The In Vitro α-Glucosidase Inhibition Activity of Various Solvent Fractions of Tamarix dioica and 1H-NMR Based Metabolite Identification and Molecular Docking Analysis.

The Tamarix dioica (T. dioica) is widely used medicinal plant to cure many chronic ailments. T. dioica is being used to manage diabetes mellitus in traditional medicinal system; however, very little scientific evidence is available on this plant in this context. The current study involves the fractionation of crude methanolic extract of T. dioica using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, chloroform, and n-butanol. The screening for antioxidant activity using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay was carried out. The in vitro antidiabetic potential was assessed by measuring α-glucosidase inhibition.

Characterisation, release and migration of phenolic compounds from resoles used in polyester-phenol coatings intended for food contact materials.

Resoles are multifarious pre-polymeric resins produced by the condensation of basic chemicals phenols, formaldehyde and optionally aliphatic alcohols like butanol. They are widely used as cross-linkers to form resistant internal coatings on metal surfaces of cans, containers or closures. Although the application of resoles is common in food contact, usually little is known about their exact composition, the toxicological hazards of their individual constituents and the migration of phenolic compounds, e.g., of the potentially endocrine-disrupting chemical bisphenol F. Our study fills major gap

Comparison of ambient solvent extraction methods for the analysis of fatty acids in non-starch lipids of flour and starch.

BACKGROUND: Lipids are minor components of flours, but are major determinants of baking properties and end-product quality. To the best of our knowledge, there is no single solvent system currently known that efficiently extracts all non-starch lipids from all flours without the risk of chemical, mechanical or thermal damage. This paper compares nine ambient solvent systems (monophasic and biphasic) with varying polarities: Bligh and Dyer (BD); modified Bligh and Dyer using HCl (BDHCL); modified BD using NaCl (BDNaCl); methanol-chloroform-hexane (3:2:1, v/v); Hara and Radin (hexane-isopropanol

Comparative study of the adsorption performance of a multi-sorbent bed (Carbotrap, Carbopack X, Carboxen 569) and a Tenax TA adsorbent tube for the analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

A comparison between two types of adsorbent tubes, the commonly used Tenax TA and a multi-sorbent bed (Carbotrap, Carbopack X, Carboxen 569) tube developed in our laboratory, has been done to evaluate their usefulness in the analysis of VOCs in ambient air. Duplicate indoor and outdoor samples of Tenax TA and multi-sorbent tubes of 10, 20, 40, 60 and 90l were taken in Barcelona city (Spain) on July and October of 2009. Breakthrough values (defined as %VOCs found in the back tube) were determined for all sampling volumes connecting two sampling tubes in series. The analysis was performed by aut

Separation of hydrophobic polymer additives by microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography.

Microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography (MEEKC) has been applied to the separation of some phenolic antioxidants [Irganox 1024, Irganox 1035, Irganox 1076, Irganox 1010, Irganox 1330, Irgafos 138, Irganox 168 and 2,6-di-tert.-butyl-4-methylphenol (BHT)]. Due to the extremely hydrophobic nature of these analytes, they could not be separated using standard MEEKC conditions and two alternative approaches were investigated. Using an acidic buffer (phosphate, pH 2.5) to effectively suppress the electroosmotic flow, the addition of 2-propanol to the aqueous phase of the microemulsion buffer to i

Structure, Dynamics, and Interfacial Behavior in Ionic Liquid-Alcohol Binary Mixtures: A Molecular Dynamics Simulation Study.

In this study, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were conducted to elucidate the influence of cation type, anion type, and alcohol type on the bulk and interfacial properties of binary mixtures of ionic liquids (ILs) and alcohols. Simulations were performed at different mole fractions of ILs in the presence of methanol (MeOH) and butanol (BuOH). Four ILs were considered, comprising the cations 1,3-dimethylimidazolium ([MMIM]) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium ([BMIM]) paired with the anions methyl sulfate ([MeSO4]) and octyl sulfate ([OcSO4]). The systems were examined in both the bulk phase a

Preanalytical factors influencing the results of ethanol analysis in postmortem specimens.

Excessive drinking and drunkenness are underlying factors in many fatal accidents, which make the quantitative determination of ethanol in postmortem (PM) specimens an essential part of all unnatural death investigations. The same analytical methods are used to determine ethanol in blood taken from living and deceased persons although the interpretation of the results is more complicated in medical examiner cases owing to various preanalytical factors. The biggest problem is that under anaerobic conditions ethanol can be produced naturally in decomposed bodies by microbial activity and ferment
