Hypersensitivity relief of MIH-affected molars using two sealing techniques: a 12-week follow-up.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy in reducing hypersensitivity in molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH)-affected molars immediately and over 12 weeks after sealing using two different materials (composite and glass ionomer). Furthermore, the retention rates of both materials were analyzed. METHODS: Thirty-nine children with two MIH-affected molars showing hypersensitivity and non-occlusal breakdowns were included. Hypersensitivity was assessed with an evaporative (air) stimulus. Both teeth were sealed by two calibrated operators using a split-mouth design with eit

Measurement Properties of Visual Analogue Scale, Numeric Rating Scale, and Pain Severity Subscale of the Brief Pain Inventory in Patients With Low Back Pain: A Systematic Review.

The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), and Pain Severity subscale of the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI-PS) are the most frequently used instruments to measure pain intensity in low back pain. However, their measurement properties in this population have not been reviewed systematically. The goal of this study was to provide such systematic evidence synthesis. Six electronic sources (MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, SportDiscus, Google Scholar) were searched (July 2017). Studies assessing any measurement property in patients with nonspecific low back pain were included. Two

Principal Radiographic Characteristics for Cervical Spinal Deformity: A Health-related Quality-of-life Analysis.

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective study. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to propose radiographic characteristics of patients with cervical disability and to investigate the relevant parameters when assessing cervical alignment. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Although cervical kyphosis is traditionally recognized as presentation of cervical deformity, an increasing number of studies demonstrated that cervical kyphosis may not equal cervical deformity. Therefore, several other differentiating criteria for cervical deformity should be investigated and supported with quality of life scores. METHODS

A modification of incisionless otoplasty for correcting the prominent ear deformity.

This article describes a modification of the incisionless otoplasty. We investigated the complication rates, recurrence risks, and patient satisfaction with this modified procedure. In total, 26 patients (49 ears) complaining of prominent ear were operated on. Auriculocephalic distances were measured at three different levels, pre-operatively, at the end of the surgery, and at 4 weeks and 6 months after surgery to evaluate the efficacy of the technique. Patient satisfaction was evaluated using a visual analog scale and the global aesthetic improvement scale was applied by an independent non-pa

Multi-level cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) versus single-level CDA for the treatment of cervical disc diseases: a meta-analysis.

PURPOSE: Cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) was developed to treat cervical degenerated disc diseases with the advantages of preserving the kinematics of the functional spinal unit. However, the safety and reliability of multi-level CDA are still controverted when comparing to the single-level CDA. It has shown unclear benefits in terms of clinical results, functional recovery, heterotopic ossification, and the need for secondary surgical procedures. The purpose of this study is to estimate the effectiveness of multi-level cervical arthroplasty over single-level CDA for the treatment of cervical

In symptomatic patients on as-needed inhaled corticosteroids-formoterol, VAS asthma is associated with small airways resistance.

OBJECTIVES: Impulse oscillometry (IOS) can demonstrate small airways disease even when spirometry values are normal. However, it is unknown if the absence of symptoms excludes increased small airways resistance in asthma patients. We aimed to correlate symptoms (assessed through visual analogue scales) with measures of small airways resistance in patients with asthma and to determine whether less symptomatic patients have increased small airways resistance. METHODS: We conducted a single center, prospective cohort study. We included controlled asthma patients on as-needed inhaled corticostero

Outcomes of bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome treatment - A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the predominant compressive neuropathy among adults worldwide. However, evidence regarding treatment alternatives and their outcomes, especially with bilateral carpus involvement, is inconclusive. To analyze the clinical and surgical outcomes of bilateral CTS treatment using the visual analog scale (VAS) and Boston questionnaire, a systematic review was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. After evaluating 129 articles from different databases, nine papers with low bias risk were included in the study. These studies were assessed for methodological quality,

Pain Intensity Assessment Scales for Dermatologic Surgery Patients: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Pain assessment plays an important role in dermatologic surgery. The numeric rating scale (NRS), visual analog scale (VAS), verbal rating scale (VRS), and Faces Pain Scale (FPS) are commonly used scales for pain measurement. Conflicting evidence exists regarding the use of each. Prompt pain recognition and treatment during procedures result in higher patient satisfaction. OBJECTIVE: Determine the most applicable scale for acute pain measurement in dermatologic surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This systematic review was performed in accordance with PRISMA-Supplemental Digital Conte

A novel local adipofascial flap for the management of recalcitrant ulnar tunnel syndrome.

Ulnar tunnel syndrome is the second most common upper-limb peripheral nerve compression syndrome. Recurrence or persistence of symptoms after primary surgery is found in 9.9%-21% of cases. The main cause of failure is peri- and endo-neural fibrosis, and management is difficult and controversial. Revision of nerve neurolysis combined with freestyle adipofascial flap provides nerve decompression and coverage with vascularized tissue, which prevents scar tissue formation around the nerve and restores glide. We performed a preliminary vessel-injected cadaver study. The perforating vessels from the

Coupled blue and red light-emitting diodes therapy efficacy in patients with rosacea: two case reports.

BACKGROUND: Rosacea is a common inflammatory skin condition affecting approximately 5% of the world population. Therapeutic approaches to rosacea are focused on symptom suppression by means of anti-inflammatory agents. More recently, photodynamic therapy, especially light-emitting diodes, has been introduced as a valid alternative to conventional therapy. CASE PRESENTATION: In the present work, we reported the efficacy and safety of light-emitting diodes therapy combining blue (480 nm) and red (650 nm) light for the treatment of two patients with papulopustular rosacea: a 22-year-old Caucasia
