Kissing molars: report of three cases and new prospective on aetiopathogenetic theories.

Kissing molars (KMs) is an extremely rare condition of impacted third molars, pointed in the opposite direction in a single follicular space; it consists exactly in a full impacted of permanent molars which occurs only in the lower jaw. Actually, about less than thirty cases have been reported in scientific literatures. The aetiology and pathogenesis of this pathological double dental inclusion remain unknown; above all events that lead two molars to appear, as KMs remain mysterious. The association to metabolic connective diseases such as mucopolysaccharidosis was emphasized. KMs considered a

Class I malocclusion treatment: influence of a missing mandibular incisor on anterior guidance.

This case report describes the orthodontic treatment of a patient with a deep-overbite Angle Class I malocclusion, agenesis of a mandibular central incisor, and 2 supernumerary teeth, which caused impaction of the mandibular first premolars. The 15-year-old patient also had a convex profile, maxillary dentoalveolar protrusion, and deficiency of space for the correct alignment of teeth. Therefore, treatment consisted of fixed appliance therapy, cervical headgear, extraction of the supernumeraries and the mandibular and maxillary first premolars, and mesiodistal reduction of the maxillary inciso

Early intervention to remove mesiodens and avoid orthodontic therapy.

Recognition of dental anomalies is essential in determining appropriate treatment for each patient. Diagnosis and assessment of mesiodens are critical in avoiding complications such as blocking the eruption of the maxillary central incisors, cyst formation, and dilaceration of the permanent incisors. Collecting data for diagnostic criteria, utilizing diagnostic radiographs, and determining when to refer to a specialist are important steps in the treatment of mesiodens. Early diagnosis and timely intervention could reduce or eliminate the need for orthodontic treatment and prevent serious compl

Oblique facial cleft, cleft palate, and supernumerary teeth secondary to amniotic bands.

A case of oblique facial cleft with supernumerary deciduous molars, probably caused by amniotic bands is reported. Besides facial cleft, and cleft palate and lip, there are sulci on the left side of the face and on the left posterior alveolar ridge. The sulci may be impressions of amniotic bands at a late gestational age and supernumerary teeth may also be related to these amniotic bands.

Craniofacial and dental features of Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome patients with PITX2 mutations.

We aimed to characterize the genetic basis and craniofacial and dental features of Finnish patients with Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome (ARS). Mutational analyses of seven patients in five families were performed by sequencing or comparative genomic hybridization. Phenotypic analysis was based on both clinical and radiographic examinations, as well as on medical data. Lateral cephalometric radiographs of five patients were analysed using Viewbox 3.1-Cephalometric Software. The cephalometric values were compared to Finnish population-standard values of the same age and gender. Two frameshift mutation
