Workplace drug testing in Italy - critical considerations.

Workplace drug testing (WDT) was established in Italy on 30 October 2007. Two tiers of survey are required: the first tier concerns drug testing on urine samples, the second involves both urine and hair analysis. Between July 2008 and December 2011, 10 598 workers' urine samples and 72 hair samples for opiates, cocaine, cannabinoids, amphetamines, methylenedioxyamphetamines, methadone, and buprenorphine were tested in our laboratory. Urine analyses were performed by immunological screening (EMIT); hair analysis and confirmation tests in urine were performed by gas chromatography-mass spectrome

Attitudes of teenagers towards workplace safety training.

More than 70 % of teenagers are employed before graduating high school. Every 10 min, in the United States, a young worker is injured on the job. Safety training has been suggested as a way to prevent injuries, yet little is known about the methods of safety training and the effectiveness of training that teens receive at work. This study is the first to assess the attitudes teens hold towards safety training and what they believe would help them stay safe on the job. In 2010, focus groups and interviews were conducted with 42 teens from public high schools in Jefferson County, Kentucky. Parti

How Does Employee Dependence on Intelligent Machines Influence Turnover Intention? A Serial Mediation via Workplace Objectification and Workplace Loneliness.

While integrating intelligent machines enhances workplace efficiency, it paradoxically correlates with increased employee turnover. To explain this efficiency-turnover paradox, this study draws primarily on conservation of resources theory to investigate how employees' dependence on intelligent machines triggers turnover intention. Using data from a two-wave longitudinal survey with a two-month lag among 241 manufacturing employees in China, we tested a serial mediation model. Results indicate that dependence on intelligent machines does not directly predict turnover intention. Instead, it exe

Workplace gaslighting: a construct for organizational research.

Scholarly interest in gaslighting research has surged across various domains, particularly after it was named the word of the year in 2022. Despite growing research on the topic of gaslighting, the literature on workplace gaslighting remains limited, hindering the establishment of a clear, definitive concept. We review current scholarship on gaslighting through a systematic literature review and analyze definitions across various disciplines. The thematic analysis of definitions was used to delineate the attributes of the gaslighting phenomenon into necessary and contingent. We conceptualize t

[Mental health and mental disorders in the workplace.].

The work environment can be considered one of the main determining factors that can influence the mental health of workers, especially as regards the structural and organisational conditions to which the worker is subjected. This work environment has positive effects when work provides satisfaction and contributes to personal self-fulfilment, or negative effects provoked by situations of stress, inadequate working patterns and schedules, possible situations of abuse and/or harassment, etc., which may contribute to the appearance of alterations in the mental health of the worker. Therefore, it
