Universal leucodepletion is being introduced in the U.K. to reduce a theoretical risk of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) transmission. If CJD infectivity is associated with leucocytes, any cell fragmentation associated with filtration could reduce the potential benefit.
