We describe a case of cardiac sarcoidosis manifested by arrhythmias, shock, chest pain, mitral valve prolapse and incompetence, aortic vascular involvement. Steroid therapy corrected shock and arrhythmias, but was unable to prevent the progression of the mitral valve insufficiency. Subsequently pulmonary and tricuspid valve incompetence were also observed.

Bone cement leakage is a common complication after percutaneous kyphoplasty. In rare cases, leakage into the venous system occurs, which can be life-threatening, especially when it embolizes the heart. Here, we present a case of cement embolization of the right ventricle with tricuspid valve involvement. A 69-year-old woman with an asymptomatic severe tricuspid valve regurgitation was referred to our department. She had a history of balloon kyphoplasty because of osteoporotic collapsed vertebrae in 2010. Echocardiography showed a foreign body attached to the right ventricle, prolapsing into th

Marfan syndrome (MFS) is a progressive connective tissue disease with a broad range of clinical manifestations. We sought to establish the spectrum of structural valvular abnormalities as cardiovascular involvement has been identified as the most life-threatening aspect of the syndrome. This was a systematic review with a meta-analysis of studies indexed in Medline from the inception of the database to November 7, 2022. Using the random-effects model, separate Forest and Galbraith plots were generated for each valvular abnormality assessed. Heterogeneity was assessed using the I2 statistics wh

Myxomatous degeneration generally involves the atrioventricular valves (mitral and tricuspid). Rarely, it may affect the aortic or pulmonary valve. We report a case of an acute severe aortic insufficiency due to a rupture of a commissure of the aortic valve in a patient who had previously undergone mitral valve surgery for myxomatous mitral valve prolapse.

Cardiospondylocarpofacial syndrome (CSCF; MIM#157800) is a rare condition caused by monoallelic variants in the MAP3K7 gene. The characteristic features of CSCF include growth retardation, facial dysmorphism, carpal-tarsal fusion, dorsal spine synostosis, deafness, inner ear malformation, cardiac septal defect and valve dysplasia. We present here a 20-week-old fetus with cardiospondylocarpofacial syndrome arising from a de novo variant c.616T>G p.(Tyr206Asp) in the MAP3K7 (NM_145331.3) gene with early and severe tricuspid valve dysplasia as a prenatal manifestation. A 30-year-old male patient presented with Glanzmann's thrombasthenia and mitral valve prolapse. He was in acute decompensated congestive heart failure due to severe mitral and tricuspid regurgitation. After his cardiac failure had been stabilized, the patient was subjected to mitral and tricuspid valve repair. His transfusion requirements were guided by thrombelastography and his bleeding disorder was managed by infusing single donor plasmapheresed platelet transfusions in the perioperative period. The patient underwent surgery uneventfully.

The patterns of valve motion were analyzed in 14 patients with combined aortic and mitral valve prolapse by two-dimensional echocardiography. Four patients have also tricuspid valve prolapse. In one we could find evidence of a myxomatous pulmonic valve with prolapse of the posterior cusp. By two-dimensional echocardiography all patients had redundant aortic leaflets bulging into left ventricular outflow tract during diastole. M-mode examination of the aorta was normal in five patients; eccentricity of the diastolic aortic valve echo was found in two patients; seven showed multiple echoes from

Despite recent renewed interest in the detection of tricuspid valve regurgitation by echocardiographic and Doppler techniques, little morphologic information is available on dysfunctioning tricuspid valves. This report describes 45 necropsy patients with clinical and morphologic evidence of pure (no element of stenosis) tricuspid regurgitation and provides morphometric observations (anular circumference, leaflet area) of the tricuspid valve useful in determining the etiology of pure tricuspid regurgitation. Of 45 patients, 24 (53%) had pure tricuspid regurgitation resulting from an anatomicall

Adult polycystic kidney disease is associated with frequent extrarenal manifestations. Previous studies have reported a increased incidence of cardiovascular abnormalities, in particular of mitral and tricuspid-valve prolapse, and multivalvular incompetence. These findings lends support to the hypothesis that autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease is a disorder of connective tissue. A mitral-valve prolapse, and multivalvular incompetence was detected in a 75-year old patient with a polycystic kidney disease. The cardiovascular abnormalities published in the literature are review.

Cardiac valve lesions after a blunt chest trauma are rare and less than 1% of cardiac lesions because of chest trauma affect the tricuspid valve. We report a 70 year-old female that suffered a severe chest trauma in a car accident. During the repair of the multiple skeletal lesions, the patient had a severe hemodynamic decompensation. A myocardial trauma with pericardial effusion and massive tricuspid insufficiency, due to anterior leaflet prolapse, was diagnosed on echocardiography. After discharge the patient remained in functional class II, with hepatomegaly, jugular ingurgitation and lower

Mitral valve repair was performed in six patients by transferring the posterior tricuspid leaflet with its sub-valvular apparatus onto the mitral valve. This new technique considers the tricuspid valve as the patients own tissue bank where the posterior leaflet and eventually the adjacent part of the anterior leaflet is used as a "donor" valve, based on the knowledge that the right atrio-ventricular valve can be efficiently repaired with a very low risk of significant dysfunction. The mitral repair consists of incorporating the tricuspid autograft by securing the tricuspid papillary muscle to

Valvuloannuloplasty for atrioventricular (AV) valvular regurgitation was performed in 13 patients with univentricular AV connection and double outlet right ventricle. The suturing-up of free margins of the anterior and posterior common leaflets, which divides the common orifice into two parts, was performed in 4 children with quadricuspid or quintacuspid common AV valve and effectively reduced the regurgitation. The semicircular annuloplasty with a thin GORE-TEX graft was carried out in two patients having tricuspid AV valve, and a favourable result was obtained. In bicuspid AV valvular regurg

Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene sutures have been used for replacement of chordae tendineae since 1985. They have been used for correction of prolapse of mitral and tricuspid valve leaflets as well as for resuspension of the papillary muscles during mitral valve replacement when the native chordae cannot be preserved to maintain continuity between the mitral annulus and papillary muscles. The sutures used were 5CV Gore-Tex for replacement of the chordae tendineae of the anterior leaflet and 6CV for the posterior leaflet and commissural areas of the mitral valve. Initially one suture was used

We present a case involving a rare form of cyanotic congenital heart disease in a 2-month-old neonate. The initial diagnosis was thought to be tricuspid dysplasia with right-to-left shunting through an interatrial communication. However, surgery showed the presence of a pedunculated mass that prolapsed into the tricuspid valve orifice, thereby causing severe obstruction to right ventricular filling. This mass was attached to the lower part of the atrial septum. Pathological examination showed fibrotic myxoid tissue. After the mass was resected surgically, the tricuspid valve appeared normal. W

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate pediatric atrioventricular valve repair with artificial chordae.
METHODS: Between February 2001 and January 2006, artificial chords were used in 21 children with severe mitral or tricuspid valve regurgitation. Patients with AVSD were excluded. Median age was 84 (1-194) months. Five patients had isolated tricuspid valve anomalies, 16 had mitral valve anomalies (associated tricuspid annular dilatation in 4). Tricuspid neochordae were placed to anterior (three patients) and septal (two patients) leaflets. Mitral neochordae were placed to anterior (15 patients) and posterio

M-mode echocardiographic studies were performed in 11 patients, most of them adults, with Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve, proven by cardiac catheterisation. Simultaneous recordings of the tricuspid and mitral valves were obtained in all cases, the transducer position being outside the left midclavicular line in seven patients. Tricuspid valve closure followed mitral valve closure in all cases, with an interval ranging between 0.04 and 0.14 s. Since, in more than 8500 routine echocardiographic studies a valve closure interval between 0.09 and 0.12 s was seen in only one patient withou

UNLABELLED: While accessory mitral valves have been reported in association with ventricular outflow obstruction of Noonan syndrome, accessory tricuspid valves remain extremely rare. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first well-documented case report of this unique combination. We report a 2-month-old male infant with myocardial hypertrophy, who presented with progressive right ventricular outflow tract obstruction (RVOTO) caused by accessory tricuspid valve tissue. At referral, echocardiography revealed severe RVOTO due to the prolapse of accessory tricuspid valve tissue during systol

OBJECTIVE: A modified technique for tricuspid valve repair in Ebstein's anomaly restructures the valve mechanism at the level of the true tricuspid anulus by using the most mobile leaflet for valve closure without plication of the atrialized chamber. Midterm results of this therapeutic approach for patients with Ebstein's anomaly and tricuspid valve incompetence are reported.
METHODS: Between October 1988 and April 1997, the incompetent tricuspid valve was repaired with our technique in 19 patients (12 female, 7 male; 2 to 54 years, mean 21 years). The indication for operation was congestive

A 77-year-old man had a large right atrial (RA) thrombus associated with a combined mitral and tricuspid valve disease. Echocardiography showed a large, immobile, non-homogeneous, irregularly surfaced mass in the dilated RA, and prolapse of the anterior mitral leaflet resulting in massive mitral regurgitation. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a laminated structure with calcification and distinct margins, without invasion to the wall of the RA. On the basis of these echocardiographic and CT findings, a diagnosis of combined mitral and tricuspid valvular disease complicated with RA thrombus was
