Immediate loading in the fully edentulous maxilla without bone grafting: the V-II-V technique.

AIM: The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate a new surgical approach for the immediate rehabilitation of fully edentulous maxilla without any type of bone grafting. METHODS: The technique named ''V-II-V'' consists of an immediately loaded full-arch bridge supported by six implants. Two distal implants engage the posterior wall of the maxillary sinus, being tilted 30-45 degrees relative to the occlusal plane. Two other tilted implants engage the anterior wall of the sinus, and finally two axial implants are inserted in the anterior maxilla. An acrylic provisional restoration is deliv

Clinical report with up to 4 years of follow-up on a cervically modified stepped screw-type implant.

PURPOSE: In 1998, a modification of the macrostructure of the Frialit-2 implant in the cervical region was introduced to stabilize peri-implant bone. Limited data are available on the clinical effect of this modification. Therefore, the soft-tissue situation, marginal bone loss, and implant failure rate were analyzed after 4 years of clinical experience with the modified Frialit-2 Synchro implant. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From 1998 to 2001, 190 cervically modified implants were placed and documented prospectively in 58 patients. Of these implants, 147 were placed in original jaw bone, 22 in are

A prevalence study of oral mucosal lesions in an adult Swedish population.

The prevalence of oral mucosal lesions in Sweden is virtually unknown. Available prevalence figures concern but a few types of lesions and relate to highly selected, special populations. Investigations on general populations are sparse also in other countries. The aim of the present study was to survey the occurrence of oral mucosal lesions in a relatively large general population in Sweden. The study was performed in collaboration with a health screening organization in the middle of Sweden. The populations of two municipalities in the County of Uppsala were investigated. A mobile health scre

Age-Specific Changes in Chewing Discomfort During the Expansion of National Health Insurance Coverage for Dental Implants: A Controlled Interrupted Time Series Analysis in South Korea, 2010-2024.

BACKGROUND: Chewing discomfort related to tooth loss is a common functional problem among older adults, and high out-of-pocket costs for prosthodontic rehabilitation may limit access to treatment. OBJECTIVES: To assess whether age-specific trends in self-reported chewing discomfort changed around South Korea's stepwise expansion of National Health Insurance coverage for dental implants relative to a younger comparison group. METHODS: This study used nationally representative repeated cross-sectional data from the Korea Community Health Survey (2010-2024). A controlled interrupted time series

Water aging stability and antibacterial efficacy of polymethyl methacrylate resin incorporating ε-poly-L-lysine and 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) has been commonly used for dental appliances. However, it lacks inherent antibacterial properties, thus increasing the risk of oral diseases such as gingival inflammation and denture stomatitis. Given that PMMA-based appliances should offer prolonged intraoral service, the functionalization of PMMA with antibacterial activity and mechanical integrity after water aging is crucial to improve its clinical applicability. PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the mechanical characteristics, protein resistance, and antibacte

Multimorbidity and Essential Dental Care Needs: Results From the 2003 and 2016-2017 Chilean National Health Survey.

OBJECTIVES: Oral diseases (ODs) and multimorbidity (MM) are major global public health challenges that share common risk factors. Chile has implemented the 'Multimorbidity patient-centred care model' (MPCM) to address this; however, improving oral healthcare for adults remains an unresolved challenge. This study aimed to compare the essential dental care need (EDCN) among Chilean adults with different levels of MM between ENS 2003 and 2016-17 National Health Surveys (ENS). METHODS: A serial cross-sectional study was conducted using secondary data from the ENS 2003 and ENS 2016-2017. Two MM de

Reliability of a face scanner in measuring the vertical dimension of occlusion.

OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the reliability of a face scanner in measuring the vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO). METHODS: Fully dentate volunteers (n = 20; mean-age = 30.0 ± 10.7 years) were recruited. Clinical facial measurements were obtained using a digital caliper and a face scanner (Obiscanner, Fifthingenium, Italy). The scans were imported into a mesh-processing software, and the distances were measured digitally. Measurements were obtained for each participant with the jaws positioned in maximal intercuspation (MI) and with increased vertical distances of 2, 4, and 6 mm. Verti

Three-year analysis of tapered screw vent implants placed into maxillary sinuses grafted with mineralized bone allograft.

With an increase in the number of patients presenting for dental implant treatment, it is becoming more common for clinicians to encounter inadequate bone volume. Several surgical techniques have been advocated for placing dental implants in the posterior maxilla, including the lateral window sinus elevation technique. This article reports the results of implants placed into maxillary sinuses grafted with particulate mineralized cancellous bone allograft alone or in combination with resorbable hydroxyapatite over a 3-year period. A total of 56 sinuses were grafted, and 136 dental implants were

Assessment of prosthetic restorations on bone-lock implants in patients after oral tumor resection.

The feasibility of implant treatment in patients after oral ablative tumor surgery has not yet been investigated with consideration of the requisite high periodontal standards. A report on this topic has to deal not only with implant survival but also with implant health, bone response, soft tissue health, failure pattern, time of failure, and ease of restoration. For the assessment of an implant system, an overview must be accomplished that takes into account the different restorations used and their interaction with the implant system that was used. This study presents the Bone-Lock implant

The ArchBridge™ Digitally Integrated Workflow: A Fully Digital, Model-Free Workflow for Implant-Supported Overdenture Rehabilitation.

Implant-supported overdentures provide predictable improvements in retention, stability, function, and patient satisfaction compared with conventional complete dentures. However, conventional prosthetic workflows may require multiple impressions, casts, jaw relation records, and laboratory procedures. Although digital dentistry has simplified many restorative procedures, complete-arch implant scanning remains challenging because edentulous arches provide limited stable landmarks for image stitching. This article describes the clinical application of the ArchBridge™ digitally integrated workflo
