In breech presentation near term the prophylactic external cephalic version using tocolytic drugs represents a modern practice. This method needs a critical valuation. Report about 23 external versions with assistance of tocolytic drugs and insufflation anesthesia. In 17 cases the version was successful. In addition to the 3 unsuccessful attempts 3 complications appeared: twice a partial ablatio placentae and once a prolapse of the arm and umbilical cord on intact amniotic sac.

Our objective was to determine the rate of spontaneous version following preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM). Medical charts over a 4-year period were reviewed. All women with PPROM and singleton gestation between 24 and 34 weeks gestation were included; 65 patients met the inclusion criteria. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study of transverse lie in labor of patients admitted to Korle Bu Hospital between 1 January 1996 and 30 June 1998, was to identify the methods of delivery, the perinatal and maternal morbidities and mortalities, and to provide recommendations to improve the outcome.
METHODS: This was a retrospective study of 152 patients who presented at the labor wards with transverse lie. The data sources of this study were the antenatal records, the labor wards delivery record books, the postnatal records and the admission books at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Two cases of compound presentation following external version are presented. The frequent combination of the feet with the vertex following this procedure and its association with a higher fetal mortality, interference rate, and obstructed labour than the hand and vertex combination are highlighted. The aetiology, problems in diagnosis, and management are discussed. Measured to prevent and deal with this complication are suggested.

BACKGROUND: The rate of second stage caesarean section (CS) is rising with associated increases in maternal and neonatal morbidity, which may be related to impaction of the fetal head in the maternal pelvis. In the last 10 years, two devices have been developed to aid disimpaction and reduce these risks: the Fetal Pillow (FP) and the Tydeman Tube (TT). The aim of this study was to determine the distance of upward fetal head elevation achieved on a simulator for second stage CS using these two devices, compared to the established technique of per vaginum digital disimpaction by an assistant.
