Immediate tooth replantation: root canal filling for delayed initiation of endodontic treatment.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the action of paramonochlorophenol associated with Furacin followed by calcium hydroxide (CH) dressing in the control of inflammatory root resorption in cases of immediate tooth replantation with delayed endodontic treatment. A total of 28 incisors of 3 male dogs were extracted and replanted after 15 minutes, and randomly divided into 3 groups: Group I (n = 8) - endodontic treatment was performed before the extraction and replantation; Group II (n = 10) - endodontic treatment was performed 30 days after replantation and the root canal was filled with CH dre

Effect of bisphosphonates on root resorption after tooth replantation - a systematic review.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Replantation of avulsed teeth may lead to root resorption. Bisphosphonates (BPs), a class of drugs of used to treat resorptive diseases of the bone such as osteoporosis and Paget's disease, have been observed to exert an antiresorptive effect on periodontal bone as well. The antiresorptive properties of BPs could prove them useful in preventing root resorption of replanted avulsed teeth. The aim of this systematic review was to analyze and summarize the currently available literature concerning the use of BPs in preventing root resorption of avulsed teeth. MATERIALS AND METHOD

Apical External Root Resorption and Repair in Orthodontic Tooth Movement: Biological Events.

Some degree of external root resorption is a frequent, unpredictable, and unavoidable consequence of orthodontic tooth movement mediated by odontoclasts/cementoclasts originating from circulating precursor cells in the periodontal ligament. Its pathogenesis involves mechanical forces initiating complex interactions between signalling pathways activated by various biological agents. Resorption of cementum is regulated by mechanisms similar to those controlling osteoclastogenesis and bone resorption. Following root resorption there is repair by cellular cementum, but factors mediating the transi

Effect of interleukin-4 on orthodontic tooth movement and associated root resorption.

OBJECTIVES: Interleukin-4 (IL-4) is a recognized immunomodulatory cytokine that regulates bone homeostasis. However, the influence of IL-4 on orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) and subsequent root resorption is still unknown. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of IL-4 on tooth movement and its associated root resorption in a mouse model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The maxillary first molars of four male mice for each experimental group were subjected to mesial force by a nickel titanium coil spring for 12 days. Control mice were not given appliances and injections. V

Ultrasound stimulation attenuates resorption of tooth root induced by experimental force application.

Root resorption is an adverse outcome of orthodontic tooth movement. However, there have been no available approaches for the protection and repair of root resorption. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) on root resorption during experimental tooth movement and the effects of LIPUS in the RANKL/OPG mechanism in osteoblasts and cementoblasts in vitro. Twenty four Wistar strain male rats of 12-week-old were used in this study. The upper first molars were subjected to experimental movement in the mesial direction for 1-3weeks. Through the e

Conservative management of progressive external inflammatory root resorption after traumatic tooth intrusion.

Intrusive luxation is one of the most severe types of dental trauma. The risk of development of inflammatory or replacement root resorption is high if not timely managed. Endodontic intervention is required soon after the occurrence of trauma, in an attempt to prevent or delay inflammatory root resorption. This case report emphasized timely referral for endodontic management of intruded tooth to prevent inflammatory root resorption.

Anterior tooth root morphology and size in Neanderthals: taxonomic and functional implications.

Comparing modern humans and Neanderthals, we have previously shown that recent modern humans (RMH) and Neanderthals differ in anterior root lengths, and that this difference cannot be explained by group differences in overall mandibular size. Here, we first document the evolutionary changes of root size and shape of the anterior upper and lower dentition in a broad chronological and geographical framework. We then use the size and shape differences between RMH and Neanderthals to classify several isolated teeth from Kebara cave and Steinheim, and to interpret the anterior tooth roots of the Ta

Root resorption after experimental tooth movement using superelastic forces in the rat.

The purpose of this study was to assess the rate of root resorption in relation to different magnitudes of continuous force during experimental tooth movement using nickel-titanium (NiTi) alloy wire. Four force magnitudes of 0.8, 1.6, 4, and 8 g were applied to the upper first molars of 75 male Wistar rats (300-320 g, 10-week-old) for 1, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days and compared with a control group without an orthodontic appliance. Light microscopic images of the compressed periodontal ligament (PDL) were processed by computer, and the ratio of the root resorption lacuna length to root surface leng

Case of Pulp Regeneration Following Autologous Transplantation of an Incompletely Rooted Tooth.

Autologous tooth transplantation is a procedure that involves the replacement of a natural tooth with another at a new site or a surgically created recipient wound. With an appropriate selection of indications, studies report over 90% survival rates for transplanted teeth, even after 10 years. In this report, we presented a case of an incomplete rooted maxillary right third molar that was transplanted into the mandibular right first molar area. We also evaluated the stability of periodontal tissue, root development, and pulp regeneration after autologous tooth transplantation. The patient was

FHL2 DNA methylation in tooth root surfaces as a tool for age estimation.

Age-at-death estimation is critical in forensic investigations, particularly for skeletal and dental remains. Accurate age estimation is essential for constructing biological profiles in forensic investigations. DNA methylation, particularly in age-related genes such as FHL2, has emerged as a promising epigenetic marker for this purpose. While previous studies have applied methylation assays to the entire tooth, these methods often result in the destruction of the dental structures. In this study, we assessed whether FHL2 methylation levels measured using methylation-sensitive high-resolution

Characterisation of Roseomonas mucosa isolated from the root canal of an infected tooth.

OBJECTIVE: The genus Roseomonas comprises a group of pink-pigmented, slow-growing, aerobic, non-fermentative Gram-negative bacteria, which have been isolated from environmental sources such as water and soil, but are also associated with human infections. In the study presented here, Roseomonas mucosa was identified for the first time as part of the endodontic microbiota of an infected root canal and characterised in respect to growth, antibiotic susceptibility and biofilm formation. RESULTS: The isolated R. mucosa strain showed strong slime formation and was resistant to most β-lactam antibi

Effects of pulpectomy on the amount of root resorption during orthodontic tooth movement.

INTRODUCTION: Previous studies have revealed that orthodontic force affects dental pulp via the rupture of blood vessels and vacuolization of pulp tissues. We hypothesized that pulp tissues express inflammatory cytokines and regulators of odontoclast differentiation after excess orthodontic force. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of tensile force in human pulp cells and to measure inflammatory root resorption during tooth movement in pulpless rat teeth. METHODS: After cyclic tensile force application in human pulp cells, gene expression and protein concentration of mac

Transparent tooth model system. An aid in the study of root canal anatomy.

Clearing techniques of tooth have long since been advocated in the demonstration of root canal anatomy. We have compared the efficacy of various clearing agents such as Xylene, Benzene, Methyl salicylate and Eugenol, using 40 maxillary second premolars as experimental subjects. We have further tried to select a suitable dye for the demonstration of root canal anatomy and have compared the efficacy of various mounting media such as D.P.X. medium, Canada balsam and Commercial plastic dissolved in benzene, in preserving the cleared state. Results of our study indicate that Eugenol is a superior c

BMP signaling in the development and regeneration of tooth roots: from mechanisms to applications.

Short root anomaly (SRA), along with caries, periodontitis, and trauma, can cause tooth loss, affecting the physical and mental health of patients. Dental implants have become widely utilized for tooth restoration; however, they exhibit certain limitations compared to natural tooth roots. Tissue engineering-mediated root regeneration offers a strategy to sustain a tooth with a physiologically more natural function by regenerating the bioengineered tooth root (bio-root) based on the bionic principle. While the process of tooth root development has been reported in previous studies, the specific
