OBJECTIVES: The Iranian Voice Quality of Life Profile (IVQLP) is a recent culture-based developed tool for assessing the quality of life of dysphonic patients. The research questions addressed here are as follows: (1) Are the correlations between IVQLP scores and values of objective voice measures? (2) Do the correlations differ across the three different voice disorders?
METHODS: The subjects were divided into three groups: muscle tension dysphonia (MTD) (n = 62), benign midmembranous vocal fold lesions (n = 56), and unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP) (n = 32). The study sample consisted

Reliability of the GRBAS tool for perceptual evaluation of paediatric voice disorder is measured in this study of children with a history of laryngotracheal reconstruction surgery (LTR). Additionally, the relationship between parent proxy/child self-report of voice-related quality of life with clinician perceptual rating of voice quality is analysed. Eleven children with a history of LTR provided voice recordings following the stimuli set by the CAPE-V protocol. Subjective impact of voice quality on life was measured using the paediatric voice-related quality of life questionnaire. Four traine

We analyzed the functional outcome and self-evaluation of the voice of patients with T1 glottic carcinoma treated with endoscopic laser surgery and radiotherapy. We performed an objective voice evaluation, as well as a physical, emotional and functional well being assessment of 19 patients treated with laser surgery and 18 patients treated with radiotherapy. Voice quality is affected both by surgery and radiotherapy. Voice parameters only show differences in the maximum phonation time between both treatments. Results in the Voice Handicap Index show that radiotherapy has less effect on patient

BACKGROUND: Earlier researchers have developed various objective tools to document the impact of dysphonia on the patient's daily living and quality of life. Of all these available tools, Voice Related Quality of Life (V-RQOL) is one of the essential self-reported tools to document the quality of life related to voice. Thus, developing the Kannada version of V-RQOL can be a useful tool in the clinical assessment of Kannada-speaking dysphonic patients.
OBJECTIVES: To translate the V-RQOL into Kannada and to evaluate the psychometric properties and the cut off scores for the Kannada version of

INTRODUCTION: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that impacts motor and nonmotor systems, and consequently influences voice. In later stages of the disease, people with PD develop salient hypokinetic dysarthria. However, it is unclear how extensive the voice impairment is in the nonadvanced stages of PD. Therefore, the aim of the current research was to investigate the auditory-perceptual characteristics of voice in people with Parkinson's disease (PWPD) in nonadvanced stages.
METHODS: 29 PWPD and 32 healthy older controls were recruited. For each participant, a recordin

OBJECTIVES: The Acoustic Voice Quality Index (AVQI), version 03.01, is a tool for quantitative assessment of the overall severity of dysphonia. It is based on the recordings of a sustained vowel and part of a text read aloud. For the Dutch sample, 34 syllables must be read aloud to balance the duration of the two tasks. The first part of this study thus aimed to determine how many syllables of a commonly used text in the French-speaking part of Belgium should be used to achieve the same balance. The psychometric qualities of the AVQI have been confirmed by numerous publications in various lang
