Outcomes of pediatric accommodative esotropia with botulinum toxin A treatment in Thailand.

Accommodative esotropia is a condition commonly encountered by pediatric ophthalmologists. Patient with accommodative esotropia wear hyperopic glasses to decrease accommodation which occasionally provide them with good vision without glasses. Children are known to have limited compliance with glasses and patching. Their limited cooperation can also lead to variability in angle measurement across visits and defer surgery. To cope with these challenges, our team offered botulinum toxin injection to the medial rectus as an optional treatment while waiting for compliance and deferring the surgery.

False amblyopia prediction in strabismic patients by fixation preference testing correlates with contralateral ocular dominance.

BACKGROUND: Binocular fixation preference testing is commonly used to predict strabismic amblyopia in preverbal children. However, false positives can occur and can lead to unnecessary patching treatment. We explored potential causes for this phenomenon. METHODS: In this prospective cohort study (2013-2014) of consecutive verbal strabismic patients without incomitance or decreased vision other than strabismic amblyopia, binocular fixation preference testing was graded from 1 (strong preference) to 4 (free alteration), with grade 1 or 2 considered predictive of amblyopia and the examiner maske

Differentiating bilateral superior oblique paresis from sensory extorsion.

PURPOSE: To determine whether patients historically diagnosed with bilateral superior oblique paresis (BSOP) categorized into (1) immediate-onset and (2) gradual-onset torsional diplopia groups are also distinguishable on the basis of patterns of subjective misalignment in various directions of gaze, consistent with the gradual-onset group being caused by sensory extorsion rather than by BSOP. METHODS: The medical records of all patients diagnosed with BSOP, V-pattern esotropia, or V-pattern exotropia between 1978 and 2009 were retrospectively reviewed. Those patients with torsional diplopia
