A method for estimating the impact of new vaccine technologies on vaccination coverage rates.

Vaccines are one of the most cost-effective tools for improving human health and well-being. The impact of a vaccine on population health is partly determined by its coverage rate, the proportion of eligible individuals vaccinated. Coverage rate is a function of the vaccine presentation and the population in which that presentation is deployed. This population includes not only the individuals vaccinated, but also the logistics and healthcare systems responsible for vaccine delivery. Because vaccine coverage rates remain below targets in many settings, vaccine manufacturers and purchasers have

Vaccination coverage levels among children enrolled in the Vaccine Safety Datalink.

INTRODUCTION: The Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD) is a collaborative project whose infrastructure provides comprehensive medical and immunization histories for more than 9 million adults and children annually, a predominantly insured population. This study provides the coverage rates of recommended vaccines among children 19-35 months in the VSD from 2005 through 2010. We examine the consistency in vaccine coverage levels, detect possible trends, and evaluate any effect of vaccine shortages on coverage in the VSD. METHODS: We included data from all 10 VSD sites, and examined each year independe

Estimation of vaccine efficacy and critical vaccination coverage in partially observed outbreaks.

Classical approaches to estimate vaccine efficacy are based on the assumption that a person's risk of infection does not depend on the infection status of others. This assumption is untenable for infectious disease data where such dependencies abound. We present a novel approach to estimating vaccine efficacy in a Bayesian framework using disease transmission models. The methodology is applied to outbreaks of mumps in primary schools in the Netherlands. The total study population consisted of 2,493 children in ten primary schools, of which 510 (20%) were known to have been infected, and 832 (3

Vaccination against meningococcus C. vaccinal coverage in the French target population.

UNLABELLED: Immunization against meningococcus C has been recommended in France since 2009 (infants from 12 to 24 months of age, and catch up vaccination up to 25 years of age). It has been reimbursed since January 2010. We had for aim to assess the vaccine coverage in 2011. METHOD: The study population included mothers of children targeted by the recommendation. They were recruited using Internet data (quotas based on the French National Institute of Statistics (INSEE) data based on a census made in 2007) based on the Institut des Mamans panel and its partners. The mothers had completed a st

The role of vaccine coverage within social networks in cholera vaccine efficacy.

BACKGROUND: Traditional vaccine trial methods have an underlying assumption that the effect of a vaccine is the same throughout the trial area. There are, however, many spatial and behavioral factors that alter the rates of contact among infectious and susceptible individuals and result in different efficacies across a population. We reanalyzed data from a field trial in Bangladesh to ascertain whether there is evidence of indirect protection from cholera vaccines when vaccination rates are high in an individual's social network. METHODS: We analyzed the first year of surveillance data from a

[Are medical students sufficiently vaccinated? Results of a serological survey and of vaccine coverage].

A total of 143 medical students participated in a serological and immunization coverage survey in Geneva. Between 29 and 54% had not received the 6 injections recommended in Switzerland against tetanus, diphtheria and poliomyelitis. The vaccination rates remain low against measles (57%), rubella (46%) and mumps (11%). Satisfactory levels of antibodies against measles were detected in all students. Between 4 and 6% did not have antibodies against mumps, varicella and rubella. Only 5.4% of Swiss medical students had antibodies against hepatitis A. HBc antibodies were present in 4% of the student

Evaluation of vaccination coverage in Brazilian regions from 2000 to 2022.

In recent years, there has been a drop in vaccination coverage, which favors the reintroduction of vaccine-preventable diseases that are already being eliminated. The objective of this study is to evaluate vaccination coverage in Brazil from 2000 to 2022. This is an ecological time-trend study based on secondary data of individuals aged 0 to over 60 years in Brazil and its regions. Joinpoint regression was used to identify significant changes in trends over time. The dependent variable was general vaccination coverage, and the independent variables included geographic region and year, enabling

Trends in pediatric vaccination coverage in Italy from 2000 to 2023.

Vaccination represents one of the most effective public health interventions. However, a decrease in pediatric vaccination coverage has been observed in Italy, with an increase in vaccine-preventable infectious diseases. To counter this phenomenon, the Italian government approved a compulsory vaccination law in 2017, increasing the number of mandatory vaccinations from four to 10. This study analyzes the trends of vaccination coverages in Italy from 2000 to 2023, with a focus on the impact of the law. Vaccination coverage data were obtained from the Italian Ministry of Health, sorted by antige

Global vaccination coverage and disease incidence in cattle, pigs, and poultry.

Vaccination against livestock diseases is an effective method to prevent and control the spread of pathogens and reduce antimicrobial consumption and livestock production losses. Systematic data on global vaccination coverage could unlock opportunities to expand these outcomes. In this study, we estimate annual vaccination coverage and disease incidence for 104 cattle, porcine, and poultry diseases in 203 reporting countries and territories between 2005 and 2025 using data from the World Animal Health Information System, the Food and Agriculture Organization, and published literature. We provi

Vaccination coverage among older adults: a population-based study in India.

OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence and explore the predictors of vaccine uptake among older adults in India. METHODS: We used data from the national Longitudinal Ageing Study in India, a national household survey conducted during 2017-2018. Based on interviewees' self-reports, we calculated population-weighted estimates of the uptake of influenza, pneumococcal, typhoid and hepatitis B vaccines among 64 714 Indian adults aged 45 years or older. We performed multivariable binary logistic regression analysis to examine the sociodemographic and health-related predictors of uptake of the vaccin

Vaccination perception and coverage among healthcare students in France in 2019.

BACKGROUND: Vaccine hesitancy in healthcare workers has been increasing especially in France while they are the cornerstone of vaccination programs. Greater understanding of healthcare students (HCS) vaccine knowledge, attitudes and beliefs is necessary to provide an adequate vaccination education to better equip them to promote vaccination in their future careers. The aim of this study was to assess vaccination perception (VP) (perception of benefits and risks of vaccines) and its impact on vaccination coverage (VC) for mandatory and recommended vaccines among HCS. METHODS: A standardized, a

Maximization of Livestock Anthrax Vaccination Coverage in Bangladesh: An Alternative Approach.

Low vaccination coverage of livestock is one of the major challenges to control anthrax in Bangladesh. This study was conducted to assess an alternate approach to maximize vaccination coverage. The method included traditional vaccination campaigns, livestock census, interviews, focus group discussions of cattle farmers, vaccination and livestock personnel, and validation workshops. It was observed that a mass vaccination program covered only 44% of the cattle population. It was found that 54.1% of the respondents did not bring their cattle to mass vaccination programs due to the difficulties o

Validity of parental recalls to estimate vaccination coverage: evidence from Tanzania.

BACKGROUND: The estimates of vaccination coverage are measured from administrative data and from population based survey. While both card-based and recall data are collected through population survey, and the recall is when the card is missing, the preferred estimates remain of the card-based due to limited validity of parental recalls. As there is a concern of missing cards in poor settings, the evidence on validity of parental recalls is limited and varied across vaccine types, and therefore timely and needed. We validated the recalls against card-based data based on population survey in Tan

Vaccination Coverage Among Children Aged 19-35 Months - United States, 2015.

Sustained high coverage with recommended vaccinations among children has kept many vaccine-preventable diseases at low levels in the United States (1). To assess coverage with vaccinations recommended for children by age 2 years in the United States (2), CDC analyzed data collected by the 2015 National Immunization Survey (NIS) for children aged 19-35 months (born January 2012-May 2014). Overall, coverage did not change during 2014-2015. Coverage in 2015 was highest for ≥3 doses of poliovirus vaccine (93.7%), ≥3 doses of hepatitis B vaccine (HepB) (92.6%), ≥1 dose of measles, mumps, and rubell
