multidisciplinary management of these situations and regular patient follow-up make it possible to detect complications quickly and take the necessary action to maintain the teeth as long as possible in a healthy periodontal environment that allows harmonious development and the application of appropriate treat

Dental avulsion is the most severe type of traumatic tooth injuries because it causes damage to several structures and results in the complete displacement of the tooth from its socket in the alveolar bone. The ideal situation is to replant an exarticulated tooth immediately after avulsion because the extraoral time is a determinant factor for treatment success and for a good prognosis. However, it is not always possible. The success of replantation depends on a number of factors that may contribute to accelerate or minimize the occurrence of root resorption or ankylosis, among which is the ty

Dental infraposition and dental infraocclusion, hereinafter referred to as infraposition and infraocclusion respectively, are terms that are often used interchangeably. This can be noted in the International Association of Dental Traumatology guidelines for the management of traumatic dental injuries, where infraocclusion is listed as an injury-specific outcome following avulsion of permanent teeth. Infraposition and infraocclusion are terms that have been used in the dental literature to describe teeth that interfere with the normal eruption and development of the permanent dentition. While t

Replantation should be attempted in any case of avulsion, be it immediate or delayed. Retention of the replanted tooth helps in preservation of adjacent alveolar bone. Despite the occurrence of replacement resorption, the tooth can stay healthy and functional in the arch for a longer duration.

A case is reported of the replantation of a maxillary incisor with an immature apex following a traumatic avulsion. A 14-month follow-up clinical examination revealed the patient to be asymptomatic, the tooth to be still functional, and a recall radiograph showed no evidence of renewed periradicular breakdown. The indications for, and limitations of, replantation of an avulsed permanent incisor with an immature apex are discussed.

The occurrence of different types of trauma concomitantly can complicate the establishment of the most appropriate treatment. This report describes the clinical management of orofacial trauma including multiple avulsions, lateral luxation, alveolar fracture, and their sequelae after 7 years of follow-up. A 19-year-old woman presented to emergency care 4 hours after an accidental fall that resulted in the avulsion of teeth #8, #9, and #25; a complicated crown fracture and lateral luxation of tooth #7; an uncomplicated crown fracture of tooth #10; and a fracture of the maxillary alveolar bone. INTRODUCTION: Tooth replantation is the treatment of choice for avulsion, even though its long-term prognosis shows great variability and few studies have adopted survival analysis to evaluate the fate of such teeth. The present study aimed to evaluate both the survival rate of replanted permanent teeth after traumatic avulsion as well as its clinical and demographic determinants.
METHODS: Records from 576 patients treated at the Dental Trauma Clinic at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, were analyzed to collect clinical and radiographic data. Kaplan-Meier curves and a multivaria

The sequelae associated with anterior oral trauma during childhood growth may require a protracted period of clinical management to achieve an optimal foundation for future prosthetic therapy. This article presents two case examples of long-term ridge development and preservation in children after anterior dental and alveolar trauma. These two patients were managed for periods of 11 years, one from age 8 to 19 and the other from age 9 to 20, until they were old enough to receive implantsupported restorations. Two different treatment plans were prescribed based on whether or not the teeth in qu

BACKGROUND: Intrusive luxation, also called central dislocation, is often the result of an axial impact in the apical direction, moving the tooth within the alveolar bone. This is possibly one of the most traumatic injuries, since the displacement of a tooth within its socket implies extensive and acute involvement of the periodontal ligament, bone damage and rupture of the neurovascular bundle. The close relationship between the apexes of the primary teeth and the developing permanent successor in turn can lead to multiple complications, which are greater when the permanent tooth is affected

Traumatized teeth present a clinical challenge with regard to their diagnosis, treatment plan and prognosis. The injuries to the permanent dentition include crown and root fractures, subluxations, luxations and tooth avulsion. Common complications are pulp necrosis, periapical pathosis and root resorption. This article will describe new clinical modalities for the treatment of avulsed teeth and discuss the rational for their use.

Transplantation and replantation of teeth are effective therapeutic approaches for tooth repositioning and avulsion, respectively. Transplantation involves transplanting an extracted tooth from the original site into another site, regenerating tissue including the periodontal ligament (PDL) and alveolar bone, around the transplanted tooth. Replantation places the avulsed tooth back to its original site, regenerating functional periodontal tissue. In clinical settings, transplantation and replantation result in favorable outcomes with regenerated PDL tissue in many cases. However, they often re

This paper presents a comparison of the outcome of two cases where teeth, avulsed in sporting accidents, were replanted in general dental practice and have been reviewed for 5 years. Avulsed teeth which were stored dry, had a long extra-alveolar period and were splinted for a longer period of time, ultimately underwent replacement root resorption (case 1). There was no evidence of resorption, after 5 years, in the tooth that was stored in the patient's own saliva and was replanted within 45 minutes of being avulsed (case 2). The replantation procedure for these two cases was based on recent li
