Oculocutaneous albinism (OCA) is a heterogenous disorder of skin pigmentation characterized by hypopigmentation of the skin, hair, and eyes. The absence of melanin predisposes these individuals to ultraviolet rays induced malignancies. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in OCA have been rarely reported. Malignant melanoma (MM) of the skin is also very rarely reported. Synchronous BCC, SCC, and MM are exceedingly rare. We report one such case managed successfully with surgical treatment. All the three malignancies were localized cancers and hence the outcome was good.

Previous measurements of the X-ray absorption spectra of PbCl2 at the chlorine K-edge have shown significant variation between different studies. Herein, using first principles simulations of X-ray absorption spectroscopy, we show that the observed spectral variations are due to the generation of Cl2 gas and depletion of chlorine from PbCl2, consistent with what is observed during ultraviolet absorption for the same compound. A cloned mouse embryo-derived fibroblast cell line was used to study morphological transformation induced by X-rays and 254-nm ultraviolet light (UV). The transformation frequency increased exponentially with increasing dose from 10 to 400 rads for X-rays and 1.0 to 7.5 J/sq m for UV exposure. Split-dose X-ray exposures led to an enhancement in transformation at total doses below 100 rads and a reduction at doses of 300 to 400 rads. In this study, the effects of Ultraviolet light-emitting diodes (UV-LEDs) on the inactivation of E. coli K12 (ATCC 25253), an indicator organism of E. coli O157:H7, and polyphneoloxidase (PPO) in cloudy apple juice (CAJ) were investigated. METHODS: Phage YP060 was isolated from Yunnan plague focus by double-layer agar plate method with attenuated vaccine Yersinia pestis strain EV76 as the host bacterium. A 49-year-old man with extensive porokeratosis of Mibelli (PM) developed a squamous cell carcinoma and several carcinomas-in-situ within the lesional skin. The patient also had diabetes mellitus and a short stature with a prematurely aged appearance. The patient's father and two siblings also had PM. The patient died from metastatic squamous cell carcinoma, and at autopsy an adenocarcinoma of the descending colon was also found. Harmful blue rays (HBRs, 400-450 nm) originating from the sun and numerous electronic devices are similar to ultraviolet rays (UVRs) and can induce skin photoaging.
