Regenerative treatment of serious periodontosis with grafting of cancellous iliac bone and gingival flaps and replanting of patients' teeth.

The purpose of this study was to assess the ability of serious periodontosis patients to regain satisfactory biting function, using the patients' own teeth, by regeneration of the alveolar bone. Twelve serious periodontosis patients whose alveolar bone was markedly absorbed and whose teeth were quite unstable were treated with replanting of their teeth and grafting of cancellous iliac bone and gingival flaps by the clinical team, which consisted of plastic surgeons and dentists. No patients developed postoperative complications (e.g., infections), and grafted iliac bone took in all patients. T

Retrospective review of 78 rehabilitated head and neck postoncological patients: a new classification method.

BACKGROUND: Numerous studies have been published about the prosthetic rehabilitation of the postoncological maxillo-facial patient, but the guidelines that emerge lack a correlation between the anatomical classification of the treated site, which generally is preparatory upon surgery, and the type of prosthetic rehabilitation appropriate to the new anatomical and functional condition. With this correlation, it would be possible to obtain a multidisciplinary and predictable therapeutic process, able to identify from the beginning the best type of prosthetic rehabilitation. METHODS: The authors

Dental implants for immediate fixed restoration of partially edentulous patients: a 1-year prospective pilot clinical trial in periodontally susceptible patients.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the survival of dental implants in periodontally susceptible patients using immediate loading/restoration (ILR) protocols and the factors that modulate this response. METHODS: Systemically healthy patients who were treated previously for chronic periodontitis and who required implant therapy were recruited. Following data collection, "surgical templates" and provisional fixed restorations were fabricated. Transgingival implants were inserted, and surgical measurements were performed. After abutment connection, the crown/bridge was relined and

Immediate occlusal loading of Brånemark TiUnite implants placed predominantly in soft bone: 1-year results of a prospective clinical study.

BACKGROUND: The original Brånemark protocol for dental implant treatment was based on submerged healing prior to loading. However, immediate loading has been reported possible with high success rates for various indications, provided that good bone quality and quantity are present. In many of these studies, machined-surface implants have been used. Recently, a new surface texture has been developed, based on an oxidation processing, that aims to enhance the early bone response (Brånemark System Mk IV TiUnite , Nobel Biocare AB, Gothenburg, Sweden). It has been documented that this surface text

Associations of comprehensive oral health with body composition, physical performance, and sarcopenia among middle-aged and older adults in rural western China: potential mediating pathways.

BACKGROUND: Sarcopenia is a key contributor to functional decline in aging populations, yet the role of oral health in its development remains unclear. Understanding this relationship and its underlying pathways is critical for designing effective interventions to promote healthy aging. METHODS: We conducted the first cross-sectional study among middle-aged and older adults (aged 44–90 years) from December 2024 to January 2025 in economically disadvantaged villages of western China. A convenience sample was recruited via local health centers. Comprehensive oral health and sarcopenia risk were

Orthodontic treatment in elderly patients.

OBJECTIVE: In recent years there has been a significant increase in the number of elderly patients requesting orthodontist consultations. Masticatory performance is an important factor influencing the quality of life in independent healthy elderly subjects and only the restoration of skeletal and dental relationships in the three planes of space can assure oral health and functions with the consequential nutritional balance of the whole organism. The rehabilitation treatment in elderly subjects must comprehend orthodontic and prosthetic needs. This kind of treatment has two main goals: firstly

Composite morphology of the bone and associated support-tissue interfaces to osseointegrated dental implants: TEM and HVEM analyses.

Correlated transmission electron and high-voltage electron microscopic analyses examined the undecalcified bone and associated support tissues of 60 endosseous titanium blade and titanium and ceramic root-form implants in dogs. The implants supported fixed partial dentures for up to 2 years. Data obtained from this investigation suggest that a range of tissues, both mineralized and unmineralized, support osseointegrated dental implants. This study examined the tissues apposing not just isolated aspects of the implant surface, but the entire length of the implant, and found that mineralized and

Comparative Evaluation of Functional and Quality of Life Outcomes in Conventional and Soft-Liner Relined Obturators for Patients With Maxillofacial Defects.

Background and objective Oral cancer is the sixth most common cancer worldwide. The prevalence of mucormycosis, a progressive fungal infection affecting the nasal and paranasal sinuses, is also on the rise, especially in patients after COVID-19 treatment. Surgical resection frequently employed in these cases results in maxillary defects which lead to functional and aesthetic impairments. Obturator prostheses are used for the rehabilitation of these maxillofacial defects. However, the choice of material and design can have an impact on patient outcomes. The present study aims to compare the max

Clinical evaluation of marginal bone level change of multiple adjacent implants restored with splinted and nonsplinted restorations: a 5-year prospective study.

PURPOSE: The success of single-tooth implant restorations has resulted in an increased use of nonsplinted implants to replace adjacent missing teeth; however, this may result in excessive force transmission to the implant and bone, causing bone loss. The purpose of this prospective study was to compare the marginal bone level change of adjacent splinted implants and of nonsplinted implants functionally loaded with cemented restorations up to 5 years in maxillae. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Between 2002 and 2004, all patients who received three consecutive adjacent implants in a private office and a
