Mental health disorders are treated with all the available advanced health techniques. The pioneers of Indian philosophy, sages, saints, and yogis, through their experiences and rational explanations, expressed the importance of yoga, and their treatment effects. Yoga-Nidra (YN), one of a particular forms of yoga, is described as a simple and precise way of dealing with mental disorders. The use of YN as an intervention has been reported to reduce anxiety, anger, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other different kinds of psycho-physiological abnormalities. BACKGROUND: The progressive nature of dementia leaves the person vulnerable and dependent on others for care. While persons with dementia often have better outcomes when cared for at home, it can lead to personal challenges and self-neglect of the caregiver. Mindfulness-based interventions such as yoga can lessen the potential negative effects encountered by caregivers of persons with dementia.
AIM: The aim of this review was to synthesise available empirical research related to the role of yoga on the biopsychosocial health outcomes for caregivers of persons with dementia population.

OBJECTIVES: Mind-body therapies (MBTs), including meditation, yoga, and mindfulness, create an interaction between the mind and body to enhance health. MBTs are perceived by both patients and healthcare professionals as valuable in the management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but the extent of this contribution is unclear, as are the patient subgroups who benefit most from MBTs. Therefore, this systematic literature review investigates the effects of meditation, mindfulness, and yoga in patients with RA.
METHODS: We searched four databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science (core collection, Chi

Evidence suggests that yoga is safe and effective in improving various risk factors, quality of life (QoL), and psychological burden that is related to arrhythmia. However, this is the first-ever systematic review performed to report the role of yoga in arrhythmia. We have performed a literature search using Cochrane Library, Medline/PubMed, Web of Science Core Collection, and IndMED electronic databases up to 3, January 2018. Of 240 articles, 6 potentially eligible articles were identified and included in the review. Results showed that yoga could be considered an efficient adjuvant in reduci

The negative impacts of stress on antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence and the many stressors faced by people returning from incarceration support the need for stress reduction interventions for this population. We hypothesized that 37 returning citizens living with HIV and substance use problems randomized to a 12-session weekly yoga intervention would experience improved ART adherence, lower viral loads, and lower heart rate and blood pressure as compared to 36 people randomized to treatment as usual (TAU). We found that ART adherence increased for yoga participants and decreased for TAU p

Many people with depression or anxiety turn to nonpharmacologic and nonconventional interventions, including exercise, yoga, meditation, tai chi, or qi gong. Meta-analyses and systematic reviews have shown that these interventions can improve symptoms of depression and anxiety disorders. As an adjunctive treatment, exercise seems most helpful for treatment-resistant depression, unipolar depression, and posttraumatic stress disorder. Yoga as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy shows positive effects, particularly for depression. As an adjunctive therapy, it facilitates treatment of anxiety disord

From the last few decades, there are increasing incidences of disorders like premature aging, cardiovascular disease, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, and Alzheimer's disease In addition to medication, researchers have found that yoga, a mind-body therapy, can be used as an alternative medicine. Yoga combines specific physical postures, breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation that improve mental and physical health of the body. The purpose of this review is to collate the research evidences claiming health benefits of performing traditional yogic practices. What are the biological and

The aim of this review was to evaluate the effect of pranayama (Yoga's breathing exercises) on BP and its applicability in the treatment of hypertension. Thirteen trials, assessing acute (eight studies) and chronic (five studies) BP response to pranayama were included. Significant BP reductions after pranayama were found in both acute (2-10 mmHg mean SBP reduction, N = 5 studies; 1 mmHg mean DBP reduction, N = 1 study) and chronic studies (4-21 mmHg mean SBP reduction, N = 3 studies; 4-7 mmHg mean DBP reduction, N = 2 studies). The pranayama's effect on BP were not robust against selection bia

This study analysed the behaviour of the geometric curvature of the spine during sirshasana. The position of dorsal retroreflective markers was computed via stereophotogrammetric analysis in six males and five females (29.4 ± 8.8 years, 63.0 ± 11.4 kg, 1.66 ± 0.08 m [average ± standard deviation]). The spinal points were projected onto the sagittal and frontal planes of the trunk, a polynomial was fitted to the data and the two-dimensional geometric curvature was quantified. The inferior lumbar lordosis decreased compared to the orthostatic position and gait, which may favour the posterior pro

While yoga seems to be effective in a number of neuropsychiatric disorders, the evidence of efficacy in multiple sclerosis remains unclear. The aim of this review was to systematically assess and meta-analyze the available data on efficacy and safety of yoga in patients with multiple sclerosis. Medline/PubMed, Scopus, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PsycINFO, CAM-Quest, CAMbase, and IndMED were searched through March 2014. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of yoga for patients with multiple sclerosis were included if they assessed health-related quality of life, fatigue,

BACKGROUND: Stress and back pain are two key factors leading to sickness absence at work. Recent research indicates that yoga can be effective for reducing perceived stress, alleviating back pain, and improving psychological well-being.
AIMS: To determine the effectiveness of a yoga-based intervention for reducing perceived stress and back pain at work.
METHODS: Participants were recruited from a British local government authority and randomized into a yoga group who received one 50 min Dru Yoga session each week for 8 weeks and a 20 min DVD for home practice and a control group who received

This paper explores the application of modified yoga techniques, as an adjunct to voice therapy, by a speech pathologist who is also a yoga teacher. Yoga practices, with effects that may be short-term, are not considered a substitute for comprehensive and integrated somatic retraining systems (such as the Alexander Technique or Feldenkrais ATM). However, when yoga is conducted emphasizing kinaesthetic and proprioceptive awareness, the client may achieve an 'awareness state' that facilitates the learning of vocal remediation techniques (for example, by more easily 'tuning in' to the subtle sens

This article explores the uses of yoga as an experiential adjunct to other forms of therapy in the treatment of eating disorders in residential and outpatient settings. Supported by other treatment modalities, yoga can be an effective method for increasing self-awareness, reflection and the ability to self-soothe. Like other interventions, yoga has potential misuses. These misuses are uncovered with suggestions made as to how therapists can support the practice of yoga in residential and outpatient settings.

BACKGROUND: Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is a persistent pain condition affecting the lower back, lumbosacral region, and sacroiliac area for over three months. Discogenic pain closely resembles lumbosacral radicular pain, often presenting with radiating pain in lumbar or sacral dermatomes, with or without neurological deficits. Yoga, a mind-body practice, is increasingly explored as a therapeutic approach for non-specific low back pain.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective study included 35 patients meeting the inclusion criteria, who underwent yoga therapy between August 2022 and July 2024.

In late 2021, the United States had a total of 1.2 million individuals confined in state and federal prisons, with approximately 1.1 million of these people being men. Although existing research provides evidence that engaging in yoga programs within prison settings can enhance the well-being of incarcerated individuals, with several studies supporting this claim, knowledge regarding the specific effects of participating in a yoga teacher training program during confinement is still lacking. The purpose of the present investigation was to evaluate the effect of completing a prison-based 200-ho
