PURPOSE: This study was designed to investigate the efficacy of the AngioSeal vascular closure device after antegrade puncture of the femoral artery.
METHODS: In a prospective study, 120 consecutive patients underwent lower limb vascular intervention by an antegrade access to the common femoral artery (CFA). After intervention, a 6F (n = 88) or an 8F (n = 32) AngioSeal vascular closure device was used to achieve hemostasis. The technical success or the cause of failure was documented. In addition, the coagulation status (platelets, INR, prothrombin time, atrial thromboplastin time (PTT)), hyp

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has established itself as a safe and efficient treatment option in patients with severe aortic valve stenosis, regardless of the underlying surgical risk. Widespread adoption of transfemoral procedures led to more patients than ever being eligible for TAVR. This increase in procedural volumes has also stimulated the use of vascular closure devices (VCDs) for improved access site management. In a single-center examination, we investigated 871 patients that underwent transfemoral TAVR from 2010 to 2020 and assessed vascular complications according to

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of two different closure devices in patients undergoing rescue percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) using IIb/IIIa inhibitors and to compare it with patients undergoing elective PCI. One hundred sixty-two patients undergoing rescue PCI treated with IIb/IIIa inhibitors underwent vascular access site closure (6 Fr Perclose, n = 92, or 6 Fr Angioseal, n = 70). Vascular complications were compared with a sex- and age-matched group (n = 100) of patients undergoing manual compression after sheath removal and a similar group of patient

OBJECTIVE: Membrane damage at or near the uterine entry site is a prevalent complication of fetal surgery and may result in chorioamniotic separation (CAS), preterm prelabor rupture of membranes (PPROM) and preterm birth. Transamniotic transuterine suturing approaches offer the potential to reduce the prevalence of CAS and PPROM accompanying fetoscopy, with the overarching aim of reducing preterm birth. This study aimed to explore the feasibility and potential efficacy of employing a novel vascular closure device for transamniotic transuterine suturing in a sheep model of fetoscopic surgery.

A man in his early 70s presented to the emergency department about 3.5 hours after acute onset right sided hemiplegia and aphasia. CT angiography confirmed an acute occlusion of the M1 segment of the left middle cerebral artery and severe, but stable, dissection of the aortic arch and a large dissecting aortic aneurysm extending into the innominate artery and beyond into the descending aorta. The risk of aggravating existing aortic pathology while trying to navigate from a transfemoral or transradial approach was considered to be very high; therefore, the decision was made to proceed with dire

OBJECTIVES: To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of the techniques and outcomes associated with percutaneous decannulation of venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) using the Manta vascular closure device.
BACKGROUND: Peripheral VA-ECMO can be used to treat critically ill patients with conditions such as refractory cardiogenic shock. After percutaneous implantation of VA-ECMO, VA-ECMO can also be decannulated completely percutaneously by using a vascular closure device. The Manta vascular closure device is a dedicated device used in the closure of large-bore ar

BACKGROUND: Vascular complications (VCs) after transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) have an increased mortality risk, and vascular closure device (VCD) use is mandatory. The percutaneous MANTA VCD (Teleflex) is a novel collagen-based technology for closure of large-bore arteriotomies. We compared the MANTA VCD with the suture-based ProGlide VCD (Abbott Vascular).
METHODS: A retrospective review was performed on all consecutive patients who underwent transfemoral TAVI in our center from January 1, 2015, to February 28, 2021, and 30-day outcomes were recorded. Major adver

Percutaneous intervention is widely used to treat peripheral vascular disease. Ipsilateral antegrade femoral arterial access for femoropopliteal disease provides a mechanical advantage with regard to wire and stent control; however, it is associated with vascular complications and significant morbidity and mortality secondary to retroperitoneal hemorrhage from a high puncture site or vascular closure device (VCD) failure. Currently, resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) is performed as damage control surgery in patients with non-compressible torso hemorrhage. We des

Background/Objectives: Plug-based vascular closure devices (Pb-VCDs) are routinely used in 14 and 18 French (F) size for percutaneous vascular access site closure during transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Recently, larger 18F Pb-VCDs were linked to increased incidence of vascular complications in randomized comparisons. Smaller 14F devices are hypothesized to decrease the incidence of vascular complications, but real-world data on their safety in routine clinical practice is scarce. Methods: We performed a retrospective, propensity score-matched comparison of patients

ObjectivesEndovascular treatment (EVT) of lower extremity artery disease (LEAD) is minimally invasive and has good safety and efficacy. Puncture site complications are common in EVT, but these and the hemostatic time have been reduced by newer hemostatic devices such as ExoSeal. However, factors affecting poor outcomes after use of ExoSeal are unclear. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify these factors after ExoSeal deployment in EVT.Material and MethodsA retrospective study was performed for 868 cases in which hemostasis was attempted using ExoSeal between 2019 and 2023. BACKGROUND: Pulmonary artery-to-left atrial fistula is a variant of pulmonary arteriovenous fistula and is a developmental anomaly. Delayed presentation, cyanosis and effort intolerance are some of the important features. The diagnosis is confirmed by computed tomography or pulmonary artery angiography. Catheter-based closure is preferred to surgery.
CASE SUMMARY: Left pulmonary artery-to-left atrial fistula is rare. A 40-year-old male presented with effort intolerance, central cyanosis, and recurrent seizures. He had a large and highly tortuous left pulmonary artery-to-left atrial fistula as

Vascular closing devices (VCDs) are widely used to replace manual compression at the femoral puncture site and to reduce the discomfort of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary procedure by shortening bed rest. Among the vascular complications related to these devices, the femoral artery stenosis or occlusion is rarely reported, and its standard management is not well established. We report a case of symptomatic femoral artery stenosis caused by suture-mediated VCD and managed using rotational atherectomy device and balloon angioplasty. In addition, we propose the possible mechanisms for t
