How is everyone doing? Baseline psychological distress and adaptive functioning among transgender, nonbinary, and cis youth presenting for intensive outpatient psychiatric services.

Psychological and psychosocial functioning of binary transgender and nonbinary youth has been understudied in settings treating individuals at risk for psychiatric hospitalization. Further, little is currently known about potential differences in baseline levels of psychiatric distress and adaptive functioning across gender-diverse youth and their psychiatrically distressed cisgender counterparts. Key differences may elucidate avenues for adapted treatment and protocols among youth presenting for psychiatric care. Archival data of 426 youth (Mage = 14.94, SD = 1.5 years) referred to a psychiat

The relationship between uncertainty in illness and caregiving capacity in primary caregivers of patients with first-time ischemic stroke: the roles of psychological adaptation and perceived social support.

BACKGROUND: In China, family members typically assume primary caregiving responsibilities for stroke patients after treatment. However, the onset of a first ischemic stroke often occurs abruptly, and caregivers, typically spouses, adult children, or other non-professionals, may assume this responsibility without psychological preparation or caregiving experience. This situation may be associated with higher uncertainty in illness. In turn, caregiving confidence may be reduced, potentially compromising caregiving capacity. Therefore, factors associated with primary caregivers' caregiving capaci

Influence of psychosocial adaptation on existential distress among young breast cancer survivors in the rehabilitation period: An analysis of the chain mediating effects of social support and psychological resilience.

This study investigated the influence of psychosocial adaptation on existential distress among young breast cancer survivors during the rehabilitation period, with a focus on the chain-mediating roles of social support and psychological resilience. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 390 young Chinese breast cancer survivors (aged 18-49 years, within 5 years post-treatment) recruited from tertiary hospitals. Participants completed standardized measures assessing psychosocial adaptation (PAIS-SR), social support (PSSS), psychological resilience (CD-RISC10), and existential distress (DS-

Co-residence with both parents, attitudes toward parents, and psychological difficulties among Chinese secondary school students: indirect associations through social adaptability.

BACKGROUND: This cross-sectional study examined whether co-residence status and students' attitudes toward parents were associated with psychological difficulties directly and indirectly through social adaptability. METHOD: A regional census cluster survey distributed questionnaires to 39,739 students in 20 secondary schools in one district of Chongqing, China. The analytic sample comprised 34,097 valid responses (85.80%). Psychological difficulties were represented by continuous scores from 35 Mental Health Test items covering academic anxiety, self-blame, and impulsivity. Two separate obser

Blueprint 2: A self-directed mobile adaptive coping skills intervention to improve psychological distress symptoms among cardiorespiratory failure survivors study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Persistent psychological distress including symptoms of depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) occur in as many as 70% of intensive care unit (ICU) survivors. However, few therapies exist that target this population's unique symptoms and needs. To address this, we developed the Blueprint adaptive coping skills mobile app, which was found to be feasible and reduce psychological distress symptoms in a recent single-center pilot randomized control trial (RCT). OBJECTIVE: To describe the methods of the Blueprint 2 multi-center RCT (clinicaltrials.gov ID NCT065

We translated, adapted and tested the psychometric properties of questionnaires measuring HIV stigma, HIV disclosure cognitions and affect, antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence, social support, personal values, and hope, using a multi-step process. This included: translation, back-translation, expert review, cognitive interviewing, readability and assessmen

Systematic adolescent-centered supportive care program is associated with improved psychological status, treatment adherence, and social adaptation in adolescents with thyroid cancer undergoing radioiodine-131 therapy: a retrospective before-after cohort study with historical controls.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) undergoing radioiodine-131 (131I) therapy endure unique developmental and psychosocial challenges, yet evidence for adolescent-tailored supportive interventions remains scarce. This retrospective before-after cohort program is associated with improvements in psychological distress, treatment adherence, and social reintegration. METHODS: We enrolled 220 eligible patients aged 13-25 years with DTC receiving131I therapy (2016-2024). The control group (n=85) received routine care, while the observation group

Quality of life in chronic dialysis patients. Factors unrelated to dialysis modality.

The quality of life (medical, psychological, and social adaptation) of 66 chronic dialysis patients was studied cross-sectionally. The participants had similar levels of medical, psychological, and social adaptation to those found in previous studies of chronic dialysis patients. Medical, psychological, and social adaptation are independent dimensions that are only weakly intercorrelated. When categorized by specific individual or treatment characteristics, men and those over age 51 had poorer medical and psychological adaptation than did women and younger dialysis patients. Duration of dialys

The influence of athletic identity, coach-athlete relationship quality, and peer climate on emotional resilience in injury-prone sports.

INTRODUCTION: Athletes competing in injury-prone sports are routinely exposed to physical risk and psychological strain, making psychological adaptation a critical yet underexplored issue in sport psychology. Drawing on identity-based perspectives, conservation of resources theory, and self-determination theory, this study examined whether athletic identity influences psychological adaptation through emotional resilience and whether coach-athlete relationship quality and peer climate strengthen this process. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 482 athletes participating in i

Urban heat stress and adolescent health: impacts and adaptation strategies in Indonesia.

Climate change adversely affects adolescent health through extreme outdoor heat, causing dehydration, cognitive impairment, chronic health risks, and potentially fatal heat stroke. Adolescents' high levels of physical activity and limited awareness about the impacts of extreme outdoor heat exacerbate these risks, highlighting the need for effective adaptation strategies. However, comprehensive studies on the physical and mental effects of heat exposure, adaptation practices adopted by adolescents, psychological determinants, microclimatic perceptions, and ambient-natural conditions remain limi
