Spread of vaccine hesitancy in France: What about YouTube™?

OBJECTIVES: This work characterises the information about vaccination available on YouTube™ in France. METHODS: YouTube™ (www.YouTube.com) was searched using "vaccines" as a keyword. Videos in French with at least 10,000 views were identified. For each video, specific descriptive information including the opinion on vaccination was identified. To study the anti-vaccine reaction linked to a change in French policy on vaccination, the main arguments used in videos with negative opinions on vaccination uploaded in 2017 and 2018 were also collected. RESULTS: We identified 166 videos: 120 (72.2%)

'Hesitant compliers': Qualitative analysis of concerned fully-vaccinating parents.

OBJECTIVE: Some parents are hesitant about vaccines and yet still vaccinate their children. Vaccine behaviours are not fixed and parents who are concerned but nonetheless adherent to standard schedules could switch to an unconventional schedule, delaying or cherry-picking vaccines. There is a need to better understand vaccine hesitancy in specific contexts, acknowledging cultural and geographical variation, to ensure interventions targeting hesitancy are well directed and received. METHODS: To identify the behaviours, knowledge and attitudes of 'hesitant compliers' in Perth, Western Australia

Vaccines, Bias, and the Perils of Non-peer-reviewed Studies: Fueling Misinformation and Vaccine Hesitancy.

Unvetted scientific claims about vaccines can spread rapidly and undermine decades of progress in immunization and public trust. A recent non-peer-reviewed analysis, promoted at political hearings, in the documentary "An Inconvenient Study," and on social media, has been used to suggest that vaccinated children experience higher rates of chronic illness than unvaccinated peers. Despite standard regression models, critical flaws - uncontrolled confounding, exposure misclassification, unequal follow-up, and outcome multiplicity, invalidate causal inference. An independent group of international

A systematic review of the determinants of vaccine hesitancy in the UK: Implications for future TB vaccine adoption.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) is a deadly yet vaccine-preventable disease mostly affecting adolescents and adults. Novel TB vaccines are now emerging, particularly for these populations; however, vaccine hesitancy, characterised by delays, doubts or refusal to seek or accept vaccines, poses a challenge for sufficient adoption once these vaccines become available. Thus, this review systematically explored system- and individual-level determinants of vaccine hesitancy among adults in the UK, interpreting implications for the adoption of novel TB vaccines. METHODS: Five databases systematically

Assessing vaccine hesitancy and support for vaccination requirements for pets and potential Spillovers from humans.

BACKGROUND: Growing vaccination hesitancy is well-document among humans. However, we know very little about vaccination hesitancy for pets as well as whether the two phenomena are interconnected. Moreover, support for pet vaccination requirements also remain underassessed. METHODS: We fielded a large, national survey (N = 3,958) on August 18 and August 19, 2023, to assess U.S. public opinion about the vaccination status of dogs (rabies, canine parvovirus, canine distemper, canine influenza, and Lyme disease) and cats (rabies, feline panleukopenia (parvo), feline herpesvirus-1, feline chlamydi

COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy and Associated Oral Cholera Vaccine Hesitancy in a Cholera-Endemic Country: A Community-Based Cross-Sectional Study in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and its enablers shape community uptake of non-covid vaccines such as the oral cholera vaccine (OCV) in the post-COVID-19 era. This study assessed the impact of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and its drivers on OCV hesitancy in a cholera-endemic region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. We conducted a community-based survey in Bukavu. The survey included demographics, intention to take OCV and COVID-19 vaccines, reasons for COVID-19 hesitancy, and thoughts and feelings about COVID-19 vaccines. Poisson regression analyses were performed. Of the 1708 respondents, 84.66%

Monkeypox (MPOX)-Related Knowledge and Vaccination Hesitancy in Non-Endemic Countries: Concise Literature Review.

In May 2022, the world witnessed the emergence of human monkeypox (MPOX), a new zoonotic viral disease in multiple non-endemic countries. This health threat has been associated with increased anxiety, especially after the COVID-19 catastrophe. In addition, people are exposed to an unprecedented amount of information, making them vulnerable to misinformation that may lead to embracing conspiracy theories. This literature review was conducted to evaluate the levels of MPOX-related knowledge and attitudes toward its vaccination by reviewing studies indexed in MEDLINE® until 15 November 2022. A to

COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy and associated factors among solid organ transplant recipients in China.

The mortality rate from COVID-19 appears to be higher in solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients when compared with other populations. Vaccination is a key strategy to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it is unclear how readily SOT recipients will get vaccinated against COVID-19. We conducted an internet-based survey to investigate the vaccination willingness among Chinese SOT recipients and further explore possible influencing factors. Eight hundred and thirteen respondents participated in the survey. Overall, 46 (5.7%) recipients were vaccinated against COVID-19, while 767 (94.3%) were

The role of social influence on COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy and acceptance in Tanzania.

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy and acceptance remain critical public health concerns, influenced by socio-cultural factors globally. Social influence - particularly conformity, compliance and obedience - influence vaccination intentions, decisions and behaviours based on the information circulated by the people already vaccinated. Understanding these dynamics is essential for promotion vaccine uptake through reassuring the hesitant about the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine. AIM: We explored the influence of social influence on COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy and acceptance

Has the COVID-19 pandemic affected general vaccination hesitancy? Findings from a national study.

Extensive media coverage and potential controversy about COVID-19 vaccination during the pandemic may have affected people's general attitudes towards vaccination. We sought to describe key psychological antecedents related to vaccination and assess how these vary temporally in relationship to the pandemic and availability of COVID-19 vaccination. As part of an ongoing online study, we recruited a national (U.S.) sample of young gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (N = 1,227) between October 2019 and June 2021, and assessed the "4Cs" (antecedents of vaccination; range = 1-5). SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination in India: Considerations of Hesitancy and Bioethics in Global Health.

INTRODUCTION: Worldwide mass vaccination against SARS-CoV-2, while having been the most critical action in combating further waves of COVID-19, was initially fraught with multiple infrastructural and socio-cultural challenges. Vaccine hesitancy, a phenomenon of doubt over the vaccines' claimed efficacy and/or safety amidst access to vaccination, emerged as a major challenge for global health, despite approval and regular post-marketing surveillance by major regulatory bodies. METHODS: We reviewed the literature related to vaccine hesitancy in India published until November 14, 2021 using rele

COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and missed vaccine rollout targets: The case for using general practitioners.

The South African (SA) government's roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccine is behind its target, largely owing to concerns about the sideeffects and the effectiveness of the vaccines, and because they have been developed over a very short time frame. Another factor is a lack of trust in government policies regarding COVID-19 and its running of public health. One survey has indicated that for persons seeking a vaccination, the preferred vaccine site would be general practitioners (GPs). GPs have been used in Australia, the UK and elsewhere. In Australia, with a scattered rural population, 5 600 GPs h
