Percutaneous nephroscopy combined with ultrasound-guided negative-pressure suction for the treatment of perirenal hematoma.

Percutaneous renal puncture drainage is needed in patients with perirenal hematoma (PRH, renal around hematoma) with poor conservative treatment. Early and thorough removal of hematoma is closely related to the recovery of patients, but percutaneous renal drainage is not effective in some patients. The clinical data of 5 patients with PRH treated in the first affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from June 2020 to June 2024 were analyzed retrospectively. There were 4 males and 1 female, with an average age of 58 (43-79) years. The hematoma was located on the left in 2 cases and o

A simulated model for fluid and tissue heating during pediatric laser lithotripsy.

BACKGROUND: Laser lithotripsy (LL) is a common modality for treatment of children and adolescents with nephrolithiasis. Recent introduction of higher-powered lasers may result in more efficacious "dusting" of urinary calculi. However, in vivo animal studies and computational simulations have demonstrated rapid and sustained rise of fluid temperatures with LL, possibly resulting in irreversible tissue damage. How fluid and tissue heating during LL vary with pediatric urinary tract development, however, is unknown. We hypothesize that kidneys of younger children will be more susceptible to chang

Rethinking of ureteral stent removal using an extraction string; what patients feel and what is patients' preference? : a randomized controlled study.

BACKGROUND: Ureteral stent removal using an extraction string is advantageous because it can obviate an invasive cystoscopy, but there is a paucity of data on how patients feel about it, and how bothersome or beneficial it is. We performed this study to evaluate patients' preference for stent removal using an extraction string and which parameters could affect it. METHODS: In total, 114 consecutive patients undergoing ureteral stent insertion after ureteroscopic stone removal (URS) for unilateral recurrent ureter stones were enrolled. Patients were randomized to a string group or a no string

Stone displacement with combined Sotn ureteroscopy and flexible ureteroscopy for lower calyx stones ⩽20 mm: a retrospective comparative study.

BACKGROUND: The lower calyx is the most common site for kidney stones. While minimally invasive, flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy often yields suboptimal stone-free rates (SFR) for lower calyx stones due to anatomical constraints and limited endoscope deflection. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a novel technique that combines Sotn ureteroscopy (Sotn-URS) with flexible ureteroscopy (fURS), involving stone displacement before lithotripsy, for managing lower calyx stones ⩽20 mm. DESIGN: A retrospective comparative study complemented by in vitro simulation experiments. METH
