Spontaneous full thickness macular hole development and closure in a patient with nucleus dislocation due to hypermature cataract: a case report.

Spontaneous posterior capsule rupture with lens-nucleus dislocation is a very rare entity, as is the development and spontaneous closure of a full thickness macular hole (FTMH) after vitrectomy. The occurrence of these two entities in one eye has not been previously described. A 79-year-old woman was referred because of the right eye intermittent pain and progressive visual loss. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) with correction for aphakia was 20/20. Intraocular pressure was normal with therapy. The cornea, anterior chamber, and vitreous were clear. Gonioscopy was normal. The capsular bag w

Incidence and distribution of paravascular lamellar holes and their relationship with macular retinoschisis in highly myopic eyes using spectral-domain oct.

The purpose of the study is to determine the incidence and distribution of paravascular lamellar holes (PLH) around retinal vessels in highly myopic eyes and their relationship with macular retinoschisis (MR). We examined 306 eyes of 178 patients with high myopia, performing multiple scans of the posterior pole within the retinal vascular arcades using spectral-domain OCT. Type of staphyloma was determined. PLH were divided into three groups: holes only (group 1), holes extending below vessels (group 2), and holes in an area of paravascular retinoschisis (group 3). OCT showed that 96/306 eyes

Gas versus GaslEss surgery for full thickness Macular hole (GEM): study protocol for a randomised, assessor-masked, surgical feasibility study.

INTRODUCTION: Pars plana vitrectomy with intravitreal gas tamponade has been the standard treatment for full-thickness macular holes (FTMHs) for the last 30 years. Gas tamponade has multiple drawbacks: it results in very poor vision for several weeks, limiting patients' ability to drive and work; many undertake intensive face-down posturing for about a week after surgery, to float the gas bubble onto the macula; gas is cataractogenic and prevents adequate fundus examination; it can elevate intraocular pressure, mandating regular hospital review; patients cannot fly and the fluorocarbon tampona

Intraoperative and fluorescein angiographic findings of a secondary macular hole associated with age-related macular degeneration treated by pars plana vitrectomy.

BACKGROUND: Macular hole results from a tractional force at the vitreo-retinal interface which is developed by modification and subsequent degeneration of the posterior precortical vitreous and the internal limiting membrane (ILM). Meanwhile, the wet type of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is caused by the submacular formation of choroidal neovascularization (CNV). Although exudative changes derived from CNV may cause epiretinal membrane (ERM) formation, which can also cause tractional force at the vitreo-retinal interface, there have been few reports of AMD-associated macular hole deve
